So i got a free sample of this book because everybody was raving about it but, the beginning disappointed me. I feel that this isn't Stephanie Meyer's style and i was overwhelmingly confused. Should i keep reading?

Mansi You need to keep reading this.... the first chapters are whatever but then you'll be begging doe the sequel!

Vanessa Hairfield Def keep reading. The paces picks up. It's a good book.

Darlene Definitely! It's so good & you'll get it after a while

Torie I personally didn't like it all the way through.

Lydia When i read the first chapter I was like "WHAT IS GOING ON?!?! This doesn't make any sense!" but believe me it gets WAY better! The Host was WAY better than Twilight! You should def def def keep reading :D It might take a while...but it gets better, don't worry :D

Jennifer Schubmehl It took me a little while to get into the book also. I debated reading it, but I did finish it and really enjoyed it. Keep reading!!!

Keep reading, it takes a little while but it is worth the effort. It becomes a very enjoyable story and I am waiting for the 2nd installment.

Kristine This was okay. But I was surprised to hear her say in an interview that she intends now to make this into a trilogy?! I think I read enough... I don't need two more books of this!

Shelley Chastagner I LOVED this book, but my best friend didn't like it at all. She was "stuck" in Forks. She just couldn't let go of the style and flow of the "Twilight Saga". If you can see this book as a completely different entity from the Twilight books you will enjoy it a great deal.

Valerie I got through about half of the audio book and just couldn't take it anymore. Maybe the book to read might not be as bad in comparison, but I'm not in any rush to try to find out.

message 12: by Edie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Edie It does take a little bit of effort to get used to the different style of writing, but it is worth it. I actually enjoyed this book more then the Twilight Saga.

Christina O. The first 100 pages are boring, it's good after that.

André Alves Keep reading, I think it was the best book of Stephenie Meyer, it will get better

Dominus~ The Host is one of my favorite books. On the first chapters, it doesn't make sense but then if you REALLY WANT to understand what's happening, THEN YOU SHOULD KEEP READING.

Emily I currently reading this book, but i'm taking a short break as i found it so hard to get thru but i will keep reading it because i believe you guys and i will be sure to post what i think

Izzat Zainal The first hundred pages are boring. It took me about almost a month to just read the first hundred pages because I always yawn and put down when read the first few hundred pages. But after it i just can't put it down! Just keep reading. :)

message 18: by AH (new) - rated it 3 stars

AH My friend and I read this book at the same time and every day we would complain that it was boring. I recall that the first half was quite dull, the other half a little exciting. I was not impressed.

Ashley Brooke It took me 100 pages to get into the story. Once you get over those original 100 pages, the story is fantastic. My suggestion? If you really can't get through the beginning, skip to page, 103 or the nearest chapter to then and start there. :-)

Liz Barrons-Kattalakis-Quiakides-Tehrror Keep reading!!!!!! This is one of my favorite books, I have also the audiobook in my IPOD and I hear it a lot.

At first when I stated it reading I thought it was WEIRD and so not what I was looking for after reading TWILIGHT. But then it after Chapter 12...OMG it gets really good!!!! It's just so beautiful and intense...it really moves me!!!! LOVE IT!!!

Stormy I am just not on page 200 or something. For me this book isn't one that I picked up and had a hard time putting it down. It's been very easy for me to sat it down and walk away from it. Granted, I agree with everyone else when they say around page 100 or so....it tends to get a little more interesting. But i really do not like Stephanie Myers writing style in this book. Just my opinion of course.

Moulee it is boring...meyer takes a while to bring the action...once melanie encounters jared...its pretty good..get to that part...you wont complain anymore..

message 23: by Dana (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dana Try not to compare it to Twilight b/c it is so different. I had a hard time with the beginning too. Press through...it is an enjoyable read.

Shannon Mitrovich The first half is tough. I had to force myself to keep reading. But it is worth it in the end. The second half and ending are great. Keep reading.

Pepca Definitely keep reading, it gets better - the style might seem unlike Stephenie Meyer at first, but I think it is her best book so far.

