Loved the first book. It took me right to the seedy, underground speakeasies of the 1920's. I wanted to be right there along with the characters, smoking cigarettes, drinking illegal liquor, and dancing with dashing young men.I appreciated the author introducing us to a taboo (for the time period) interracial romance. It's easy to see that there are going to be complications for this couple as they stumble around trying to find their way. I can't wait to see where it goes.
I just finished the first book, and wow! It was super fun, scandalous and exciting. I'm going to need to make a trip to the library soon to grab the second one. :)
I really loved the first one a lot. The second book adds in Vera's pov which was interesting, but the relationship between Jerome and Gloria doesn't hold up as well. There is some pretty intense action though, and I can't wait to see where the third one goes. Plus I just love the 1920s and stories about flappers in general! :)
Me too. If there's any one time period I would love to visit, it would be the 1920's because it looks like it would have been such a fun time for getting into all sorts of trouble and adventures! Or maybe the 1940's. My grandmother looked so stylish in all of her B&W photos during that time period. Her and my grandfather had this one pic where they were leaning on a car, and he looked like he was in the mafia. It's an awesome pic.

My Grandpa's greatest claim to fame is that he looks like a stick figure that walked off someone's drawing! :) And my brother has the same skeletor, thinly built frame. Watching him walk can be the funniest thing ever. But yes, (back on track!) the 20s would be great as a time machine destination. Or the 1940s...the 1930s, not so much.

Ok, I finished Vixen. I liked it. I found Gloria's character a bit meh and Lorraine was ridiculously annoying, but I really did like Clara's character. Then ending was quite exciting, too! So, I'm going to read the second one!
Yes, I absolutely love "Country Clara"! She's got something intense going on with her storyline and I really love Marcus now!! I know that Gloria (view spoiler)
I just like that the author went there with the interracial storyline. Not a lot of historicals feature interracial romances. Now if I'll like them as a couple in the second book...no clue.
Yeah, it was nice to see the interracial relationship, but I just don't like Gloria so I guess that's where I'm going to have the problem. She's going to need to grow up a lot for me to like her. lol (view spoiler)
The danger was definitely one of the reasons I kept reading Vixen. The descriptions of the speak easies were amazing. And although the atmosphere seemed fun at first, I'm excited it went to a darker place with the mobsters. Lorraine (view spoiler) Clara was my favorite, I just wish we would have heard more about her history, it was brief and a little unsatisfying. Gloria was my least favorite, and my favorite side character was Leif the bartender. I wanted to see more of him!
Yeah, the danger was nice and I LOVED the mobster aspect of the speakeasies. I am obsessed with all things mafia. I'm pretty sure we'll hear more of all the girls lines. It's going to be Luxe formulaic meaning we'll see how those three girls' lives pan out. ;) Can't wait!
Def, agree. Clara was the best! I loved both books. The roaring 1920's, from Chicago to new York, haaa, amazing.... I saw everything in my head as if I was there! I can't wait for diva!
I finished the second book 2, and that ending was a mess! Book 3 seems like it's going to be really good.Does anyone now if this is going to be a trilogy or if there will be more after Diva?
I think that diva is set to be the final in the series.
The first book was pretty good, but I really didn't think the second book was all that great at all. It was almost painful to read; I felt like the story had lost its heart. The situations they were placed in were good, but the writing just didn't make sense to me.
I agree Maree, I think the second book lacked something. I was mad at all the characters at one point or another. Mostly with Clara and how she dealt with everything. The ending seemed a little forced, getting everyone together for the big climax. The last pages seem a little more promising, but that might just be because I want to see what Gloria ends up doing. I would like to see more of Hank as well. The descriptions as always were fabulous though. I want to go google outfits from the 20s. I would love to see this as a movie or a tv series, just for the clothes and the swanky speakeasies.
In Ingenue I wanted to do nothing more than strangle Lorraine while punching her in the face. COULD SHE HAVE BEEN MORE ANNOYING? Clara...while I love her character, I wanted to smack her so hard to wake her the hell up. Alas I have read Diva and it didn't have the flare of the first, the end action of the second, and just didn't leave me satisfied with the series as a whole as I would have liked. It was simply...okay. At least it closed out and you know what is what, no unanswered questions and all that jazz...
So this is only a trilogy?I see that Diva is up on NG but I hadn't requested it because I still haven't read Ingenue.
The way you feel about this one, is exactly how I felt about the Study series Hillary. That's too bad.
That's why I really need to get on reading the rest of the Bright Young Things books. I have the feeling that it's going to end a lot better than this trilogy. Godberson is great at producing a crazy story arc.
That makes me nervous, I'm the first person on hold for it at the library.
