Lina Caro’s Qs for Chapters 20 and 21

38. As she’s heading through the village to the outer bailey, Servanne notices that“These people smiled and laughed, and were not afraid to meet one another in the eye.” Do you think the villagers have any idea about what The Dragon is really like? Why is the atmosphere so happy in the village and so distrustful in the keep?

39. Lucien Wardieu, Randwulf La Seyne sur Mer and The Black Wolf were all the same person??? Anyone see that coming? Is all of this becoming too confusing or keeping you nicely intrigued?

40. The proud Servanne has been quite open about her feelings, even before she realised who he was. Is this slightly out-of-character? What did you think about the exchange of promises and the ensuing sex scene? Why do you think Lucien has been fighting his feelings so much, even now?

41. AAARRGGHHH! Just when you think Lucien might have a chance, Nicolaa goes and tells Etienne about La Seyne sur Mer. At this point, what do you think might happen in the joust?

42. That knife thing just turned me off. That goes beyond kinky to gag-fest. Comments? Do you think it’s wise of Nicolaa to give Etienne over her?

Interesting question. I wonder if it's because they know they're safer with outside witnesses around than they normally are?

39. Lucien Wardieu, Randwulf La Seyne sur Mer and The Black Wolf were all the same person??? Anyone see that coming? Is all of this becoming too confusing or keeping you nicely intrigued?
Definitely didn't see that, but now it's so obvious! I liked it, thought it was a neat little addition to the plot.

40. The proud Servanne has been quite open about her feelings, even before she realised who he was. Is this slightly out-of-character? What did you think about the exchange of promises and the ensuing sex scene? Why do you think Lucien has been fighting his feelings so much, even now?
I think it's a bit OOC, but not too much. She's very headstrong. Now, instead of tossing around insults without a thought, she's tossing out her undying love. I thought that scene was really well done. And pretty damn sexy, even with the old skool purple prose. Lucien's been cutoff from himself for so long, it's not surprising that he'd fight feeling vulnerable like this.

41. AAARRGGHHH! Just when you think Lucien might have a chance, Nicolaa goes and tells Etienne about La Seyne sur Mer. At this point, what do you think might happen in the joust?
I'm betting Servanne will find a way to get word to Lucien (possibly through Eduard) that his secret is out. At least he'll be prepared. But he can't call off the tourney. Unless Servanne and Alaric find a way to sabotage the event?

42. That knife thing just turned me off. That goes beyond kinky to gag-fest. Comments? Do you think it’s wise of Nicolaa to give Etienne over her?
These are some seriously f*cked up people. Jeeze. Nicolaa is definitely way obsessed with Etienne and I think that will be her downfall.

38. As she’s heading through the village to the outer bailey, Servanne notices that “These people smiled and laughed, and were not afraid to meet one another in the eye.” Do you think the villagers have any idea about what The Dragon is really like? Why is the atmosphere so happy in the village and so distrustful in the keep? Apparently not. Lucky for them they don't have to put up with the filth. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

39. Lucien Wardieu, Randwulf La Seyne sur Mer and The Black Wolf were all the same person??? Anyone see that coming? Is all of this becoming too confusing or keeping you nicely intrigued? Nicely intrigued! Someone, I think Lisa Kay saw this coming! Nice job, I didn't see it!

40. The proud Servanne has been quite open about her feelings, even before she realised who he was. Is this slightly out-of-character? What did you think about the exchange of promises and the ensuing sex scene? Why do you think Lucien has been fighting his feelings so much, even now? That was a little shocking to me, maybe she thought she could tell this La Seyne and he wouldn't spill the beans. And I think I finally feel connected to them as a couple now, so it was nice for me ;) Lucien has been fighting his feelings because Nicolaa did the Mexican Hat Dance on his heart and his brother betrayed him. If you can't trust your lover and your brother, who can you trust?

41. AAARRGGHHH! Just when you think Lucien might have a chance, Nicolaa goes and tells Etienne about La Seyne sur Mer. At this point, what do you think might happen in the joust? I think it'll be one helluva showdown, that's for sure. And methinks Lucien has a backup plan. He's been preparing for this for so long and Alaric is pretty smart too, they've got to have something else up their sleeve - I hope!

