Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Tami- that would have been fun! 300 hotdogs? Wow. That's pretty amazing.

Thriller was great! I really enjoyed it. Very talented group of performers, and if you like Halloween you'd love it. Michael Jackson fans would like it too. There is one number that is just called "MJ" it has several guys dressed like Michael dancing to one of his songs. After a while only one of the dancers is left on the stage, then a light comes on upstage and Elvis walks out, dances a bit and then waves for Michael to follow him and they walk off stage together. So touching!

Kimberly, a friend says that the dancing comes clear through the audience too. I should definitely try to get there next year.

Teheh. I put my title as Mama Bear on here. I think people are going to think I'm prego! I want a good title but can't come up with anything other than unemployed bum. I just put Mama Bear because this group is my baby. lol. Somebody please come up with something better! I'm in a random mood and Mama Bear made me giggle and the thought of people wondering if I'm prego kind of made me laugh too.

message 1055: by Natanya (new)

Natanya (vraisemble) | 255 comments Haha I saw that you'd done that and it made me laugh too :)

message 1056: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I think you should keep it as Mama Bear for a while! But for another title maybe 'the master multitasker'? You moderate this group and the blog. You're always doing something for either one.

message 1057: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Haha I'm glad you laughed, Natanya!

Jen--Ooh that's a good one. True story for real. It's like my full time job that I don't have. I have no idea what will happen when I get a FT job. I literally spend most of my days, when I'm not looking for a job, either reading or doing stuff for the blog. Although, I think that it's just because we are newer so I feel the need to get us "established" so to speak and then it will be a little bit easier as I won't have to promote and network as much.

message 1058: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I like Mama Bear! It sounds cozy. :)

message 1059: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments hehe, I like Mama Bear too. Or Resident Big Sister or something to that effect, since you're like the mom or big sister of the group.

message 1060: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Anna! No one ever answered your question. I don't have a tattoo, but my cousins do and I know that when they get new ones their skin is really irritated and red for a couple of days after, so I'm sure it does hurt at least a little. And I think it also depends on where you get the tattoo, some areas don't hurt as much.

message 1061: by Janet (new)

Janet I don't have a tattoo but I have thought about getting one. I don't know. I hear they hurt but if it's something you really like/believe in/want then it's totally worth it!

So this is random and kind of making me mad. I really wanted my husband read The Hunger Games but he went hunting so I let a teacher at school borrow it first. I told him I like to keep my books so be careful and he said he will because he keeps his books too. Anyway, it's been like a month and he hasn't given it back and my husband keeps asking about it. I keep asking the teacher and he's like oh I just read it when I can. I don't want to be rude but I kind of want my book back! I am almost just tempted to buy another one because I really enjoyed that book and want my husband to read it! Haha. Any suggestions?

P.S. Sorry I've been MIA for awhile. Me checking this and my email doesn't happen very often...and I don't really know why. Haha.

message 1062: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Janet--That's annoying when people don't get things back in a timely manner. I'd just ask him for it back and say that you promised it to somebody to read over the Thanksgiving break or something like that!

message 1063: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Anna: I've thought about getting a tattoo...I even know what I'd get/where I'd get it...but I am such a baby when it comes to needles. I know lots of people who have them though! But I think they're all liars because they all said it didn't hurt too much.

Janet: I had one friend who just gave me a book back and she borrowed the book five years ago. She never read it either! (I hope this doesn't happen to you!) But I agree with Jamie, tell him that you promised to let someone else borrow the book. Maybe tell him that you're letting a friend who is going on a long plane ride over Thanksgiving break borrow it?

oooh, thanks for the link. A friend of mine has a niece she is super close with that has cystic fibrosis and I wasn't really sure what that was, so I will definitely check this out and send her a link. The good news is her neice just received a double lung transplant, so things are looking much better for her.

message 1067: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Cystic Fibrosis is such a terrible thing. One of my classmates just died from it, his viewing is tonight. That's so great about your friend's niece, Tami!

message 1068: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Anna, I have something like 8 tattoos. They're on my stomach, forearms, back of thigh, foot, finger, shoulderblade and the back of my arm above my elbow (I don't know what this place is called). The worst were definitely the stomach and back of thigh, everything else was pretty much a cakewalk. Anywhere that is directly above a protruding bone (hips, elbow, etc) is going to be very painful. The way I've described the feeling to people in the past is a burning and dragging, and it gets worse the longer you're there.

