Arminius They both make promises that they can not keep. They both watched energy prices go through the roof and now say they can fix them. They both did nothing on healthcare now promise they will.

I hate my choices. This is the first time in my voting history that I disliked both candidates.

Yet there was one candidate with executive experience, business experience, and instituted healthcare for his state as well as ran a successful enormous enterprise. And we were to stupid to nominate him.

Come to the dark side.

Dave Russell I'm pretty happy with my choice this election. I could vote for a guy who's kept his cool throughout despite some pretty nasty attacks or vote for a guy who panicked during a financial crisis, said he was going to suspend his campaign, didn't, said he was going to skip the debate, didn't, and now that he is behind is running nothing but negative ads.

Arminius A successful third party would need an attractive issue to gain a following. One or both of the parties would recognize the issue and adapt it as their own. That takes the sting out of the third party. It may linger for a while but it will never gain success.

Amanda (randymandy) I'd think we'd need four and not just three. With a third party, it takes away votes from one, but not both, of the other two. Basically giving us a winner by default...

Nikki Boisture I don't live in a swing state. Maryland is solidly Democrat and Obama should monkey-stomp McCain here. So I feel comfortable "wasting" my vote. If you are interested in third party voting, but live in a swing state, you can try vote pairing. So if you are voting Obama, but really hate your major party choices, you team up with a guy who is voting McCain but also hates his major party choices. Your votes would cancel each other out. So you make a pact that you will both vote for any third party candidate. I don't know if I explained that very well.

This year there was a coalition against deficit spending and against continuing the war in Iraq among many of the third party candidates. There really are candidates out there who are MORE anti-war than Obama! Most people will never find out about them though....

Amanda (randymandy) Oh, most definitely, you're right. Plenty of anti-war candidates. Not a bad idea about the vote pact. :)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) Oh, the joys of the winner take all / electoral college system. I voted major party in the first election i could vote in because i was young and foolish, and in the last one because the idiot we've got now desperately needed to be voted out, but i voted 3rd party in the ones in between. Twice i voted for the Natural Law party, and i don't know anything about them. The presidential ballot hasn't been in doubt here in decades, so it doesn't much matter who i vote for and i might as well express my displeasure with the big guys.
