change of title

Why oh why do people change the title of a book? Its bloody irritating and irrational. There is no valid reason whatsover to do it. Even if its made in to a film. Surely the people that read the book originally are going to be the primary focus group for a film? Why then would a change of title be necessary. I have read this book under the title the lollipop shoes.

And that is SUCH an appropriate title, too. Gives the book different focus, I think.

The dutch version is 'Rode Schoenen' that means 'Red Shoes' But I would have prefered a title as 'Lekstok Schoenen' or something like that because the titles are always 'sweet': Chocolat, lollipop, peaches.

Annoying isn't it. Didn't they change Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone to something else in America 'cos they thought the Americans wouldn't understand the term 'philosopher?' I mean I'm not American but how bloody insulting!