42. That knife thing just turned me off. That goes beyond kinky to gag-fest. Comments? Do you think it’s wise of Nicolaa to give Etienne over her? What, the knife didn't do it for ya? LOL - one thing's for certain, girl's got steel balls! They deserve each other.

I did notice the difference in the village from the castle, but I didn’t analysis it. Interesting. I figure they are clueless. Not any deficiency on their parts, other than being kept in the dark.

39. Lucien Wardieu, Randwulf La Seyne sur Mer and The Black Wolf were all the same person??? Anyone see that coming? Is all of this becoming too confusing or keeping you nicely intrigued?
**Lisa Kay waves hand in the air and yells “I did, I did!”** See my post #185, response to Q#37.

I don’t think it was out of character. I think the whole episode at Bloodmore Keep has been enlightening for her.

41. AAARRGGHHH! Just when you think Lucien might have a chance, Nicolaa goes and tells Etienne about La Seyne sur Mer. At this point, what do you think might happen in the joust?
I haven’t a clue. Maybe he’ll try to poison him beforehand. I don’t think just knowing what side he’ll attack on will be enough.

42. That knife thing just turned me off. That goes beyond kinky to gag-fest. Comments? Do you think it’s wise of Nicolaa to give Etienne over her?
LOL! Yes, a bit too kinky for me too, CaroB. I don’t think Nicolaa is that smart in this instance b/c, when someone was talking about him swatting flies earlier, I immediately thought of him and her – when he is done with her.

#38 – Now that is an interesting hypothesis. I think you might have something there, Sans!

#40 – Yes, I think you are right. I don’t think the term “metro-sexual” had been coined in 1991, when this book was written.

#41 – Really?! I figured her tripping over those swords gave away her position. Still, I guess she could get a message to Lucien via Eduard.

#39. I may have seen it coming, but I couldn’t figure out why Etienne would suddenly want Servanne when he hadn’t even noticed her b/f… until you pointed out that Etienne always coveted what his brother “had”.

#40 – Really! Who can you trust?

#41 – Good Gravy Beans, I hope he has a contingency plan. (I used the word “contingency” – can you tell I watched too many episode in a row of Leverage last night?)

#42 – Yes, she does. Think they are of the larger size? LOL!

Shelly (shellye77) LOL! No, Lisa Kay, the English are not the only ones who can use that word, in fact, the word knickerbocker means "descendant of Dutch settlers of New York," 1831, from Diedrich Knickerbocker, the name under which Washington Irving published his popular "History of New York" (1809). The pen-name was borrowed from Irving's friend Herman Knickerbocker, and lit. means "toy marble-baker." - I love the word knicker! Here's the website I found it at. And sometimes even say KNICKERS TO YOU!

43. So now Etienne knows it's Lucien he will be fighting/jousting, do you think just knowing who your opponent is would be enough to tips the scales in your favor, or just even the playing field?

44. Poor Eduard! Kid just can't catch a break! Will he be loyal to Etienne? Do you buy the 'wenching it up with the maid' excuse? Was he perhaps, elsewhere? Plotting? Ideas?

45. Did you catch the sneakers into the tourney? (view spoiler) How many do you think managed to sneak in? Will it be enough?

46. Eduard told Sir Roger de Chesnai of the situation! Do you think that was wise? Will de Chesnai get word to Lucien in time? Or was he the one who ratted out Eduard and Servanne, causing them to be caught red-handed (chamber door open, the idiots) scheming to leave?

47. Now what!!! Da-da dum! Will the Lady Servanne and the young squire be spared? Is the knight de Chesnai on the side of good, or evil? Who is going to save them? Does Nicolaa, in fact have balls of steel? (This feels like a soap opera almost) Tune in next chapter to find out! Speculations?