Tracey Smith Step 1. Realize it is NOT Twilight. That doesn't mean it isn't good. The beginning is confusing, but the answers come if u keep reading. I actually really enjoyed the story once I accepted it for what it was and not what I expected it to be. The love triangle is there, it just takes awhile to get to it. I've had friends who couldn't finish it, got bored and gave up. I've read it twice. The second time I actuallyu thought was better because I knew what was coming and had more incentive to keep reading and get to the good part.

Rachel Jaadhav I am personally one for a captivating beginning this is supposed to catch my interest, which is something basic we are all taught in English/ Literature class. I couldn't stand this book, I couldn't even get all the way through it. I stopped reading after the 3rd chapter and gave it away.

Yusra Keep reading till the end it's gonna be worth it =D

Avital Definitely! This book is awesome, once you reach page 50 or so it gets so thrilling you won't be able to stop.

Amanda Lopez Sam wrote: "So i got a free sample of this book because everybody was raving about it but, the beginning disappointed me. I feel that this isn't Stephanie Meyer's style and i was overwhelmingly confused. Shoul..."

omg! i feel the same way! i thought i was crazy beause eveyone looooves the book but i said that like "huh?" lol. i just dont know...

Julie I took my four trys to start reading before I could continue on and finish the book. If my sister in law hadn't already read it and told me to keep going, I don't think I would have. I am however glad that I did. I ended up really enjoying it.

message 32: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann Harrison I love this book! I liked the Twilight series but The Host is much more grown up and very well written. The plot is well developed as are the characters. I would recommend to anyone, but if you're expecting another Twilight then you're going to be disappointed!

message 33: by Adam (new) - rated it 3 stars

Adam I really grew to dislike the Twilight series especially after the waste of the final book, but The Host in my opinion is so much better. For one, we're following adults with a better understanding of love and commitment than hormonal teenagers. Still a lot of the same love-delusion themes remain. But, I was mostly pleased with the book. I suggest it to my friends who want to check out Meyer but don't want to be caught dead with a Twilight book -- my wife included, haha.

Gillian I started it, put it down, started again and read it through and loved it. persevere a little longer. it's worth it.

Carol really enjoyed this book although it took a while to get into it, thought of giving up so glad i didn`t .

Jasmine Wingate The beginning was quite boring for me, but a couple chapters in, I really started to like it.

Jackie I really liked this book. Keep reading! It takes a minute but you'll probably eventually get hooked.

Andrea I hated this book, it was so boring and I just don't believe nothing about that reality.

Christa I stopped and never finished it.

Shawn Yes... Keep reading!!! I almost didn't because of the beginning.. but after you get into like chapter 4 I think.. thats when you can't put it down.

Laura so did you keep reading?

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah i restarted yesterday night ... i haven't had much time so i haven't gotten very far

Laura i read the first chapter and put it down for like a month or so. but when i picked it back up it was easier to get into. i liked it but when i tried to re-read it i couldn't.

Christy It took me a while to decide if I would finish this book or not. I was totally confused as well. I'm not generally into books that I would classify in the sci-fi genre and this is definitely sci-fi. Way out there! Hang in there though because it gets fast paced and all questions are answered. You won't be confused forever! I ended up really enjoying it.

Kellan Jennifer wrote: "It took me a little while to get into the book also. I debated reading it, but I did finish it and really enjoyed it. Keep reading!!!"

I found that aswel the beginning was fine i just had a tough time keeping with it after she gets caught and there was like the 2 chapters during the middle of the book when it was just repeating the same things everyday, but after that it got soo much better again :D

Stormy So i commented on this before, and this was BEFORE I finished the book completely. The book picked up quite a bit at around page 400. I really enjoyed it after that and can't wait for the sequel to come out.

I agree xD
is there actually going to be a sequel?? a few people have said that on here O.o

karlipagemaster Yes! I know the beggining is uber slow, but trust me, it is worth the wait.

message 49: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin It starts off VERY slow...but it WILL pick up, and when it does, plan for some late nights because you will not put it down! :)

Melissa Yes, the beginning is slow, but it gets much better. After finishing reading the book, I went back a while later and reread the first couple of chapters, and LOVED them the second time around, because now you have knowledge of what was going on..."They called him Fords Deep Water..." first line and I loved it!
