Well, the only reason I'm going into medicine is because I want to be a psychaitrist, not a doctor. So hopefully, I won't have to deal with the needles.
I'm a big baby too. My friend took a video of my screaming and screeching and freaking the new volunteers out because the old ones were used to it. lol.

I wish I could give blood but I have anemia so my iron levels are always low. :(. But I am not afraid of needles thanks goodness. Esme I do give you a thumbs up for going for it anyway. I also thought about being a psychiatrist but stayed with my love of animals and am going the veterinarian route. Also A whole bunch of thumbs up for SBG people on the internet can get so out of hand sometimes.

message 1103: by Justin (new)

Justin Valentino (JustinV) | 8 comments You gave blood, Esme!? Wish I was there. Can you send me the video that I know somebody took? I need a good laugh.
Esme has an irrational fear of needles, but the oh-so-noble child she is, she glomps along to the donation table and flashes everyone a too-white smile as she says: if I can do it, you can too! Go donate some blood, and save a life.
And then her wannabes all sign up. But the actual day of the pricking, she pretends to be sick, starts to have a panic attack and shaking about two hours before, and then screams like a mofo when they tell her to squeeze the beanie ball. And kicks several people in the groin with her six inch stilettos.
But I digress. Esme, don't give blood anymore.

Has anyone done plasma? A lot of people from school I know do it twice a week for extra $. It takes about an hour and they work on their homework. That would be great time for reading :) but I still don't think I could do it.

message 1105: by [deleted user] (new)

Go away Justin.

And I know some girls who give plasma on a regular basis. It's not bad, but it can have pretty dangerous side effects if you don't take care of yourself. Like, you can't just skip meals on whim, or get hammered one night. And I don't think it's a good idea on a long-term basis, because don't you need more of your plasma as you get older?

Today was also Star Wars Day!

Kelly | 308 comments speaking of Star Wars, I just saw this video, and thought it was pretty funny

"Little Jedi girl joins the Dark side at Disneyland."

Most of you know I work at a CPA firm. This is so random (and I find it funny).

The Mrs. Utah pageant is being held in Hurricane this Saturday. I always noticed on Miss America and such that the voting was tallied by a CPA office. Our office was chosen to tally the scores for this. :)

okay another random thing.

Yesterday was preschool graduation for my little niece and highschool graduation for my brother-in-laws youngest sister. The faculty speaker at the highschool one was amazing. I love my high school English teacher but I think this one would have given her a run for her money.

message 1112: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments So I caught my usual post-show cold. (Strenuous daily rehearsals for 7+ weeks straight that sometimes ran until past midnight when I had to be up again at 5:00am for work takes its toll...) Plus several of my castmates were sick, so it was just inevitable.

Anyway, I need to get over this cold quickly. Does anyone have tips? Types of food I can eat, drink, etc?

message 1113: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Though it's not really evidence-based, I always think drinking lots of tea helps. And maybe fruit? So as to get your vitamin C kick. Hope you feel better soon!

message 1114: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I agree with Daisy, keep hydrated (good hydration, not red bulls or soda) and take your vitamins. There is a supplement you can find at most health food stores that is colostrum in tablet form. It is supposed to help the immune system, but it also helps your body use the vitamins you are taking. Good Luck! Hope you kick it soon.

message 1115: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I've also heard that things with zinc are the only thing really shown to prove a decrease in length and severity of colds

message 1116: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I've been loading up on apples, bananas, cran apple juice, and chicken noodle soup. :)

I just scanned and uploaded about a dozen pictures from back a few years ago to Facebook. I look at them and think I am so glad I am not there again, but at the same time miss those times. Do any of you do this? Doesn't make a bit of sense to me.

message 1118: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Tami, I kind of get what you're saying. I love where I am now, but I do miss college. Looking at those pictures can be bittersweet.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Anyone here good with accounting stuff? Specifically something along the lines of "Reporting and Analyzing Stockholders Equity"? I could really really use some help.

Kimberly, I can help if you want to message me.

message 1121: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments So I didn't feel like starting a new thread just for this...