43. So now Etienne knows it's Lucien he will be fighting/jousting, do you think just knowing who your opponent is would be enough to tips the scales in your favor, or just even the playing field?
I think knowing your opponent helps. So does knowing that your opponent knows. LOL! Does that make sense? It could hurt the real Lucien to not know that Etienne now knows who he is (a brother whom he hates with a passion) and that he strikes from the left and won’t be surprised.

44. Poor Eduard! Kid just can't catch a break! Will he be loyal to Etienne? Do you buy the 'wenching it up with the maid' excuse? Was he perhaps, elsewhere? Plotting? Ideas?
Really! That was a lot to take in for a 13 year-old kid. I sure hope Glyneth has the brains and loyalty to back up his story, if he wasn’t with her that is.

45. Did you catch the sneakers into the tourney? (view spoiler)
That was fun, trying to figure out who could be the sneakers… We’ll see! Hopefully enough will get in.

I don’t know! I kind of stumbled over that one. It will be a surprise to me. I’ve wondered at his loyalty or ability to be swayed to the truth from the beginning. I hope it wasn’t him that leaked the info, but it is a good possibility.

47. Now what!!! Da-da dum! Will the Lady Servanne and the young squire be spared? Is the knight de Chesnai on the side of good, or evil? Who is going to save them? Does Nicolaa, in fact have balls of steel? (This feels like a soap opera almost.) Tune in next chapter to find out! Speculations?
I don’t know about de Chesnai. Or who will save them. But isn’t Servanne in a yellow gown and wasn’t that the color of her dress in the prologue? Gosh, I can’t remember. Your questions have a nice “Stay Tuned/Soap Opera” feel to them; well done! Yes, Nicolaa has BOS. And she is ubiquitous too – she’s in almost every scene! She must be sleeping with the director, LOL!

Great questions, Shelly!

45. I get the impression that maybe most of the people she was describing were in on it, at least I'm hoping!

46. I have too! I don't have high hopes for his character, though.

Shelly's Answers for Questions for Chapters 22 & 23

43. So now Etienne knows it's Lucien he will be fighting/jousting, do you think just knowing who your opponent is would be enough to tips the scales in your favor, or just even the playing field? I think it'll tip the scales in the beginning to Etienne, and then he'll open his big mouth, threatening Servanne and then Lucien will know, and the the battle will be on!

44. Poor Eduard! Kid just can't catch a break! Will he be loyal to Etienne? Do you buy the 'wenching it up with the maid' excuse? Was he perhaps, elsewhere? Plotting? Ideas? I think he went to see his father! I definitely don't buy the maid excuse, at all. He was too upset for that. I think they had worked out a plan to get Servanne out, until that was no longer an option.

45. Did you catch the sneakers into the tourney? (view spoiler) How many do you think managed to sneak in? Will it be enough? That was so awesome! I really enjoyed that part! I hope it's enough, but we'll see!

46. Eduard told Sir Roger de Chesnai of the situation! Do you think that was wise? Will de Chesnai get word to Lucien in time? Or was he the one who ratted out Eduard and Servanne, causing them to be caught red-handed (chamber door open, the idiots) scheming to leave?I'm gonna go with worst case scenario, de Chesnai ratted them out. But I have a little hope he'll switch sides or good will prevail in his heart, or something. I'll make a prediction, he was the bad guy, but dies to save the others! How about that!

47. Now what!!! Da-da dum! Will the Lady Servanne and the young squire be spared? Is the knight de Chesnai on the side of good, or evil? Who is going to save them? Does Nicolaa, in fact have balls of steel? (This feels like a soap opera almost) Tune in next chapter to find out! Speculations? I was wondering if anyone else caught on to the fact Servanne is wearing yellow, the color she's wearing in the beginning while trapped! I think she's locked up, Etienne makes Eduard perform his squirely duties, somehow Lucien figures it out and rescues her! Oh and Nicolaa dies first, at Gil's hands. Poor Gil has got to get her revenge on!

43. So now Etienne knows it's Lucien he will be fighting/jousting, do you think just knowing who your opponent is would be enough to tips the scales in your favor, or just even the playing field?

I have to wonder if the rage will make Etienne a better fighter or more reckless. I don't know!

44. Poor Eduard! Kid just can't catch a break! Will he be loyal to Etienne? Do you buy the 'wenching it up with the maid' excuse? Was he perhaps, elsewhere? Plotting? Ideas?
I think he's basically pledged himself to Servanne at this point, Etienne can go hang himself. I wonder if the maid's story was suspicious, since Etienne showed up at Servanne's door!

45. Did you catch the sneakers into the tourney? (view spoiler) How many do you think managed to sneak in? Will it be enough?
Yep! I think between the knights Lucien brought from Brittany and his band of locals, it will cause enough confusion for them to get away.

I've got some doubts. I think maybe de Chesnai did tip Etienne off. I was wondering why no one shut the door myself. ~_~

47. Now what!!! Da-da dum! Will the Lady Servanne and the young squire be spared? Is the knight de Chesnai on the side of good, or evil? Who is going to save them? Does Nicolaa, in fact have balls of steel? (This feels like a soap opera almost) Tune in next chapter to find out! Speculations?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 24 & 25

#48 – Eek! I was thinking Nicolaa was slightly sicker than the Dragon, but it looks to me as if they are evenly matched. He is one sadistic SOB; guess he’s the Big Fuc#er, right? Servanne is battered and bruised and Eduard is in worse shape. Think they both will make it?

#49 – What is happening to Biddy? Is the Old Blister having a heart attack or stroke? What was all that about being dazzled by Servanne’s treasure box? Will she make it in time to tell the Wolf, or will Sparrow find her? All her info he already seems to know, right; or is there something else? Or, maybe about Eduard, but I’m not sure she got that he is the Wolf’s son.

#50 – Stupid question, but do you trust the Dragon to keep his word and not order an arrow in the Wolf’s back, plus give back Servanne should he win?

#51 – Were you surprised both Prince John and the Dragon let the little princess go, or did it make sense that neither wanted a war on their hands?

#52 – Is the Wolf’s mind sufficiently on the challenge at hand to win the day? With regards to Guy de Gisbourne, will he “mark him well anyway if there is trouble” as Sparrow warns?

#44 – Ah, yes, the maid’s believability. Maybe that is what brought Etienne to Servanne’s door.

#45 – Now we know he sent the knights from Brittany with the little princess. Think he will still have enough?

#46 – LOL! Good point. For goodness sakes, shut the !#%&&% door!

Shelly (shellye77) Questions for Chapters 24 & 25

Of course! They are suppose to get their HEA, it's law, isn't it?

#49 – What is happening to Biddy? Is the Old Blister having a heart attack or stroke? What was all that about being dazzled by Servanne’s treasure box? Will she make it in time to tell the Wolf, or will Sparrow find her? All her info he already seems to know, right; or is there something else? Or, maybe about Eduard, but I’m not sure she got that he is the Wolf’s son. I think Biddy is having a heart attack, swelling of the tongue, tingling in her arm, difficulty breathing, all classic signs. She at least heard where Servanne will be held, so that's info she can pass on. As for the jewel box, I found that odd too, but it was just to remind her of her 'lamb' and to focus so she can save Servanne? IDK

#50 – Stupid question, but do you trust the Dragon to keep his word and not order an arrow in the Wolf’s back, plus give back Servanne should he win? No arrow to the back, Etienne is sick enough to want to see Lucien suffer, so he'll try to keep him alive, but in pain. He'll never give Servanne back, he's not honest at all, just evil.

#51 – Were you surprised both Prince John and the Dragon let the little princess go, or did it make sense that neither wanted a war on their hands? Nah, I think they both thought the princess wasn't worth it. Plus Etienne wants to make Lucien suffer, and even though he adores the princess, he can do more harm by hurting Servanne, and possibly get away with it. The Queen is looking for the princess, not Servanne. I think, he thinks he can still get away with the rouse.

