Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I thought I added enough tags for our group, but I'm not seeing it when I do a group search. Does anyone know why it wouldn't be showing when I search young adult, even though it's tagged as such?

message 3: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I found it when I put in the name. Are you sure you just didn't miss it?

message 4: by Carina (new)

Carina Went on a shopping spree today. My local Borders is closing in 10 days and although I've been there already, everything is 70-80% off now.
This is what I got: Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter, #2) by Nalini Singh Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter, #3) by Nalini Singh How It Ends by Laura Wiess Ordinary Beauty by Laura Wiess Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins Forever (Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater and Precious and Fragile Things by Megan Hart

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments What was the average book price that you were seeing?

message 6: by Leea (new)

Leea That's great! Can't believe they has new released books.

message 7: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Man! I'm going to have to make a trip today out to our Borders. You got some good ones there!

I think I'll be clearing all the comments and hopping in the car to go to Borders.

message 8: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) Wow carina! You got some good stuff!!! We don't have a borders here, we have a BN so no big discounts... LOL.
enjoy those books!

message 9: by Carina (new)

Carina The Guild Hunter books were $3 each, and the rest were about $5 something. I ended up paying a$35 for all of them(which is pretty darn good, if I do say so my self)
It was so hard not going crazy and grabbing everything in front of me. I swear if I could, I'd buy the whole store! lol
Good luck Wendy, hope you get lots of great deals.

message 10: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) You got some awesome deals!! Congrats!

message 11: by Carina (new)

Carina Thanks. I've already read Anna and Forever, but on my kindle and I want them on my bookshelves.

message 12: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) E-readers are great but there are definitly some books that are so worht having in print!

message 13: by Carina (new)

Carina Yes, exactly. There are some series that demand to be shown.

message 14: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I agree! I finished Anna and wanted to rush out and buy it in print.

message 15: by Samantha (new)

Jeez, I'm sad Borders is closing, but not about getting this many books.

message 16: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Those are some seriously good ones. I'd love to have Hounded and anytime you find Jellicoe Road it's a good thing!

message 17: by Leea (new)

Leea Wow, nice haul Samantha :)

message 18: by Carina (new)

Carina Damn that's a lot of books. Very nice Samantha.

message 19: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I've heard that Hounded is really good.

message 20: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Sep 04, 2011 10:49PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Also, I want to thank all of the early joiners to the group. I do plan on tossing out some friend invites and working on some listopias to get our group name out there, but it's a holiday weekend (including tomorrow), so I've been out for most of it.

message 21: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's okay, we've got time.

I think I'm going to get Hounded for my Kindle... who knows when I'll get to it, but I really think it looks good.

message 22: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Sep 05, 2011 01:59PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I think it's a male PoV and a harder edged uf/fantasy, less girly. It seems to be picking up a decent fan base.

message 23: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yeah, for sure, and the male PoV is what really interests me.

message 24: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Do I sense a buddy read... :D

Cause I seriously need a "good" excuse for that book. I've been considering it for a while.

message 25: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I'd be down. Maybe not in Sept, but I'd be game in Oct.

message 26: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Works for me. I should have knocked out a decent chunk of my stack of books that I allow myself to purchase some again. One can only hope...

message 27: by Carina (new)

Carina After comenting on so many series that I find lacking, I'm feeling compelled to go back and rate them down. I feel like a bitch now... =(

message 28: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) October would be a good time for me too.

message 29: by Hillary (last edited Sep 05, 2011 04:29PM) (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Don't feel like a bitch Carina, I do that all the time. You are just "growing." See, now doesn't that make it sound nice? lol
Admittedly I am a bitch as some friends like to remind me often, but I mean things in the nicest of ways...really. >:D

message 30: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 77 comments Hounded is a good book, and really funny. You meet some quirky characters in there :)

You ladies have inspired me to go check out Borders now (as if I need a reason to look at books).

I've heard great things about Jellicoe Road too, don't know if it's on the tbr, will have to add it.

message 31: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Sep 06, 2011 05:59PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Absolutely yes to Jellicoe. :) Definitely worth the read.

So I did the unthinkable and went to Borders today. Even though our funds are tighter than tight, I knew this would be the last time I'd probably go "book shopping" for a very long time, so I wanted to see what deals I could find.

Unfortunately, the store had all been picked clean over the holiday weekend. The YA section was bare, and the few YA books left were either on a lone shelf near the children's section, or scattered among the remaining adult books. Even the adult sections had been picked through pretty well. In the adult sci-fi and fantasy area, the only books left were either ones I'd never heard of, or they were number 3 or 4 in a series it seemed.