Anyway, I'm in the musical, Parade by Jason Robert Brown. It's about the murder of Mary Phagan and the Leo Frank case. Any other history geeks here that know about the trial? I've been doing research about it and I've found myself thinking about it constantly. It's fascinating.

Melissa | 279 comments Sorry I haven't been posting. Life has gotten so crazy and I wouldn't change anything. I posted somewhere on the site that I was pregnant, well Zander decided to arrive on July 28th. It is very hard toget online, I am still trying to get a schedule down. Just wanted to let you all know I am still here. I can't wait till I have time to read again.

message 1123: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments This is a bit late, but congrats Melissa! July birthdays are great. ;) Mine is the 26th.

Tahleen Oh wow, congratulations! :)

message 1125: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen So I'm running a 5K on October 1 for Samaritans, which is an organization that works to combat suicide and help those who need it. We're raising money for the event, and if anyone would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's the link if you're interested: https://sna.etapestry.com/fundraiser/...

Thanks!

Tahleen, good luck with your 5K

message 1128: by Sashana (new)

Sashana So I don't know if anyone knows this but today is National Chicken Day. A restaurant in my neighborhood had a promotion that gave out 1/4lb of chicken if you wore yellow and clucked like a chicken. I'm equal parts amused and mortified that my family and I went clucking for chicken. It was one of the funniest and most embarrassing thing that I have ever done. So I have to ask...would you cluck for chicken? lol

message 1129: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Sure, why not? Sounds fun. A nice break from being "normal" all the rest of the time. I wonder what kind of promotions they will have Monday? It is actually on my calendar, it is "Talk Like a Pirate Day."

message 1130: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments hahaha! I totally would have done that!

This is book related, but still totally random. I left the house this morning WITHOUT my current read! I know I don't always have time to grab a few minutes to read at work breaks, and today has been one of those days I really can't but still......I almost feel as if I am not fully dressed or missing an arm or something. Goodness! I think there should be a 12 step program for this.

Lol, yes, I think you're in pretty good company here! I don't feel whole unless I take a book with me if I go out. Even when I know I won't have time to read it. Good thing it's almost time for the weekend :)

message 1133: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Tami, That happened to me the other day. I left home to stay at my boyfriend's, forgot my book for the next day (a day when I wouldn't have much free time), but I had to make a trip back to get my book. Don't feel bad! Celebrate it!

message 1142: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm going to echo Lori but... That is FREAKING AWESOME! I SO want to do that. Now I just have to make sure I marry someone who loves literature.

message 1143: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments So... Lately I've become addicted to Pinterest. Anyone else have one?

Here is mine. :)

message 1144: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Well, I told Zach about the cake and he said it sounds awesome. Once he gets up, I'm dragging him in to see how awesome it is. He, like me, was not overly impressed with the Beauty and the Beast cake topper, but the book idea sounded appealing.

message 1145: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Lori, since I am pretty sure what one of you books would be, you could always put Rhett and Scarlett at the top. :)

Kimberly, I hadn't heard of Pinterest, so I checked it out. Love the poddle skirt. Completely random! I had my mom make me one in 7th grade for Halloween and ended up wearing it for normal clothing. :) Had the saddle shoes, swiped her lettermans sweater (wrong year but it matched) and everything. I was a little odd.

message 1146: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker And Zach's specialty is the Civil War and Reconstruction from the Southern standpoint. I like your thinking!

haha, thanks Tami. :) This year's Halloween costume. Loved it, except for the fact that I had to show my ID multiple times to convince people that I was over the age of 18. I looked like I was 14, instead of 22.
And the story about your poodle skirt. hehe. Cute. :)

I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal on tips to save $10,000 in a year. This one made me laugh.

Cut back on new books. Fed up with paying $15 or more for the latest novels, even on your Kindle or Nook? Your correspondent likes to download classics from Gutenberg.org for free. And Amazon.com will sell you used paperbacks for about a dollar. Savings: $200 a year.

I am ashamed to say that if I did this, my savings would be much more than $200 per year.

message 1149: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I think we can all agree, Tami. I'm starting use my library more because I realize that I spend more than I can afford on books.
