Tahleen That made me laugh out loud too... and then I snorted haha. That is classic.

message 652: by Janet (new)

Janet Haha I LOVE when people snort! It's so funny!!

message 653: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen And then you laugh more and snort MORE. It's highly entertaining.

Anna Shumaker (annashu) So for some strange reason it is incredibly warm here so my mom and I went to the beach for sunset tonight. Shortly after the sunset though we noticed that the moon was sinking, which I don't think I have ever noticed before...I'm pretty sure this has to do with the equinox . I don't know exactly why though and it is really annoying...can anyone explain?

It's really funny because this is the first time in a long time I've been awake to see the sunrise..and not because I got up early today..it's because I just got home from work!! Yes..at 6:30 am. We had floorset tonight and so I volunteered to work from 8 pm to 6 am..and for that I get to see the sun rise! :)

message 656: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments That's kinda funny Annashu, because here its been much colder than usual. It's about 45 degrees outside right now. I think I'll go see if we have any hot chocolate in the break room...

message 657: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) September is often our best month, which is even better because all the tourists are gone

message 658: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) It has been AGES since I've been on GoodReads and this group and I must say, I've missed you guys! :/
I'm in Grad school for journalism and it has been kicking my ass!
Tonight is the first time I've been able to get on and go through threads and it's comforting.
Even though I haven't been able to comment as often as I'd like, I need to get back into the habit so that I can try to maintain some sort of outside "social" life and not crack under pressure!
Anyway, just wanted to put that out there and say I haven't forgotten about you ladies and thanks for keeping things running so that I had something to come back and look at when the time came :)
I will try to be more active now that I've finished reading past threads... maybe starting with the monthly read???
:o)

message 659: by Janet (new)

Janet I just had a random story. My school I am student teaching at was on the news today. We have had a huge outbreak of H1N1 flu and regular flu. We had 200 students out of school on Monday out of the 600 total. It's been crazy!! Just thought I would throw that wierd story out there!! Haha.

Anastasia- I agree with you and hopefully I can get back into the monthly reads! Haha. Things just get so busy with school but that is great you're in grad school. I hope you're enjoying it! :)

message 660: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow Janet, thats a lot of swine flu! Hows the H1N1 doing everywhere else?
Hahaha, I heard that employers are losing more money from employees who are calling in sick pretending to have swine flu than from people with actual swine flu itself!

message 661: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen A woman died in my county from it recently, it was on the news and my mom was like, oh my gosh who is that?? The woman was her age but I think she had some other health issues too.

A bunch of people at the college I went to have it. One of my friends actually did. I totally thought my boyfriend was joking when he told me that she had it. She's fine now though. Alot of other colleges around my area have students with it. Apparently at my school they are making people who had their own rooms move in with others to make some sort of sick rooms for ppl with the swine flu. Screw that. If I was at college and had the swine flu..I'd be going HOME!

message 663: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments At the moment I'm on a cruise with my family, we're on the Norwegian Pearl, and there are hand sanitizers everywhere. They are at the entrance to every restaurant and every time we leave the ship, or some back on we have to sanitize our hands. Its almost a little insulting to be told by one of the crew members to sanitize. lol. But its nice to know they are taking it so seriously. There are people on here from all over the world, just imagine if they got sick and then went home and spread it.

message 664: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Just don't use it instead of washing your hands... my brother just told us at dinner (gross) that it only kills them, it doesn't clean them off. So there are, according to him, a bunch of dead germs on your hands afterward.

message 665: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
When we went on our last cruise, 2 years ago, they had the hand sanitizers everywhere, and special paper towel dispensors by all the common doors, to open the door with a paper towel instead of touching it. I guess it is the close quarters or whatever. Even if it isn't swine flu, something can go around quickly.

message 666: by [deleted user] (new)

cruise how can i forget, the last time i went on a lovely cruise was in 1996, i think thats the date, yes it was a vacation to Athens greece, and a cruise to turkey. We stayed in a hotel in athens greece and took a bus tour all over greece and then a cruise to turkey, i dont know about you guys but i never got sea sick, or car sick or air sick, nothing sick, anyway the food on the cruise was amazing, but after a week of fun the adventure did not end, my dad had to fly back to the states to go to work and me and my mom flew from Greece to israel to visit my grandparents and relatives who still live there to this very day. i am hoping that after i graduate to revisit the place that i once called home

message 667: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Hey Gene, did you ever go to the doctor about your headaches?

