Nightshade, Nightshade Prequel, and Nightshade Legacy series by Andrea Cremer

Not a fan of book one.The romance/love was so unbeliabable that it just made me angry. Shay was just...there. Ren was hot but didn't interest me enough. And Calla, grrr, she irritated me almost as much as Luce in the Fallen series.
I hate not finishing series and that's probably the only reason I might someday continue reading this series.

I'm not a huge fan of this series. The mythology is truly fantastic and nicely fleshed out, but Calla is one of those characters that just bothers me. I will definitely read Bloodrose to see how it all ends, but there are several things I think could have been changed to make this series better.
For those who have read Nightshade and Wolfsbane:

*sigh* Maybe that's a downside to being an adult who reads young adult fiction; I keep thinking the characters should have more sense sometimes, but I forget every once in a while what it was like to be in their shoes.

Nightshade wasn't anything major for me, so I hadn't even planned on when I was gonna read the sequel. Now I'm even less motivated. Maybe you should tell me the spoiler...

Same.
I refuse to read it.

Only read if you REALLY want to know what happens, or don't care, son't want to read the book and just have to know how it ended.

Well. I looked at that book page and was spoiled about something big from the original trilogy so I won't be reading the rest of this series. Stupid assholes who post spoilers. Stupid me for even looking. Stupid author decisions. Stupid.

But I guess it wan't the ending, was it?
A book 4? Blah.

Sorry but this just seems like ANOTHER cop out move to please all those readers who were pissed at the outcome in book 3.
So she sells another tiny story, 3.5, to keep things open. And then because "fans asked for it" she will continue on with the Nightshade series??? Give me a break!
Ok, whatever. It's not like I'm gonna read this anyways.

lol ALL of these comments on book 4 are complaining about book 3. I see now about this #3.5 novella. Double cop out is right. I mean if you're gonna make a dick author move at have some conviction, dammit!

It is frustrating that she lacks the conviction to hold to the asshole move. /sigh I about threw the last book at the end and now to have this shit...it just makes me want to have an even bigger temper tantrum with fire, her books, and some lighter fluid.
And now curiosity will kill me. I need to stuff my self with other books. >.<

This makes me angry and I haven't even read past book 1!

Right?!
Wait wait wait!
Im getting confused... there is a fourth one? just why?

this author just needs to stop!
cant handle the anger!

If so, that is a punk move for sure. I don't like the decision that was made, but at least stick to it if you were originally going to end a series that way.
This hole series made me angry and I only got through 1 and 1/2 books before it got spoiled for me.
So much anger for one series and now she continues! I want to punch the series in the face

Well that theory bit me in the ass!

I have never been the type of person to want to read a book or series for the sole purpose of writing a scathing review, but if there was ever a time I would be tempted to do it, this would be the time.

I'm sure there are others who've read more than us and liked the books.

Funny thing is, I think those of us who are complaining have not read the third book, which is the one we've had spoiled and made us angry. So I think we're all sort of dumbfounded that the author is trying to change the direction of the series now when it was supposed to end at book 3.

Casey, if I might, what was it about book 2 that annoyed you?
Originally I liked the series. I was okay with book 1, annoyed in 2, and livid at the end of 3. That however is me and things I wanted from the books didn't happen even in the slightest.
Now this bullshit with the enovella 3.5 and a book 4 makes me want to punch cute innocent fuzzy things.

Some people spoiled book 3 for me in their reviews and comments and that made me not want to continue, because I'm so mad at that ending. Now the whole "oh nevermind. here fans, have a bone." short story and this adding more books to the series thing is irking me.

I liked the first book well enough - not like OMG GOOD BOOK, but enough to continue. I liked it that Calla was a girl who recognized her carnal desires and killer instincts and that she did not shy away from those things. I also liked it that there was a terribly patriarchal society that needed to be thwarted. And I even liked it that Shay recognized that this patriarchy wasn't cool.
What I didn't like is Shay's blatant disregard for Calla's commitments or LIFE. I think that if he had wanted her to get out of this mess because it wasn't a healthy mess for her to be in, because no girl should be forced into an arranged marriage, etc., that wouldn't have bothered me so much. But he seemed motivated to make her question her situation primarily because he wanted her for himself, and that's lame as fuck. And the thing that annoyed me about it MOST, is that Ren wasn't some bad guy that she needed Shay to make her question her future with. I think Ren would be a great partner for Calla. He seemed to me like a good guy who was playing the part only for as long as he had to. He did seem to want and possibly love Calla. And I don't get the feeling that he'd have been all, "WE MARRIED. YOU LISTEN TO ME NOW, FEMALE. HA HA HA." Just ugh. Shay's character was my #1 issue with that book. The ONLY thing his character succeeds at doing is providing Calla with a choice that is not Ren. And anyone or anything could have done that, and probably have done it better. Like seriously. I think if she had been told "no peanut butter sandwiches!" and had seen one and tasted it and decided she liked it and then ate it anyway, that would have been just as good. Or better.
Shay. /barf

I loathe Shay with an intensity only reserved for a very small portion of the book population.
It's NOT okay to walk up to someone when they're in the middle of a conversation and just barge your way in as if you were welcome. And he did this over and over, like there was nothing wrong with it.
Oh God, did I hate Shay!
he was my number one problem the WHOLE way through the book.
Just so much hate!

Ren was much more appealing.

I think I would have liked the books more, if it where Ren who was the main interest.
Shay seemed so young, and just a try hard haha.
I feel like Calla would be dumbing her self down to be with him... I hate that!

Shay annoys me, for the same reason he seems to the rest of you. And I think what annoyed me both is that all the characters seem...out of character. I know people change, but in a books series you really shouldn't change the "heart" and personality of your main characters and i feel like that happened. I mean, Calla could be annoying/indecisive at times in book one, but nothing like in book two. And she did seem to care about her pack, and seemed to genuinely love Ren, and in book 2 it's like that never happened. She got weak. She put Shay "in charge" of her life and there was no need to.
And if what it seems about book 3, that it's a shitty ending and then she up[ and tries to pretend it wasn't the ending...that will upset me. It's too late at that point. I'm still going ot read it though. I always have to know what happened.

Snakeroot is amazing! Much better than Bloodrose. If you read Bloodrose and hated it, you won't like the ending of this one, but it's slightly better because people can talk to Ren's spirit. You know, weird crap like that.