message 1069: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments My husbands thesis is driving me crazy he is getting so cranky. I can't wait for it to be March 25th. Though on that day we finish one thing and start another. I may not be on much with in the next few months. My husband graduates from AFIT on the 25th of March, we move the 31st of March and on the 9th of March I am flying out to Colorado to look at houses. Then on April 8th we have to go up to Wyoming for a family reunion all this while pregnant, what fun! Oh and March 8th I find out if it is a boy or girl!! I am super excited!

message 1070: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Melissa, what part of Wyoming?

message 1071: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments He grew up in Wheatland but his grandparents live in Douglas. So we will probably be going to both.

message 1072: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments Wow you are braver than I am. Being in the military(a spouse) facebook is your saving grace to keep in touch with people you leave behing every three years! Kudos to you!!!

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Melissa wrote: "He grew up in Wheatland but his grandparents live in Douglas. So we will probably be going to both."

Oh ok. Cool. The reason I asked is that I have family in Robertson. It seems like in Wyoming, people that live within like a hundred mile+ radius know each other. But Robertson is quite a ways away from the places you mentioned.

Anna wrote: "Have any of ye got any tattoos? If yes, where, and how painful was it? I want to get one, but I know very little about them."

i have a tattoo of a scarlet lotus on my shoulder blades, but that's it.

and im currently freaking the heck out for mcats after my dad gave me a lecture on how hard they were. thanks dad, thanks alot.

message 1075: by [deleted user] (new)

if it were me i'd totally blow up on the person. i highly suggest you don't do that.
if your job is on the line, maybe it's best not to anything? or go to some one higher than him and complain?
just make sure you don't loose your temper.

message 1076: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) when the person says "I'm not racist but..." do they say it sarcastically or seriously? If they are serious maybe they just don't know it is racist and you might need to just bring it to their attention that it is in a gentle non-confrontational way. So the interaction might look a little like this...
Co-worker: "I'm not racist but star-bellied sneeches are the slowest workers ever"
You: "I don't think that is is an appropriate assumption to make"

message 1077: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
When they get the "I'm not racist but" part out, cut them off, and say "if you have to start the comment out like that, it is probably best left unsaid."

I would definitely try to talk to someone higher up than this person. This is seriously causing a hostile workplace and I am sure the higher ups would like to know. Just keep your cool. Good luck, tough issue.

message 1078: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Anna, check with human resources, I'm sure there must be some sort of law protecting employees from that sort of conduct, especially from a manager.

message 1079: by [deleted user] (new)

okay so this is really, really random but can anyone explain to me how passing out randomly is related to too much sugar in my system? apparently im banned from all cake, ice cream, candy, chocolate, doughnuts, lattes, whipped cream and bascially my entire diet for a month. and then i have to "moderate it"
i just dont see the connection. and its been two days, and im having withdrawals. this really sucks, and i think my dad just made that all up. did he?

message 1080: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Anna, definitley contact someone in your human resources department. You shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable at work.

Esme, I think the only way you can pass out from too much sugar is if you go into a diabetic coma. If your blood sugar level is always super high there is a chance of this happening. You shouldn't have too much sugar in your diet anyway, its not good to have an unstable blood glucose level.

message 1081: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Anna, maybe you could send a letter to someone higher up and mention it. Don't whine, but just say this coworker is creating a hostile work envoirment and that it makes you very uncomfortable. Do you work with customers? That's something else to consider, if this person is saying stuff like this where customers might here it, that is really bad.

Daisy | 686 comments Esme wrote: "okay so this is really, really random but can anyone explain to me how passing out randomly is related to too much sugar in my system? apparently im banned from all cake, ice cream, candy, chocolat..."

You're not diabetic right? Although a lot of sugar in your diet is not very healthy, you shouldn't randomly pass out from it. Passing out from having your blood sugar be too low (as in: you don't eat enough) is far more likely. Besides, it's not just the well-known sugar providers (like candy, cake etc.) that cause high blood sugar levels, carbohydrates are in lots of other stuff as well.

