I a new to the group. I love the outlander series. But now I am having a VERY hard time finding another series that I can REALY get into. I read the Into the wilderness series and loved that one as well. I love huge series just like them and I can't seem to do it. Can anyone recommend a similar series.

another series i see recommended is by Paullina Simmons - starts with The Bronze Horseman - I haven't read it so can't really compareI just read the first book in the Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey - full on fantasy but I loved it - and they are long - the first one is like 1000 pages and there are 9 books out right now - one major series, but broken up into 3 trilogies
If you like historical, besides TBH Dee recommended, you may also like The Tea Rose and Into the Wilderness as well.
Well, if you like Urban Fantasy Richelle Mead's Succubus series is amazing!!! Absolutely LOVE the characters. They feel like friends and family. The author has a very distinct "voice." She's quite witty and very funny and makes her characters down to earth and easy to relate to. There are 6 books in the series and the last one comes out on Tuesday. I also like her Storm Born series that isn't finished yet. Her Vampire Academy series was good YA lit. Grittier than Twilight.
Check her out! I highly recommend her.
Did you read Bloodlines yet, Jen?Another of my favorite Urban Fantasy series is the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.
But if you like Historical fiction, then I always recommend Clan of the Cave Bear.

I agree, Wendy, Clan of the Cave Bear is another great historical series!
For anyone who likes historical fiction you should really try Dorothy Dunnett. She wrote two series, one called The Lymond Chronicles and one called Niccolo Rising. They are both wonderful. The level of her writing rivals Diana's. Her books have a lot more history but there's also romance in both of the series. She writes characters that you can't forget. I would suggest the Lymond books first. The first one is called The Game of KingsAt first her style is a little difficult but it's well worth sticking with it. By the second or third book you'll be madly in love with Lymond. I read them the first time while waiting for an Outlander book and it was a great way to make the time go by.
I highly recommend The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. Great love story that will break your heart, make you laugh and cry, be happy and sad. Very historically accurate, too, which is always a plus for me as a reader. The Tea Rose, too. As previously mentioned.
I second that about the Fever books. I love those as much as the Outlander, Night Huntress and Sookie Stackhouse books. I haven't read the other suggestions but they sound good. That is so right, not enough time! haha
I second the Wilderness Series by Sara Donati...
I also loved
and then the next book
. I also read
and
they were very good but man i cried.
Ok...how do you get the book icons in the comments? I know I saw the guide somewhere, but I can't find it now.
if you go above the text book where it says add book/author - find the book you are looking for and at the bottom, there is a radiobutton that says link or cover - select cover and voila
Thanks, Dee! :) It's hard to find ones that match the brilliance that is Outlander, but I'm quite the fan of the de Piaget series by Lynn Kurland. Some deal with time travel. The early ones are the best. Some of the later books are a little silly to me.
Try
and
. They are my absolute favorites. Also,
and
I agree with Leea. I love
. I've yet to read the rest of Kathleen Given books .. but just the matter of time. They are on my TBR.
I'd say the "Into the wilderness" saga by Sara Donati (and there's a small surprise for Outlander fans in there!
I have read the both the "Into the wilderness" saga, Sara Donati, great, and the "Bronze Horse Men", Paullina Simons, but I also like SUSAN CARROL, her series starts with "The Courtesan" and has about 4 books about a family of witches in the 1800's. Another favorite is ARIANA FRANKLIN and her "Mistress in the Art of Death" series about basically a woman doctor/coroner in the middle ages. If you like supernatural Kelly Armstrong is great with Women of the Otherworld.
My latest favourite is Kaki Warner. She's a terrific writer and won the RWA Rita for Best First Book in 2010. Penelope Williamson's books are gorgeous, sweeping epics.
And if I may, my debut novel is coming out in January. I wrote "Under the Same Sky" while I was reading Diana's books (for the fourth or fifth time!). I always get a bit lonely without a Jamie fix, so I wrote my own and Berkley/Penguin US is publishing it in January. The second novel, "Sound of the Heart" will be out in May 2012. I've actually had a few readers compare my books to Diana's, which is a total thrill. I hope you'll take a look, maybe preorder. :)
I've just come across the Tea Rose, The Winter Rose and The Wild Rose this week. Great series. Into The Wilderness series is one of my all time favs. I read the last book in the series and had to start it all over again since I wasn't ready to let the Bonner Family go.Wan "Artemis", the Dark-Hunters' Goddess wrote: "If you like historical, besides TBH Dee recommended, you may also like The Tea Rose and Into the Wilderness as well."
