Why didn't Noelle or Reed know?

Spoiler, please don't read this, if you havn't read 8 'Revelation'


I love the PRIVATE-series, and I think Kate Brian is really good to get all the details in the crimes right. But after finishing 'Revelation', I couldn't get the pieces right.

Sabine was Ariana's sister.

1) Sabine has caribbean-dark skin, and so has her mother. Is it normal that a dark woman can give born to a pure white girl, like Ariana, if just the father is white. Can't remeber the genetics from biology.

2) All the time when Ariana was a Billings-girl, Noelle had the CD with all the backgroundinformation about every Billings-girl. And she read it very thoroughly. Even if Sabine only were Arianas half sister, how could Noelle not have known that long before Sabine came to Billings? Especially when Ariana showed up to be a killer, you should thing that both Noelle and Reed, when she also got the CD as the new Billings-chairman, would have read Arianas file very thoroughly.

The number 2 really spoils the plot for me. Am i mistanken?

I have the exact same question! I hadn't thought about #2 but #1 certainly crossed my mind many times. All I can think is that maybe Noelle didn't look Ariana up because they were such good friends. Reed does say that the only person Noelle trusted and didn't tease was Ariana, due to their special relationship. Both of these definitely confuse me, though!

About genetics: I know of a mixed race couple (white female, black male) that gave birth to a blonde haired blue eyed child. She had some feature that were more like her father, but it is possible.

1) Sabine and Ariana are stepsisters by her father's side. Ariana's mom is blonde and blue eyed (she appeared in "Last Christmas" and Privilege series). Also, when she's talking to Thomas, Ariana says her mother had several depression and her father used to disappear for days, cheating on her, so I guess Sabine is Ariana's dad's "bastard" daughter :)
