Unconvincing. If you're arguing that executive experience is necessary to "govern," why was George Bush such a disaster? Success at governing has to do with 1) the hand you've been dealt: economic conditions, foreign policy situations. Obama had been dealt the worst hand in probably forever - near economic Depression, massive debt, two long, deadly and expensive wars. 2) your management style. Are you hands off, do you delegate everything, or do you nitpick and hypermanage every detail? 3) the staff you pick - are they skilled? Can they work with Congress to get your legislation through? 4) Is Congress working with you, or against you? Obama lost the 60th Dem in the Senate when Ted Kennedy died, making things a lot more difficult. He suffered in the midterm elections.

He's still gotten a lot of shit done. The big strike against him is that unemployment is still extremely high. It may be that there's nothing he can do about that. It may be structural, and no amount of interest rate cutting by the Fed, loose credit, will spur hiring.

Yes, and if we had a bigger budget, we could pay him to go away for longer than a day.

Bad English teacher, bad! I totally gave up after one attempt to spell the word.

Plus, the thing is with spell check, one has to guess even close enough to get the right word to come up as an option. It makes me writhe to sit there and repeatedly guess wrong at the spelling.

And she's doing a terrible job. She hasn't dropped any F-bombs, insulted anyone's mother, or paid any heed to the old adage that you shouldn't argue about politics.

Who give a fat fuck about politics?

Janice (jamasc) Scout wrote: "Statement: Plastic surgery sucks."

It does if it's liposuction.

message 228: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments Ha! Good one, Janine.

Some people have so much plastic surgery that they start looking freaky, like caricatures of themselves. Goldie Hawn has this new book out about how to be happy with yourself, but when I see what she's done to herself, well, I don't think I'll read that book.

I'm OK with a little botox, a little filler here and there, but the puffy lips and the raised eyebrows?

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I want to love everybody but I can't. So I love the American Constitution (revised). I respect everyone's right to live peacefully and earn a living as long as it does not harm others except when it can't be helped. I believe in sacrificing one to save many. Children are more important than adults. Democracy is the best political system as long as everyone is educated and free to rise to their level of expertise. Spanking by anything except an open hand is wrong, and all spanking is wrong if the child is a baby or toddler or prolonged. All children should be loved by their parents and if not, abortion should be performed or adoption forced. Child abusers should be given life in prison. Republicans who are Tea Party or Christian Right are the most ignorant and badly educated political Americans, along with some home schooled programs and some charter school graduates. Regular Republicans are singularly selfish, self-centered, and cruel. Democrats, my party choice normally, is breaking my heart with their damned cowardice and failure to stand up and support the liberal causes they are supposed to. I love unions except when they become defacto mafia criminals. I despise men who think they are better than women because they are male, and vise versa. The undeserving poor need to be supported as much as can be spared because otherwise you will be living in a society similar to Haiti. I have been told to my face each of my above statements makes me a bad person at one time or another.

We're a verbose, prickly bunch, Mr. Kyle. If your feelings get hurt or you are not happy with others posts, rather than posting an asinine "you give me a headache" comment, take a deep breath, find another thread, another conversation, another topic, or even still another group. There are many and it is not your job to make everyone in here acquiesce to your desires.

Catherine, you may not be aware of this, but for someone with MS, reading posts with more than one line of text without a line break may be impossible.

So I try to keep my posts short.