This was what I managed to get from the leftovers (a couple of them seem low rated, but that's all that was literally left) :

Girl Parts by John M. Cusick The Secret Year by Jennifer R. Hubbard Inside Out (Insider, #1) by Maria V. Snyder Dark Territory (The Tracks, Book One) by J. Gabriel Gates Infinite Days (Vampire Queen, #1) by Rebecca Maizel

message 32: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments Infinite Days was decent...but the sequel will probably come out when hell freezes over.

message 33: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I thought Inside Out looked good.

message 34: by Carina (last edited Sep 07, 2011 02:27PM) (new)

Carina Hillary wrote: "Infinite Days was decent...but the sequel will probably come out when hell freezes over."

Yes, unfortunately I agree =/ But the book was good, and the cover is gorgeous. I remember loving it when I read it, but I probably wouldn't as much if I re-read it...I think.

The Secret Year was good too Stacia. I liked it ok.
Its funny that you mention it cause, remember I went to Borders last week? Well my local store was pretty bare too, and I managed to get like 8 books.
So today is my day off and I decided to drive 45 minutes to Albuquerque NM, to 2 Borders stores that are closing there too. The stores are almost empty there too but I managed to buy (view spoiler) Aaaand, I managed to snatch Raziel (The Fallen, #1) by Kristina Douglas and How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper for me!

message 35: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 77 comments Wendy, I think Inside Out looks good too, but it doesn't seem too popular because when I went to Borders last week, there were copies at my store too.

message 36: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Sep 07, 2011 09:52PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I was sad to see that there were a lot of copies of Bright Young Things (Bright Young Things, #1) by Anna Godbersen and Vixen (Flappers, #1) by Jillian Larkin (I already own both). Guess teens don't want to read historical much, but come on...the flapper era is KICK ASS. There's way too much intrigue and scandal.

message 37: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments I really wish there was Borders near by. You all seem to be finding great books!

message 38: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I really need to go by Borders this week and see what's left. Get an early jump on Christmas shopping or something.

message 39: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I could be wrong, but seem to recall seeing something about it being the last 10 days of operation. Probably in an email that was deleted, so I can't go back and check it.

message 40: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Yeah, this is the last week is what that email said. Though I saw someplace else that they were going to keep selling until everything was gone so I dunno. Last time I went in there, there was still a good bit of stuff left, except that children's was cleaned out.

message 41: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments Yeah, I got the e-mail about this being the last week. Ironically, I had found my Borders Rewards card a few days before getting the "going out of business" e-mail. There just isn't one near enough to make the trip worth it, especially since the shelves are definitely picked over by now. But my mom and I do okay finding used books online, and I mostly use my Kindle now anyway.

message 42: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I rarely go to actual book stores anymore, since I'm attached to my ereader. Every so often, I'll miss wandering around in a bookstore, and I'll go down to our used bookstore, which is much more fun than a new bookstore because you feel like you're hunting for buried treasure, and it's always fun to find something marked way down.

message 43: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments When I was around 10 or so, my mom took me to a used book store almost every weekend, since I was addicted to Goosebumps and Fear Street, well anything by RL Stine really. The owner often suggested other books she'd think I'd like and give me one for free. I was really sad when she went out of business after a few years.

message 44: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments My mom was a huge advocate of reading. When I was really into the Baby-Sitters Club series, she'd buy me the newest book as soon as it came out.

We were big library junkies as well.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Just put up a new listopia list with a link to our brand new group. I'd love it if some others would head over there and vote/add new books as well.

message 46: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm heading over.

message 47: by Laraine (new)

Laraine (lala26) | 46 comments I've been debating whether to invest more on actual books or ebooks. For adult UF/PNR I know I'll have to get the ebooks because I rarely see a complete selection in bookstores for those. But it's harder to choose when it comes to YA because most of them have really pretty covers and they'd look really good on the shelf lol! Also, some YA books aren't available in ebook form, at least in Amazon (like the Daughter of Smoke and Bone).

message 48: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 178 comments It's interesting you should mention that Laraine, I actually avoid purchasing YA books because it seems like most of them come out first in hardback and it just gets to be too expensive. Lately I've been buying mostly ebooks and supplementing with the library (they're my main source for YA).
But if the books aren't available in ebook I can see where the situation would get sticky.

message 49: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Daughter of Smoke and Bone is available for preorder on Kindle. At least, in the US it is. I like to buy a lot of my YA books in hardcover and get all of my longer (and more expensive if they're not a mass market) adult books on the Kindle. I'm not a fan of paperbacks at all because they fall apart, so I avoid those unless they're either on sale or not available in hc/ebook.

message 50: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 178 comments There was actually an article in the NYT about the decline in paperback and that publishers may eventually move to just trade paperback and hardcover. It's a little bit of a dry read, but still interesting. Here's the link if anyone's interested:
The Dog-Eared Paperback, Newly Endangered in an E-Book Age
