Mimi i can understand how some ppl can have really strong feelings about how they hate the movie, but personally I just felt like it was an incredibly condensed version of the book. I watched the movie first, without having any idea what it was about, and I KNEW there was stuff missing, which was kind of weird. The movie was, obviously, not nearly as good as the book, but watchable for some pure enjoyment, if you think about it like it's unattached to the book.

Przemek Yes I meant FX (sorry for this confusion).

Przemek Marilyn wrote: "i can understand how some ppl can have really strong feelings about how they hate the movie, but personally I just felt like it was an incredibly condensed version of the book. I watched the movie ..."

Do not like movies ala "Power Rangers". I need immersion (richness in multiple "dimensions" -> characters, world, plot, etc.). Book have delivered it, movie not.

Come one good Eragorn book should be such success as Lords of The Rings.

Come one Eragorn movie sliced into short episodes and turned on TV would be acceptable. It just someone got crazy idea to put it in cinemas instead.

So right. Agreed

message 110: by James (new) - rated it 4 stars

James My main issues, watching it not expecting it to be like the book: 1, overuse of lines. *coughiexpectedmorewellmorecough* 2, kind of wooden acting. On the parts of it being like the book, I could go on for hours, but one major issue was that they left out several characters that pretty much made it impossible to make a sequel. Although I do think they did a better job than M. Night Shamamalama or whatever his name is did to ATLA. I mean, they left out one of the LIs!

Whitney Yes I know. They totally ruined the series. Now people think that the book is as lame as the movie, when it really is a good book. There are a lot of good words and descriptions. Did you know that Christopher Paolini was only 15 when he started writing this book? He was homeschooled his whole life. And that he did a home publishing. His family did all the work to promote his books. He went through a lot more work than most authors nowadays.

Clara did you know that he dressed up in a medieval costume to promote Eragon???

Michael Clara wrote: "did you know that he dressed up in a medieval costume to promote Eragon???"

Really? That's so cool! I would have dressed up as a dragon, but... I have to look this up on the YouTubes!!

message 114: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara well he went to a high school for the first time dressed up like that... eeeeek.

Michael I found it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHqZb3... I think he looks alright! It takes courage to do something like that anyway.

Garrison the movie was really bad
it barley related to the novel

Safiyyah Garrison wrote: "the movie was really bad

it's barely* -_-
and yea I guess the producers didn't read the book as well as they should have before basing a whole movie on the synopsis of the book....:/

message 118: by Tyler (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tyler True i agree. terrible. no good book should be made into a movie. too bad if youre too lazy to sit down and read.

Safiyyah Like the Harry Potter series were brilliant because they were scripted as close to the book as possible...there are, undoubtly, some changes, but the effort the producers and directors went to follow the book in the major aspects really shows...and i believe thats the greatest appeal of the movies(:

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

Movie versions always suck. This is one of those weird cases where all the actors were great but the story and the rest of it was very meh. I think I would've liked it all right if I hadn't read the books first. Also Murtagh and Arya were basically switched around in terms of screen time...

message 121: by Bex (new) - rated it 4 stars

Bex i watched the movie first and after reading the book i dont think i'll be able to watch it again. although i enjoyed it and it got me reading the book for me it was missing too much that i enjoyed about the book, i feel like the movie is better suited to thoes too young to read the book yet to give them a taste. my nine year old liked the film but the book is too much for him to take on, yet, something for him to look forward to ;0) looking forward to reading the next one and a remake would certainly be worth a watch, i agree that Jeremy Irons should be kept but the rest wouldnt hurt to have a lil make-over ;0)

message 122: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!! the new book is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Wrathofgaia The movie was OK, but the books were WAY better, like, 99 percent better.

message 124: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara 100% better in my opinion

no. i just read fast... my older brother threatened to kill (in a nice kidding older brother way!) me since i finished the book before him. (he's in college)

Michael Clara wrote: "no. i just read fast... my older brother threatened to kill (in a nice kidding older brother way!) me since i finished the book before him. (he's in college)"