message 668: by [deleted user] (new)

the answer is no, and i will tell you why, the reason is because first of all the headache stopped, its been ok for several months now, the number 2 is after my car accident, i walked away from it and i should have checked myself into a hospital to make sure i really was ok, but i did not, and then a few weeks later some of the pain began but i didnt say anything to anyone and then i have them once every few months and i dont think i should go because it was like 2 years ago or more and i dont think that the doctor will do anything so i dont see the point in going... that is why i didnt answer the support group thread because i didnt go to the doctor.

message 669: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 07, 2009 05:37PM) (new)

i am sure its only a migraine, its only new to me due to the fact that i never had them, that is why i was concerned, but they do not seem to pose a threat, so at this point i will not pursue this matter end of story

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments What is a good gift for a bridal shower? One of my good friends from High School is getting married and her bridal shower is this coming weekend. I haven't seen much of her since High School, but we've kept in touch. But I don't really know her as well I as used to, so much ideas for a gift would be much appreciated!

message 671: by Kat (new)

Kat (acharb11ymailcom) | 1 comments is there a gift registry?

message 672: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments It sounds weird, but if they will be getting a house, something that many couples forget about is a nice garden hose with a thing to hold it in.

message 673: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Kat- I'm pretty sure there is, but I think a few of my friends and I are going to pitch in to buy a gift for them both from that. I'm trying to think of a gift for her.
Jessi- Interesting idea, something that I would never have thought of. They're both still in school so they'll be living in an apartment near campus, or the Married dorms. But I'm going to keep that in mind for the next friend who moves into a house!

Another good idea, especially if one of them likes to cook, is a nice set of knives. I would recommend Cutco, but they are very expensive. Well worth the money though, maybe you could go in on something like that with a few people.

message 676: by [deleted user] (new)

just face the facts, its too late for me whatever happens, happens i will accept it

message 677: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Okay man, I just hope you're okay. We're here if you need it.

message 678: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah its no problem, i have not had the pain for a while now so.

message 679: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Good to know Gene, I'm glad you're feeling better.

But you'd better go to the doctor if something happens! Or else there will be some serious virtual-butt-kicking coming your way from this group!

message 680: by [deleted user] (new)

butt-kicking as a good thing or bad?

message 681: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Uh, bad. Usually being kicked is a bad thing. Meaning you're going to be in trouble with us if you don't get help if you need it.

message 682: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 14, 2009 06:12PM) (new)

its not like i would need any help, but in trouble how exactly?

message 683: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Ok, lets see if I can make this clear.

You get sick (the headache returns) and you don't get help (going to a doctor) you are going to be in serious trouble with us (meaning we lecture the devil out of you, also known as virtual-butt-kicking).

message 684: by [deleted user] (new)

the butt-kicking does not sound that bad, but i will make a trip if the pain returns or gets worse

message 685: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen So... it's back to class for me. I'm going to Simmons College for library science in January!

I pierced my ears last night. And I'm going to do it twice more, I want 4 holes in each ear. It bloody hurts though! Anyone got any tips on how to pierce one's ears evenly and how not to get an infection?

Get it done in a shop/store. That's the best way to go.

But if you really don't feel like doing that, I'd recommend using rubbing alcohol and/or fire, like a lighter, to sterilize your needle, rubbing alcohol to sterilize your ear, and then clean it with rubbing alcohol or peroxide very often to keep it from getting infected.

So I'm watching the World Series right now because my team is in it..GO PHILLIES!! (I know I'm going to get a snarkly little comment from the Yankee loving moderator on here :))

Anyways...Alanis morissette is singing the National Anthem. I just want her to bust out singing "You Oughta Know" or "Ironic" or something lol

message 693: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen For some reason I can't accept followers on my Twitter account (Jamie for example!) and it's making me angry. It says I have no new follower requests and I know it's NOT TRUE TWITTER.

message 696: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Jamie, Honey, Friend in Normal Times...The Yankees only have to win one of two at home and we almost came back and won last night after being in the hole 5-1. The only reason we lost last night is because I said I wish they could win in New York and that I was just depressed about baseball season ending and there being no more sports until April. I jinxed them; it was my fault; my dad hollered at my for it and life is going on.

message 697: by Lori (new)

Haha this I know to be true ( the Yankees only having to win one of two home games). However, I have high hopes that the Phillies will win! :)

We will resume being friends after Game 7 :)

message 700: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker No. We'll resume being friends after Game 6 because there's not going to be a Game 7.
