message 501: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Haha I'm glad everyone else is totally okay with all this, and in some cases delighted! I think I am also delighted. Liz, I hope you're right, I don't think she deserves him and that he deserves better.

And yay Rafaela! I do remember your guy issues. Good luck! I'll let you know what happens (if anything does) in my situation if you do the same.

Rafaela | 136 comments And Tahleen I do hope something happens!

message 505: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie This might sound whine-y but has anyone else had this issue? I have this group of friends I see sparingly throughout the year and mostly in the summer. My break just started when I got home Sunday and they have been wanting to hang out like every night. I've hung out with them twice and it's fun but I like having nights where I don't do anything at all. I like having quiet time with my family. Plus I have other friends I want to see who are the type of people I have to call and set up stuff to do. This group of friends sets stuff up and then calls me. Idk. I just don't want to hang out every night. Once or twice a week is fine. But I don't want to hurt their feelings.. How do I let them know that I don't really want to hang out all the time without making them feel like I never want to hang out again? Or should I just suck it up?

message 506: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Maybe you could just say you're not feeling well and want to stay in, or that you're tired.

message 507: by [deleted user] (new)

What Tahleen said is good, and also maybe you could just apologise and tell them you've made other plans.

message 508: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Haha that's funny, because that exact thing totally happens to me. I just thought I was strange. I only get to go back home twice a year for about 2 weeks each time, and honestly, all I want to do is just chill with my family. Yes, I'll hang out with my friends a few times, but I don't want to spend my entire visit hanging out with friends. And they always want to hang out with me, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I just feel like I want to be home, because I never get to see my family. Anyway, you can just say that you have other stuff going on and you can't make it. They should understand, right?

message 509: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) My problem is the opposite. I burned a lot of bridges before I left San Diego and I only talk to my best friend now. My mom does not want to let me out of the house to see her when I go down to visit. She likes her fine, but a lot of times I'm only there for a day and a half so it's tricky to make enough time for everyone to be happy.

message 510: by Janet (new)

Janet Actually my boyfriend is like that. I want to try and spend some time with my family because, honestly, I have the rest of my life with my boyfriend. And I am moving in with him in the not so distant future, so I would like to spend some time with my family. He has a hard time with that, but I just figure he'll have to get over it!! Haha.
I think even just explaining that to your friends, they'll understand!

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Tonight is my friends surprise bachelorette/bridal shower/birthday party. Any ideas for some fun games?

message 512: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) My boss called me this morning trying to get me to work because my co-worker called in sick. But the sun is shining and they are predicting low 70's today so I turned off my phone and am pretending I never got the call. I know it is horrible except I always work when people call in and I have never taken a sick day no matter how crappy I feel. Also yesterday she was complaining about how she wanted a day off to clean her house cause she went out of town for her weekend, so I'm a little suspicious.

message 513: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I ordered some summer clothes not too long ago and they finally arrived at the PO box today except by the time I got there the lady who hands out packages was already gone...I guess that is my karma for ignoring work.

Lynn, you just need to try not to feel guilty. If they are really friends they will understand, if not they are the selfish ones. Family is a bit trickier. Good luck.

hahah why is there a bird in your house??

and Kimberly..I'm not sure of how to do that..sorry!

message 518: by Janet (new)

Janet Haha we had the back door open for our dogs and it just flew in. It was a little bit hectic with two dogs and a cat and a random bird just flying around. It was a little stressful until it finally found it's way back out.

message 519: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I'm leaving tomorrow morning at 4 am for Texas! Sga is going on a leadership conference. I was excited but now I'm really nervous. We each will be rooming with strangers and I'm not big on that. eek.

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments Aww, poor scared birdie! That must have been so funny ;)

Lynn, why strangers?

message 521: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Lynn, I hope you have fun and end up with someone normal for a roommate, or at least someone not crazy. Good luck!

Liz Janet wrote: "Haha we had the back door open for our dogs and it just flew in. It was a little bit hectic with two dogs and a cat and a random bird just flying around. It was a little stressful until it finally ..."
Aww I'm sorry, it's always annoying when little critters that you enjoy watching but don't want in your ouse do just that.
A squirrel apparently got into my kitchen once (I live on the 4th floor!) but apparently the cleaner was in there in the time, and let's just say she's not friendly. I also know someone who had a squirrel run into his room through the open window (this is also on the 4th floor), take some of his chocolate that was sittingon his desk, and leave.

We had a bat in the store when I worked at Dillards way back. I thought it was hilarious. About half the girls and a few guys were all freaking out. It was just a little guy, and they don't really fly around he was just stuck to the wall clear up there. Finally one of the boys had some type of net, caught him and released him outside.

Question for those of you that work at Barnes and Noble. I noticed on my last email something about a kids club that over summer if they read a certain amount of books they can get a free one. Can someone let me know how that works? My nieces and nephews love to read.

We had a bird flying around Forever 21 the other day. We have a huge store and probably about 6 different HUGE doors that it could have gotten out of it..and yet..it flew around the whole day and just sooo close to the doors but couldn't manage to get out. Stupid bird. I got a little nervous though by the end of the day because I figured it had to crap sometime..and it was scaring me because now it was flying lower than it was before. I'm terrified of birds pecking my eyes out!

message 525: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Tami, all they have to do is get a sheet from the kids' section (at least that's where they get it at my store, I'd ask at the Customer Service desk first maybe) and they fill it out as they read their books. The books have to be age-appropriate (like if they're in fifth grade they can't just read a bunch of picture books), and each entry has to be signed by an adult. They just say the name of the book, the author and their favorite part. Then they bring it in to the store and they'll get a coupon for a free book, though they have to choose from a set list. In my store they're all grouped together. I think they can do it up to two times, at least that's how it was in the past at my store.

