I know that Grim Reapers aren't angels but they are in a weird class of their own...ethereal and mysterious. I'd like to add a thread for this here, I hope your all OK with it.

I recently read a really good book about a Grim Reaper called First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones. It's very witty, endlessly entertaining and well written. First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones

I also just started reading a book called Death most definite about a Grim Reaper. Death Most Definite (Death Works, #1) by Trent Jamieson

It's pretty good so far.

OH, I didn't know that Joe Black was based on a book. Thanks Patti, I'll check it out. I loved that movie by the way!

Amy ~Lover of Books~ Well, does the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost count? I know the series is about vampires, but the main girl is known as the Red Reaper.

I did a bit of looking and it appears that it was only a screenplay :( and Meet Joe Black was a remake of the original movie - Death Takes a Holiday.

Kate Bowyer (kate_bowyer) | 2 comments I've never read any books about the Grim Reaper, I'd think you could have a lot of fun with a story with him in it.

I am assuming the Grim Reaper is male but maybe that's wrong?

And I also really liked Meet Joe Black.

I know I'm all for it! The Wisdom of Evil, my second novel is about The Grim Reaper and a woman who suffers from Thanatophobia( obsessive fear of death.) When he becomes a real flesh and blood enemy, she is caught in a deadly cat and mouse game with him. The Reaper is fascinating myth!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 143 comments There is a sort of Grim Reaper/Angel of Death type figure in The Graveyard Book. She is depicted as a beautiful lady in a gray gown riding a large gray horse. I thought it was very beautiful and poetic. Bod asks if he can ride her horse and she tells him, "Not now, but someday."

October Dreams: A Celebration of Halloween

I just read a cute story about a man catching Death in a trunk on Halloween in order to keep him from getting his wife.

Barbara ★ The Soul Screamers series has a grim reaper and a banshee (one who sees death coming).

Scarlet Black | 23 comments I did put the cover to: The Wisdom of Evil up in this thread, but it didn't include the discription for some reason. In this novel, Glory Solomon is a woman who has Thanatophophia, an obsessive fear of death. When the Grim Reaper becomes a real flesh and blood enemy, no one will believe her, including her tough as nails husband who is a cop. When the reaper takes away almost everyone she loves, she tries to run, until she suffers the most unbearable loss of all. Now, she must fight back in a deadly cat and mouse game...winner take all.

I know I'm coming to this thread a little after the fact, what with the last post being 2012, but I just thought I'd share anyway.

In some mythology, the Grim Reaper is actually an angel, the Angel of Death. I've portrayed the Grim Reaper as such in my fantasy novel, "Angel of Death" which is the first book in a trilogy. If anyone is still looking for a good read about the Grim Reaper or the Angel of Death, you might like to check it out. Angel of Death:
