J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Thank you Amy!!

That's the Family Saga list (!) -at the moment it's up to 22 in thegeneral list UK Kindle Bookstore's Free eBooks list so am very excited.

I swear, since 10am Thursday it's been downloaded NINE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR times - and it was at 886 before we sat down for dinner tonight! No idea how long it will continue to be free for but hopefully that will get the word out about bk2 better than I ever could have done...

If I was getting paid for any of these I'd be ordering in the champagne - as is, I'm telling everyone I can think of whilst trying to get that damn short story formatted while ODS is still in the spotlight!!

Cool though - even if only ten people out of every hundred downloads read it, that'd still be WAY cool!

SO random. No idea why it's free unless they're price-matching - but am going to ask them where they found it free as only thing I can think of is that it must have been pirated somewhere.

Ah well, that's made my day and no mistake!

message 36: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Tarn (barbaragtarn) OK, I don't want to break the bubble here... I mean, congrats for the deal, but... I found out that free reads don't really bring in paying readers.
I have many free reads (not on Amazon, because they haven't figured out that my novella is free elsewhere, including Barnes&Nobles, haha) and if I had actually sold those, I'd have over 2000 new readers. Except they don't buy the other titles.
So either I suck (and you don't, so you've just earned yourself new readers! ;-)) or there are two kinds of readers: the ones that go only for freebies, and the real ones that stick around and buy anything you put out.
But that's only my experience of six months, so maybe it's just me!
Best of luck for your book! :-D

Well, personally, I'll grab a lot of freebies if they look interesting ... that said, once I've read it and if I like it, I'll go back out and buy the other books from an author; but keep in mind that sometimes it takes awhile for a person to get to all these books ... I've downloaded literally THOUSANDS of ebooks over the past year or so ... some of them I'm quite interested in reading, but I have a lot of read/reviews I need to get through.

message 40: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Oh bugger. I mailed them to ask if they were pricematching somewhere and if so where, and they went "WHOOOPS!" and knocked it back up to full-price. And to add insult to injury, they've dropped it by 16k places because it hasn't "sold" anything in the past week!!
How rude!

Still, it was fun while it lasted and am still much more widely seen for being in the top 10, so I'm sad it stopped but well chuffed that it ran to a total of 3887 copies while it was free!

Barbara, I'm quite sure you're right but just for the publicity I'm pleased.

....and now I'm a little less hurried and stressed about getting the next one out, so it's all good.
Back to the day-job, alas!

I guess Katy is right too... but it's frustrating for an author seeing thousands of downloads and not one review! :-(
Anyway, hopefully those readers will get back to us, eventually...

message 43: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 603 comments Keep your chin up, Barbara - there are more "mes" than you would think ... LOL I know I downloaded a book a few days ago and, since it was a short, took a break from editing to eat and read it while I was doing so; I was really impressed, immediately wrote a review and posted it all over the place AND wrote to the author to tell him how much I liked it. So, there's sure to be a "me" for you out there - just give it time! (BTW, it was "Stain of Mind," a horror short told from the mind of a serial killer - pretty cool. Link: Stain of Mind - a short story It was free on Amazon - it is the only one of its type he's written, but he has several thrillers that look good and on which I have my eye for next time I have a bit of jingle-jangle burning a hole in my pocket LOL)

How funny...!
Done the cover for my short story - now if I can just get a bit of sneaky editing in, I might get it online before too long!

That is AWESOME!!! WOOT!!

Now 'chuffed' would be the perfect word to use in this situation, right? HAHAHA!!

message 47: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments I think that merits a "dead chuffed" and in extreme cases of flabbergasted delight, possibly even "chuffed to buggery".

Metaphorical use, of course!!
heheheh

Oh dear I should have been in bed three hours ago. If I go RIGHT now, I may get3 hours sleep, assuming I go straight to sleep for once (highly unlikely, usually takes an hour). Tomorrow is going to be a looooooooooooong day!
