Kristina (klonk) I love reading on the train (long-distance trains). That usually gets me into the right mood and my reading is unstoppable, unless I happen to fall asleep, that is. Other than that, I really like reading in my couch at home. It's comfy, fully of pillows and a blanket. And candles to lit are very close by.

message 52: by Liz (new)

Liz Thanks Jeane, I am enjoying myself so far!

message 53: by Allison (new)

Allison in the tub, except i can't stand a lukewarm bath, and i can only get through a few chapters before i get way too hot.

in bed when it's winter. with the electric blanket, my baby dog curled up next to me and an ice cold water on the nightstand.

on the beach/by the pool in the summer. with a tropical drink. and when it gets too hot, i can dip my legs in the cool water.

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Wow...Allison you sound exactly like me. LOL

I like all those places to and I get to hot in the tub too. LOL

If I'm by the beach or pool in the summer time I like to be able to dip my feet in when I get to hot there too.

Great minds think alike :~)

message 55: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes So many places. I take a subway to work. That is where I read books, 60 to 90 minutes each way. I read magazines on the throne. The New York Times at work (paper) and at home (on-line). Then there are the sundry web sites.

message 56: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Will - I can't imagine commuting such a long distance, so many hours of time travelling. But I would enjoy being able to read uninterruptedly though. Where I live most businesses open at 8.30 a.m. and that is interpreted locally as that's the time you leave for work, so there are always traffic jams in town at 8.45-9.00 a.m. We'd never get away with it in the US or UK!

message 57: by Coalbanks (new)

Coalbanks | 186 comments The public library, plenty of books at hand, no reshelving required, access to videos, the internet & to coffee & sandwiches, occassionally a conversation with a friend or new aquaintance.

message 58: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) You have a nice library Coalbanks. The one round here only has mouldy donated books and dial-up internet.

message 59: by Liz (new)

Liz Coalbanks your public library sounds totally idyllic--the description of it is very reminiscent of a Barnes and Noble.

message 60: by Karol (new)

Karol M | 19 comments My favorite places to read are on my comfy couch in the living room, with no t.v. or music in the background and in my bed on Saturday mornings and every night before I fall asleep. I can't read outdoors or in cafes or with noise in the background---to distracting. I do like a cat to sleep right next to my feet. And when I had a boyfriend I liked to do side-by-side reading. Cheers everyone!

message 61: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (katymac55) During the summers, almost everyday I walk to this park with my little blanket and I lie under this favorite tree that I have and read there. Sometimes, if it feels right I work on my writing as well. It's a big park and it's free from traffic so its a good place to relax and get absorbed in your book.

message 62: by Malena (new)

Malena (badgalmalmal) I love reading in cafes. A good coffee with the hum of people. Every now and then I'll put down my book and just watch people go by.

message 63: by Cassidy (new)

Cassidy Savage (savagegy6) I'll read anywhere when I have the opportunity.
But I love reading in bed; hot cup of tea next to me, my puppy snuggled up and my book...aaaawwww, that's like vacation for me! lol

message 64: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Mel - I think that's a special pleasure of travelling. Going to a foreign place and sitting in a nice outdoor cafe watching people and reading.

message 65: by Jill (new)

Jill (wanderingrogue) | 329 comments Usually lying on my bed. I like to read on airplanes, though. I usually get motion sickness if I try to read in cars, and I've never taken the train for anything other than very short trips while on vacation (my state's not very train-friendly), so the airplane is it.

I do love curling up on the couch with a good book, but I live with my folks at the moment (can't afford rent while working for a charity that can't afford to pay me a living wage), so they usually have the TV on in there.

I wish I had a kitty. My last kitty died a couple of years ago right before Xmas. My snake did too. She was a good reading buddy. She liked to curl up on my shoulders (and in my hair, unfortunately).

message 66: by Katie (new)

Katie (rhondakate) I like reading in the back seat on the bus. At home I like reading in my computer chair or on the couch.

message 67: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
For me, now its the little book nook i created for myself at the foot of the stairs in the living room. I bought two new black bookcases, (one 5 shelver and one 3 shelver). The smaller one has this great lamp on it, and next to the wall, in front of the cases, I put a mushroom chair with two throw pillows... Its heaven there.

