I'm still getting used to Goodreads, but there are some great groups - this looks like one of them! :D
My name is Trish...I am married, with two kids, and a handful of pets. :) I published my first book this past June...I Hope You Find Me and I'm working on a seperate project (it's being edited) as well as the follow up to my first book.
I feel blessed to be busy with writing - it's something I put off for years. Now, it's like I can't stop!
I'm also an avid reader, and meet in a monthly book club with a group of friends...so our book choice is always a different author/genre, which is fun. :)
Anyway, hope to get to know some of you - have a great week!! :D
-----I should have read some of the posts before posting myself! Just a quick add - I'm self published as well, and just got my first proof copy from CreateSpace and LOVED IT. Tho I had to tweak the margins (their specs were way off IMO) and changed the author pic. I know a few have already ordered the updated version and it's cool to know my book will soon be sitting on someone's shelf! :D

As far as what I'm hoping to get from the group, well, there are a lot of people here who know more than I do. And, over time, there may be some people I can help as well.

GREAT Review of CreateSpace. It is very thorough and well done.

I started writing short stories and poetry when I was a little girl and have always had an active imagination. I started reading Historical Romance novels when I was 15, then last year I combined my two passions and began writing romance myself.
I began writing my first novel, Love's Misadventure, in November of 2011, and finished in January of this year. I sent several query letters out to several publishers, but all replied with "we have too many clients" or other general rejection letters. So I decided to self publish!
I self-published through Amazon.com, where I created my cover and did additional editing. I had a beta reader help me through some issues I was having.
Once I was published through Amazon.com (print-on-demand), I published through Kindle, then found a website called eBookIt, where I also published. They sent my work to Sony, B&N, Google eBooks, iTunes, and soon to be Kobo.
I'm over half way through writing the second novel in the series (a 4 book series, called the Mason Siblings series). I have also plotted out several other novels.
If you wish to learn more about me, feel free to visit my website; www.cherichampagne.com.
It's nice to meet you all!

Had a lot of fun this year, putting my first novel out there! I recommend it to anyone who's thinking of trying it.

@John: What genre of novel did you write?

My novel's a blend of literary fiction and thriller I'm told, "literary thriller" some have called it.

It's The Survival of Thomas Ford

Links on my website there.
Glad you like the sound of it, thanks!

I found The Survival of Thomas Ford on Amazon. I think I'll download it after I finish what I'm currently reading. The premise looks outside what I normally read so I'm excited to expand my horizons and try something new!

I'm an English author writing (with my best friend) as The Lazuli Portals. Our first novel was self-published in January, and we're now working on the sequel.
We've published on Kindle and in paperback (via Completely Novel) but have not yet tackled Smashwords and the US tax system issue. ;-)
Happy to be here, and happy to make new friends (please just send me a request if you think we'll get along well!)
As I have CFS/ME and my energy is often very low, I am limited as to how long I can spend online so please allow for some delayed responses. ;-)

What a fantastic group, there are a lot of great threads and some really useful information here, I wish I had found it sooner. I'm a novice short story self published ebook writer from London, UK with a focus on contemporary drama. I'm really looking forward to learning and developing as a writer, as an indie publisher and being part of the goodreads community. My website is has links to all the major social media platforms and I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can:

I've been a member of this group for a a while but realized I've not introduced myself so here goes.
I'm Michael J. Sullivan and I'm a kind of self-publishing evangelist, as it transformed my writing career. For those that don't know me I write fantasy and my Riyria Revelations series:

Was originally self-published before I sold it (six-figure contract with Hachette Book group) and they re-released it.

I've made a couple of notable self-published lists including, The Most Successful Self-Published Sci-Fi and Fantasy Authors as well as Self-Publishing Success Stories (for authors who have sold more than 70,000 books through self-publishing.
I'm hoping to learn and share what has worked with me with others here.
P.S. I'm going to be hosing an author Q&A from October 8 - 15 and one of the major areas will be devoted to self-publishing and book marketing. Please feel free to join the group at any time and ask questions, although I'll only be answering them during the official open dates.
Here is the group's link

I'm David, (pen name D. E. M. Emrys) but you can all call me D. :D
I'm a serving soldier by day, serving soldier by night, and self published author by night.
I grew up with the heroic-fantasy tales from authors such as James Barclay and David Gemmell. After my father passed away when I was 16, I picked up pen and paper to leave a legacy in his name.
I live where the army sends me, but home is in Chelmsford with my girlfriend. They say that behind every great man there is a woman pulling the strings, but she lets me dance to my own song whilst being the perfect partner in step. My books would not have been written without her.
My first ebook 'From Man to Man' was released on amazon and smashwords, and although I am new to self publishing scene I'm thoroughly enjoying myself!
And....that's me! :D

* NO SELF-PROMOTION HERE"
My name is JoAnna Santanen. I've published 2 books through Smashwords and Amazon/Createspace in the last month (manuscripts I finished previously). I have been working on getting my books published for years, and it was a tough decision to go ahead with indie publishing. I like the control it provides me in terms of book covers and editing, but the self-promotion aspect is difficult. I am excited to learn more about the world of self-publishing and how to promote my work through personal connections using social media and goodreads (amongst other sites).

Hello...
My name is Pat Gaston and I live in Georgia. As of this date, I have one book of poetry that I self-published and have written one non-fiction Christian book that I tried to shop around to different publishers. But it is rather cutting edge so I was turned down several times. I now am following the advice of a friend and am writing a fiction novel that is still about "church" but is NOT what you might think!
I am a minister but not startchy and tight. I have seen so much in the church and want people to know it doesn't have to be dead, dry, and dull. I am a retired Language Arts teacher and love to write. This self- publishing venue is a brand new territory for me. I know very little. But I feel that if I am going to get my work out there this is going to be my best way to get it done. I am looking forward to all this group has to offer!

I've just finished writing, and am polishing the manuscripts of, 2 fantasy novels (in a series) while on a break from medical school; I have 2 years to go. Sadly, the ability to discuss writing has been missing from my life for quite a while, both because of a lack of time, and very few fellow writers, in med school.

I've tossed a few works into the grinder at an E-book self-publishing site.
I'm always looking to improve my works.