That is such a great idea! I have an elementary school right next to my house and they open the library ever Thursday through summer. What a great way to keep kids reading.

message 527: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Yeah, I love it. They've had it for years; I remember doing it one year and getting Ella Enchanted at the end. I love that book. :)

message 528: by Janet (new)

Janet Wow that's such a good idea. I just remember when we were kids, during the summer Pizza Hut would do a kids read thing and you had to read so many books and you would get a free pizza. Not a bad idea either. I love that they open up the school library! If I were a libraian I would totally do that!

message 529: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Yep. Tahleen covered it! =) We have the sheets at both customer service and in the kids section.
And Janet, I totally remember that! Wasn't it called BookIt or something?

message 530: by Liz (new)

Liz Janet,I totally remember the Pizza Hut thing--at my school they did it monthly during the year. Mmm...tasty...haha at least it was as a 5th grader!

I called out of work today. I'm feeling pretty sick. It started last night. I really need the money..and I hate being sick..but at least I get some quality reading time in!

message 534: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I might have a job! I really hope it works out... one of my mom's colleague's is looking for someone to essentially spend the night at her mom's house and assist her if she needs to go to the bathroom (she lives independently but just needs to be checked up on). It would only be for a month while the woman is out of town. So I wouldn't really have any free nights and I wouldn't even be sleeping at my own house (kinda a weird thought) but it's only a month and since the woman would be sleeping the majority of the time I can just read and sleep! wow I really hope I get it. And I hope my friends would be understanding and I would hope I still get to have fun time this summer

Lynn..I hope you get the job. Sounds like it might be a cool experience to get to know someone.

Hm..so life for me..it's been crazy. That explains my absence. I've been so busy with school and work that I haven't had time to breathe!

message 537: by Janet (new)

Janet We found out last night that my Uncle is getting a hospice. (Is that how you would state it?) So we're all really sad around here. I feel really sad for his family and my mom and aunt and grandma. My grandma doesn't really know how to cope with it very well, so it's hard. But he talked to my mom and said he could have a week or he could have 6 months left, but it's just sad to think about. How hard to know that it's coming, I don't know what I would do. But atleast with a hospice he'll be out of pain for the most part and still getting help. Now it's just a sad waiting game.

Aw, Janet I am so sorry. I remember Hospice very well. I hated when they would come to the house. You are right..it is just a sad waiting game. I will be thinking of your family and saying a prayer. Hospice is good in the way that he really will be out of pain..but honestly..as morbid as this might sound..say your goodbyes soon..because sometimes they get so out of it on the pain meds and stuff that they don't know what's going on.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Could someone help me with this? I'm trying to translate this for a friend, if it is indeed a real language. We think it might be Islamic. I have no idea what it really says, so if it is something offensive, my apologies.

"saya merasa awam apaitu di suatu jalan yang banayak sekali gang gang
untuk ku masuki dengan rasa bingung dan heran aku mohon petunjuk yang
membuatku bisa berjalan lurus "

I was checking out the giveaways again and came upon this book.

Until the Deep Water Stills: An Internet-enhanced Novel by Michael Robert Dyet

It's synopsis says that "internet-enhanced" means there is a web site that offers more insight into the lives of the characters, one has a photo album, and that there are secondary story lines.

What do you all think about this? Good idea, Bad idea?

message 541: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Tami, I've read a book that I remember being similar to that...Cathy's Book If Found Call (650)266-8233. There's like numbers to call and an 'evidence' packet. It was okay, but not as interesting as I thought.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
hmm..that sounds interesting..I'm not sure if I think it is good or bad interesting.. I'm thinking I wouldn't like it.

message 543: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I think it was for much younger girls - I was probably 20 at the time.

message 544: by R (new)

R (feste) Kimberly, that's Malay/Indonesian! I understand basic words and phrases, but I can't speak the language fluently so I can't really translate it properly... I think it's a poem, something like "I feel like there are many paths, I feel confused and tell myself to walk straight"? Haha. That's probably kinda wrong. Hope it helped though!

This "internet-enhanced novel" sorta reminds me of Heroes, as in the TV show... I've been told that it has additional web content like comics and "documents" which, for the most part, I've never bothered to look up.

message 545: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Lost definitely had that kind of thing going for awhile too. I remember having to call certain phone numbers and whatnot to figure out clues...

message 546: by R (new)

R (feste) Yeah, now that you mention it Kelsey, I remember that about Lost too, though unfortunately I stopped watching it ages before the finale...

Really?? Maybe I didn't catch it because I came in late to the game.

message 548: by Kelsey (last edited Jun 11, 2009 11:12AM) (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) There was this commercial during the show one time and it was for the Hanso Foundation or something and it had a number to call. So you really had to be scrutinizing everything like crazy just to notice it, because it was between all the other commercials. And then I think there were websites to go to based on the information you got on the phone...I think all of this was a few years back though.

message 549: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) So I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and I can't wait to get away for an entire week. Work has been out of control and stressful recently.. I'm sort of torn on this vacation because I don't get a ton of vacation time & we're going to a lakehouse in Maine in the middle of the woods. I'm more of a tropical beach kind of girl. The bugs up there are horrible and it's supposed to rain ALL week. But, my best friend is coming up for a few days so I'm excited that we'll get to hang out. & if there is some sort of miracle and we have good weather we are going on a 4 hour tubing trip.

I also just bought one of the new macbook pros & got a free itouch & printer :)
