How many pulitzer prize books have you read?
date
newest »

I have only read three. But I want to make it a goal to read them all.
I would like to read them all too! I think it could be done in about 5 years if you read a book a month but I didn't do the math.

Silver: I think your in the lead! Yeah. I do beleive that most of the Pulitzer Prize books are on the 1001 books to read before you die. I will hopefully read all the books on both lists!

Edith Wharton The Age of Innocence
Pearl S. Buck The Good Earth
Margaret Mitchell Gone with the Wind
John Steinbeck The Grapes of Wrath
Harper Lee To Kill a Mockingbird
Marilynne Robinson Gilead
My favorites are The Good Earth and Gilead.

A Thousand Acres
Beloved
Lonesome Dove
The Fixer
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Old Man and the Sea
Grapes of Wrath
Of those, my faves are TKaM and Lonesome Dove and Martin Dressler

Shipping News
Beloved
TKaM
Grapes of Wrath
The Good Earth
Of these, the last three were amazing. Not enough people read The Good Earth. I hated The Shipping News and Beloved. And I always feel like I am supposed to love and obsess over Beloved because I majored in English. Well, I don't. I hate it.
I could not get through Gilead. (yawn)
I could not get through Foreign Affairs.
I got halfway through Gone with the Wind, and I don't know what happened. I really liked it. It's still a mystery to me why I never finished it. I liked the book better than the movie. Scarlett was a much more likable character, in my opinion, in the book.
I am currently reading the short stories of John Cheever. I am 3 in and I like it.
I really want to read Lonesome Dove. That is going to be a winter read for me.

Second, I am not bad with math, so should I start in Jan 09 to read the books from the list I would be done in March 2017!!! No way that I will ever read through that list.

To Kill a Mockingbird
Grapes of Wrath
The Good Earth
The Color Purple
The Yearling
The Old Man and the Sea
Stef: My TBR list will keep me busy til I'm 84 or older. My life expectancy is 84 so I hope I can read all the books including the books on the Pulitzer prize list.
I love "Mount TBR" Kellie.
I love "Mount TBR" Kellie.

But like Emilee, I think I'll get to read a lot of them by trying to read through the 1001 list ...

Gilead
The Known World
Empire Falls
Interpreter of Maladies
The Stone Diaries
A Thousand Acres
Breathing Lessons
The Color Purple
The Optimists' Daughter
To Kill A Mockingbird
I've liked them all; The Known World is a little troubling though.

I want to read Andersonville. I had a Great Great Great Grandfather literally get off the boat from England and enlist in the Union. He was one of the first soidlers that was captured and taken to Andersonville. He died 6 months after Andersonville opened.

I need to go pick it up. I think I would like it. So many other people have recommended it too me!
I think I could handle the trouble. My Grandfather had caught almost every disease known to man while he was there. I can't imagine the horror he lived up to his death.
I am going to get it! I should read it right away too!
I am going to get it! I should read it right away too!

Thank you Ken. I really want to read a lot of nonfiction about Civil war especially Andersonville.

I had found nominations for 2007 somewhere but couldn't see if they posted the winners. I think they would be doing 2008 now. I could be wrong.

A Confederacy of Dunces
The Killer Angels
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Old Man and the Sea
The Caine Mutiny
The Grapes of Wrath
Gone With the Wind

The Stone Diaries
The Shipping News
A 1000 Acres
The Color Purple
The Grapes of Wrath
The Good Earth
And all without realizing that they had won anything. I enjoyed them all but of that bunch the 1000 acres would be my least favourite.

Carol Shields The Stone Diaries
E. Annie Proulx The Shipping News
Jane Smiley A Thousand Acres
Alice Walker The Color Purple
Ernest Hemingway The Old Man and the Sea
Herman Wouk The Caine Mutiny
Pearl S. Buck The Good Earth
Thornton Wilder The Bridge of San Luis Rey
not bad for someone on the wrong side of the pond :) I haven't ever set out to read a book specifically because it won the Pulitzer (or any prize for that matter).
The only ones of those I really loved and would read again are 1000 Acres and The Shipping News (I love Proulx's work!). Given my tastes I should have liked The Stone Diaries, but I didn't.
2005 Marilynne Robinson Gilead--Tried and tried, but I didn't like it.
