mind-bending novel about a bookshop some weird plot [s]

This was a widely reviewed book about 5 years ago I think. All I remember about the book was that it took place in a bookshop. I think a daughter ran a bookshop that was her father's.

One thing I remember was that it really switched back and forth between an actual story, and an imaginary story, and dreams, etc. Very unusual book.

Indeed that was it - thanks! The mind-bending part was the Julian Carax meta-layer. I think I remembered the Father-Daughter plot from The Historian.