School is a good excuse for not having finished at top speed. I remember it took me 2 or 3 days to finish 'Eragon' the first time during school days. I really want to finish reading the new book now!

message 131: by Tina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tina The movie was good but they didn't follow the story that well. Some parts aren't there and it ends with first couple of chapters from second book when he goes to the elfs. I love Eragon so I can watch movie many times but I would like new movie about this series.

message 132: by Erin (new) - added it

Erin Maire I still can't believe what a horrible job they did with the movie. I think out of all the movies that have been made from books, that was the most horrible one ever!!!

message 133: by Justin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Justin The movie was 1394819384 shorter than I thought it would have been, and missed a lot of important things.

message 134: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara Totally and LOL get this I was watching this with my brothers and my older brother and I were pointing out all the things that were wrong and my lil brother kept yelling at us saying "CANT YOU JUST ENJOY THE MOVIE IN SILENCE!!" my older brother and I of course looked at him liked he was crazy (he hasn't read the books. Tut tut!) and went back to pointing out all the wrong things... After a while my lil brother stormed out of the room

Michael Clara wrote: "Totally and LOL get this I was watching this with my brothers and my older brother and I were pointing out all the things that were wrong and my lil brother kept yelling at us saying "CANT YOU JUST..."

You guys are so cruel to him! My father never read the book, so when he went to go see the movie, he really liked it. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I wanted to walk out.

message 136: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara We are not cruel... He couldn't handle the truth!

message 137: by Tina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tina They must remake the first movie if they want to make 2nd,3rd and 4th book as a movie.

message 138: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara Tina wrote: "They must remake the first movie if they want to make 2nd,3rd and 4th book as a movie."

they will cuz there was NO Katrina, they messed up Angela, and there was NO Solembum!!!!!!!!

Stephanie Because the movie was so different my mom thought we were in the wrong room.

message 140: by [deleted user] (new)

They cut down on about EVERYTHING in the middle of the story just to take the small main parts in. It is really horribly made. They could have done it so much better by taking in more parts of the book that were important then just focusing on the main thing like "dragon rider" and "war"... In my opinion, if they want it to be a movie, they should remake it, because the movie Eragon is just unacceptable.

message 141: by Clara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Clara my older brother and watched it and we're both HUGE Eragon fans and i about threw a pillow at the TV. also my little brother liked the movie but my older brother and i kept pointing what was wrong with it so he walked out, exasperated...

Sarah Briggs Ally wrote: "I liked Jeremy Irons as Brom though!!! Everything else was an epic fail. They should go back and do a remake. And make it awesome! But yeah. Jeremy Irons is the best choice for Brom."

If they do a remake, i think they should recast Jeremy Irons as Brom. :) Then they should get other people for the rest of the characters. Eragon should not be a blonde, arya should have black hair and not be like a damsel in distress, and for goodness sakes put Angela in! I loved her frog deal :) lol

message 144: by Sarah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sarah Briggs The way they screwed this book's movie up was the exact same thing they did to the Avatar the Last Airbender series too. >:( That series was awesome and they totally messed it up! my dad forced me to watch it with my sister and him... I hated it from the intro. it wasn't that hard to get it right but apparently it was too hard because they messed that up too! what the heck people?! Can't they do anything right?!

Mitchie Gosh, I HATED THE MOVIE! First of all, Saphira wasn't as brillantly blue as she is described as being in the book-in the movie she more of a gray color. And um, aren't half of the people in the movie supposed to be three times older than they appear? Yeah, I didn't like the casting much.... And was it just me or did Eragon's accent change throughout the movie? He was British for about an hour, then American for about ten minutes and then he was Irish???

I noticed that too. If this movie ever be redone, please take a script writter who has actually read the books!

Jeremy Irons did an epic job playing Broms. They should just keep him and find another actor for every one else. And the guy who played Eragon was reeally horrible at it.
