Sally wrote: "Political discussions do not get my gander. I honestly and truly just do not have passionate opinions about politics."

I don't know what you include under politics, but suppose you worked for a Catholic high school or university, and the health insurance you had through it prohibited you from getting birth control? What if the only gynecologist within 500 miles was Planned Parenthood, and they shut down because they lost their funding? Maybe you have no passionate opinions about politics because you have never been affected (as you see it) by a political decision.

mark monday (majestic-plural) Like.

mark monday (majestic-plural) a person whose main contributions to a group (online or otherwise) are sexual innuendos is... creepy, sad, lonely, and most likely not enjoying much sex themselves.

or perhaps the opposite is true... down to earth, happy, well-liked, and sexed-up.

mark monday (majestic-plural) c'mon, what do you actually think Phil? i have noticed that you actually do contribute more than sexual innuendos. from time to time.

mark monday (majestic-plural) people who watch a lot of sports have weak brains. same with people who watch a lot of reality tv. in fact, they are two sides of the same coin.

message 808: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) many liberals are infuriating because although most of their stances have moral authority, they seldom claim moral authority. because that wouldn't be liberal.

many conservatives are infuriating because although their stances claim moral authority, the opposite is true.

libertarians shouldn't be lumped with conservatives. their goals are entirely different.

anarchisism isn't actually to the left of liberalism. it is more closely tied to libertarianism.

communism is to the right of liberalism.

message 809: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) folks who don't like the word "folks" hate people. secret misanthropes.

message 810: by mark (last edited Jun 28, 2012 10:37PM) (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) people who don't believe in God will still get into Christian Heaven, if they are good people.

a "good Christian" is a person who has accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. they can do terrible things, and will still get into Christian heaven.

A good quote about libertarianism from Thomas Frank"

“Libertarianism is good because it helps conservatives pass off a patently probusiness political agenda as a noble bid for human freedom. Whatever we may think of libertarianism as a set of ideas, practically speaking, it is a doctrine that owes its visibility to the obvious charms it holds for the wealthy and the powerful. The reason we have so many well-funded libertarians in American these days is not because libertarianism suddenly acquired an enormous grassroots following, but because it appeals to those who are able to fund ideas. Like social Darwinism and Christian Science before it, libertarianism flatters the successful and rationalizes their core beliefs about the world. They warm to the libertarian idea that taxation is theft because they themselves don’t like to pay taxes. They fancy the libertarian notion that regulation is communist because they themselves find regulation intrusive and annoying. Libertarianism is a politics born to be subsidized. In the “free market of ideas,” it is a sure winner.”

that is fascinating. although i would like to have seen more about how libertarianism has grassroots appeal to folks without money. if indeed it does.

I long for the days when rock stars were discovered at the Marquee Club and not the Mickey Mouse Club because let's face it: most music released since, oh, that first Oasis album dropped back in the mid-90's falls just this side of memorable.

mark monday (majestic-plural) rough!

i believe in God, but only in a vague sort of way. more of an energy i suppose, than a big human in the sky. my thoughts on the matter are not too specific. i don't believe in hell, that seems ridiculous.

message 823: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) i like that, "hopeful Agnostic". i think that describes a few people i know. although "doubtful Agnostic" probably describes a few more.

or teachers, perhaps. i have a couple teacher friends who are on GR & FB who are nervous about the idea of their students getting a window onto their social life or even seeing their opinions about things in general. makes sense to me.