I also like to read in the tub, steaming hot water, curtain pulled over, after a particularly stressful day.

If I read in bed, I get sleepy, otherwise I would love to read there too...

message 68: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments Well, Jill, you are probably too good of a mother and unselfish beyond repair, but you could always get everyone their own portable CD player and earphones to listen to what they want. I know, it isn't the same as a family experience in reading, which is very important. I used to listen to the kid-friendly when my children were young, too. Actually, I enjoy young adult and children's lit a lot, so it wasn't really a sacrifice. It is nice, however, to be able to be completely selfish about my choices now.

Paula | 1098 comments This sounds WONDERFUL Bambi!!

message 70: by Coalbanks (new)

Coalbanks | 186 comments 80 Petra & 81 Liz: It is a nice spot, with an occassional drunk or noisy kids left on their own but that's life. Cafes are ok also but usually too much noise, music too loud or not to my liking, lighting is iffey, too many interesting converstions to eavesdrop on - not that I would!

message 71: by Coalbanks (new)

Coalbanks | 186 comments The current incarnation of this library owes a lot to B&N.

message 72: by Monica (new)

Monica (monnieh722) I have a bay window in my house. And I pull up a chair, open the blinds, and grab a bottle of water or glass of wine (whatever my mood or time of day) and read. Love the sun light! And stars!

message 73: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Even in winter?

Me Too!!!! (yes, Petra, in winter, I live in southern California :) When it's too late for natural light, I like to prop pillows on my headboard, rest my book on yet another pillow and snuggle down for a long read. I don't get sleepy reading in bed, and can't imagine falling asleep doing it!

Winter time is the BEST time of year to read with the blinds open during the day! Esp if you substitute the water or wine with hot chocolate!

message 76: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments This time and being in Dublin I like sitting on the floor against the warm radiator and my feet up against the back of the bad or contrary, against the bed and feet up against the radiator...with a cup of tea next to me or without.

message 77: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinsullivan) | 997 comments Anywhere that it is warm!! I do most of my reading during the "non summer" months (otherwise I'm biking and kayaking) I like being under a blanket with the dog near - or on my feet.

message 78: by Selena (new)

Selena (selenacurrently) I read anywhere. While walking, on the couch, in my rocking chair (I actually have one in my room!), in the car, on airplanes.

I think my favorite place is in my boyfriend's oversized chair with a blanket.

I keep books with me at all times just in case I get a chance to read a few pages.

message 79: by Gina (new)

Gina (g1n3) | 103 comments I also, read anywhere. My favorite spot, though, is this huge chair in my living room that two people could easily fit in. It's so huge and comfy I love to cuddle up in the pillows on it with my dog. I can sit there for hours!

message 80: by Liz (new)

Liz Another place I sometimes like to read is on airplanes. However, usually I am traveling between home and school and exhaustion knocks me out for nearly an entire flight. Trains can also be good IF one is in a quiet car with no teenagers on cell phones or screaming babies.
This summer I used to enjoy curling up in the mail room at work--people wouldn't really hang out in there as there was only one chair, so I could relax and enjoy a novel during an hour long lunch break.

message 81: by El (new)

El I ride a bus to and from work every day, so a good chunk of my reading time is done on the bus. I always keep a book in my bag, so I'll read when I can - sadly this evening we were just in the animal ER with one of our dogs and I hadn't grabbed my book on the way out, so the time spent waiting to hear if he was okay was truly torture (and WifeSwap on ABC is a decidedly stupid show). At home, however, I'm usually curled up on the couch with my book, or in bed. I also enjoy reading in the car on road trips - as a non-driver I have the luxury of not having too many control issues that would prevent me from enjoying those moments to read.

message 82: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I like WifeSwap. I like all mindless reality shows.

message 83: by El (new)

El Petra, it was the first time I had seen it - it was good in a mindless sense so we had something to distract us from worrying about the seizure our dog just had, but I probably couldn't watch it again. It was followed by that nanny show which I actually had seen before because my grandmother likes it. :)