#52 – Is the Wolf’s mind sufficiently on the challenge at hand to win the day? With regards to Guy de Gisbourne, will he “mark him well anyway if there is trouble” as Sparrow warns? His mind cannot be focused entirely on the challenge, and if it is, he's not a man in love! As for the Guy de Gisbourne, I'm not sure I got all that, I may need to re-read, as it was late when I read last night and details were fuzzy.

43. So now Etienne knows it's Lucien he will be fighting/jousting, do you think just knowing who your opponent is would be enough to tips the scales in your favor, or just even the playing field? I think it may tip the scales if Etienne has the history of practising and knowing Lucien’s weaknesses. Also, Lucien will be surprised that Etienne is prepared for him.

44. Poor Eduard! Kid just can't catch a break! Will he be loyal to Etienne? Do you buy the 'wenching it up with the maid' excuse? Was he perhaps, elsewhere? Plotting? Ideas? I’m thinking it was just an excuse.

Or was he the one who ratted out Eduard and Servanne, causing them to be caught red-handed (chamber door open, the idiots) scheming to leave? Why do people not close doors!!? I’m not convinced that de Chesnai will protect Servanne against Etienne, let alone contact Lucien for support.

Servanne is battered and bruised and Eduard is in worse shape. Think they both will make it? From the prologue, Servanne makes it, truly hopes Eduard lives to fight another day.

#45 – LOL! No skimming the prose.

#46 – Really. De Chesnai is the one of the little mysteries in the book.

#47 – Yes, da-da-dum! Shelly’s cute, isn’t she?

#49 – Geeze, I hadn’t thought of her “current condition” – great nurse that I am, LOL!

#50 – Mind Meld. I don’t trust him & he’s scum.

#51 – Another MM! I was wondering if the “little princess” would have her own book too!

Shelly (shellye77) @ CaroB

45 - I almost missed it myself, but the words twins and cherub stuck out and I had to re-read! Then I began to look for others. So glad I wasn't the only one who missed, or nearly missed it!

47 - *blushes shyly* Why thank you!

Lina Hey I just got an email from GR that told me what was in the comment here, as well as the link!! I've never had that before :-)

message 244: by Shelly (new)

Shelly (shellye77) Really? My emails have always had the link, hmmm.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments CaroB, I notice that. I think it has something to do with changing to "email all".

Shelly I think she means it doesn't say it is from a certain person, it says the name of this thread. And you can read what the person said without having to come to this site to see.

message 246: by Lina (new)

Lina That's it exactly Lisa Kay!
I've always gotten the link, but couldn't read the actual comment from the email before, always had to come to GR and check out the thread. This seems to be the only thread in which that happens in, so I'd say you're right about the "following" edit.

Sans Again, posting from my mobile, forgive mistakes, etc.

Questions for chapter 26 - 27

53. Are you f*ucking kidding me? Tell me Lucien did NOT just get a massive case of the stupids. Why didn't he just kill Etienne when he had the damn opportunity?!

54. Lucien now knows he's a daddy. Obviously there isn't time for a tender Hallmark moment, but how do you think they'll get on after the baddies get dead?

55. That prison break was an epic c*ck up. Were you surprised how poorly it went? How about the level of violence and body count of good guys? Is this really even a romance at this point?

chirurgeon: an archaic word for surgeon

Lisa Kay Answers Sans’ Questions for Chapter 26 – 27

I know. It was not his compassion that got me; it was the fact that he was stupid enough to turn his back.

54. Lucien now knows he's a daddy. Obviously there isn't time for a tender Hallmark moment, but how do you think they'll get on after the baddies get dead?
I'm worried the poor kid will even make it. After all that death and destruction?

55. That prison break was an epic c*ck up. Were you surprised how poorly it went? How about the level of violence and body count of good guys? Is this really even a romance at this point?
I was surprised at how it played out. High on both the V & BC, something I’ve had enough of with A Song of Fire and Ice. The sicko in that series filed his teeth to sharp points too. I didn’t want Mutter and Sutter to die. I can’t fault her writing; nonetheless, MC has written better outcomes to her action scenes. It was a pretty brutal time, is all I can say. However, I could do with a bit more romance.