Esme, awhile back I had a similar problem. The doctor did put me on a really strick diet that included no sugars (real, fruit or artificial) but the real issue was yeast products so I couldn't have anything with yeast in it either. They said it was a yeast infection in my blood. Did you know most soups have yeast in them?
Wierd I know, but it kicked it. I also lost a lot of weight that month, but when I started adding certain foods back into my diet, I went back to my normal weight. Good luck, I know how bad it sucks.

message 1084: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Oh my gosh, I just trapped the biggest spider ever under one of my salad bowls! Seriously, it's huge! I thought I dropped some yarn or something and needed to clean it up until I saw it was a mega-spider.
I'm now waiting for my boyfriend to get home and make it go away (dead or alive, I don't care, it needs to be gone).

i think that's what my dad said too, i know it has something to do with yeast. i was allowed to eat fruits though. and now my dad's letting me eat sugary junk food under strict moderation, so its a start.

message 1086: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments Daisy-That's disgusting I hate spiders and refuse to get anywhere close to them. I'm proad of you for trapping it lol for me it would have been a 20min battle of flinging a bowl at it in hopes it would land on it lol.

message 1087: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Kelly - lol, it was more self preservation than bravery: it was sitting next to my bed, so I knew I wasn't going to get any sleep tonight if I didn't. Plus, I could get up on my bed and drop it down from there, I think I got lucky and it landed right.

message 1088: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I'm between annoyed and ecstatic. I walked a mile to work today in the pouring rain only to have them tell me they didn't need me today...annoyed at that and the fact that working=money and I am broke. However having an extra day off is great. Done with school and I have been cleaning my apt all day and putting away all the school junk from the term getting ready for next term. I swear my apartment is only really clean immediately after finals.

Good job on the spider effort Daisy.

message 1089: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Daisy, I'm so glad you trapped the spider! Spiders never used to bother me but over the past few years I've gotten way too many spider bites.

Annashu, that is really irritating! They should have called you ahead of time!

message 1090: by [deleted user] (new)

one of my brother's just embarrased the heck out of me in another group by spilling all my private stories out to my friends. he called it payback. for what, i'll never know.

message 1091: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments annashu- totally agree I only clean my room after finals too lol then when next term starts It's immediately gross again i don't get it.

Happy St. Paddy's Day to you Anna =)

Esme, it is probably something stupid like being born! Brothers are wierd like that.

Anna, Happy St Patties day to you too. I can't believe how many people here forgot their green. Do you think it would be considered sexual harassment to pinch coworkers?

Clean rooms are always more prevelant when you have time to actually get to cleaning! :)

message 1093: by [deleted user] (new)

eh, i pinched everyone...

message 1094: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) this is part of a notice sent out about why one of my classes is switching to a different room:

"...the sciences have stored a large cabinet of stuffed ducks and the skeleton of mountain lion in SB2 247. Unfortunately the dead animals occupy so much space that the fire code cap of the room has dropped from 75 to 60 and is too small..."

message 1095: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments haha That is interesting to say the least. I didn't know that fire codes also covered those animals.

message 1096: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments lol, that's hilarious Annashu.

So last night I was on facebook trying to find the page for the musical I'm in. Someone had mentioned it to me so I wanted to find it. I never did find it, but I found a link to an article with a video talking about the project. So I'm watching it and then, there I am! They recorded the read through that I was at and used a couple of parts from it for the video!

Anyway, if you're interested here's the link. You can see me towards in the end, I'm sitting next to the girl in a blue shirt with the short dark hair, I'm to the right of her.

Shelter, the musical

Anna Shumaker (annashu) "Just because this is the internet is no excuse for being rude"
I completely agree SBG. I get so annoyed at people who either say or post things that they would never tell a person to their face if they had any manners. Several of my classes have had on-line discussions and it seems like there is always one person who thinks they can be rude and it is just bad manners.

message 1098: by [deleted user] (new)

That annoys me to no end. Just because people can't get slapped across the cheek for saying something incredibly rude online, they think they can actually get away with it.
On another note, I gave blood today. Every year, I've done it. And every year, I tell myself: Esme, you will not have a panic attack, you will not shriek in agony as the tiny needle punctures your skin, you will not kick any male volunteers in the groin, you will not beg for death when they are disinfecting the skin, and you will definitely not pass out in the hallway again.
And every year, I never remember that mantra. I made a record this year: 4 volunteers holding my poor arm down, and I passed out three times before school ended.

message 1099: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Um... Esme... donating blood may just not be for you...

And good for you for sticking up for yourself, SBG! He got what he deserved! Treat yourself to some ice cream as a treat. :)

message 1100: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Esme, you are better than me. I am a huge baby with needles so I won't even attempt to give blood. I have a question: You are pre-med right? Isn't it going to be hard for you if giving blood makes you squeamish?

Saved by Grace: I LOVE IT! I don't get why people are rude either, but I am glad you stood up to it!
