Denise Stephenson (denisestephenson) | 7 comments @Reed -- I toally agree. In fact, I think it's examining the human condition that draws me to apocolyptic and dystopian fiction.

You might like mine then. To The Survivors

I like Nuclear war ones and I'm not so keen on Aliens or Zombies with the notable exception of I Am Legend

Max Tolerance | 5 comments I tend to favor the human folly types, with a soft spot for meteors and zombies. I can only write zombies with a comedy slant though.
I also don't understand why people think The Road is ambiguous. He makes it pretty clear it was an impact from space.
Streaks of light in the sky, concussions, everything burnt then freezing, no radiation...
Meteor.

Chanda Presley | 14 comments ZOMBIES for sure! I love a good zombie movie, show or book! I may even be obsessed!

Donna (donanicole) | 108 comments I like action, female heroines are good. zombies or some kind of infection is good. Dystopian is really good. Good character development is key. Lots of danger from both infected and from evil humans. Bring it on.

R.J. Crayton (rjcrayton) | 16 comments What a great question. My first thought was my favorite apocalypse happens after I'm long gone. :) But, of course, that's not what's meant by the question. In terms of books, my favorite apocalyptic tales are ones where the characters, despite all their problems display their innate humanity. One where you see the extremes of the human condition, extreme kindness and bravery set against extreme cruelty and unyielding control.

Don't mean to spam but I think you would both like mine

To The Survivors by Philip G. Henley

An apocalypse threatens human kind. A highly infectious, lethal, genetic, virus is detected that attacks mankind and mammals. The Government must act, and whilst the authorities struggle to find a cure, they have to plan for the worst. As the disease spreads it is not clear how many will, or will not, survive, nor what the survivors will have to do to live. They will have to cope with their grief and loneliness before they can attempt to rebuild society. They will need to find water, food, shelter, and power and then face the other threats to their survival. If they survive, there may be hope for human kind. If they survive…

Rod | 7 comments I just finished Ian Daniels second book - Pillars in the Fall - and it is a big notch above all the zombie, meteor stuff. Highly recommend it if you want to stay reading in the genre but see something refreshingly new.

Petra | 21 comments Cheesecake apocalypse

message 60: by Susan (new)

Susan Kerr | 1 comments I'd like to write a novel that incorporates several disasters to create the mother of all uber-apocalypses. Take a Katrina-like hurricane, add a little pandemic disease, and then throw in a solar event that takes most of the Northern Hemisphere off-grid for a couple of years.
