Iusedtobeacat I'm asking this because in every book there is an end or a conclusion to the events that's happening but in Echo in the Bone there are four cliffhangers.

So, do you think it's because the author wants to end the series by answering all those Questions in one final book ?

Also, what do you think will happen ?

Regarding to Jem/Roge, LJ/Jamie, Rachel/Ian, Claire/Jenny etc....

I would like to know what you guys think :)

message 2: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Claire was in her 60s in the last book. I don't know how much longer the series can go. I'd love to see a sequel with Bree and her kids.

message 3: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Well, a while back Diana Gabaldon said something about doing 9 in order to be able to divide it into 3 trilogies. I'm not sure if that's true any longer. I could see it all ending in book 8 and maybe 9 could be a starter to a spin off of a Jem centric series! I have seen that according to DG the last book ends in the 1800s. So, that'd put Jamie and Claire in their 80s. Jem would be in his 30s! It's quite possible. :)

message 4: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 564 comments I think I'm ready for C&J conclusion. I'm also ready for the spin-offs (besides LJG Series). Don't care if it's Jem/Will or Ian.

Can you believe it's been 20 years since first Outlander came out? That's a longgggg time.

I totally agree with you. I wish DG didn't separate J&C for 20 Years though it looks like a lot of their time has been wasted.

I would like to see some new spin offs too.

WOW, that's a LOT of time ! Knowing DG I don't think she can rap up 20+ years in one book unless it's really long 1000+ pages or she skipped some years.

I do Hope the 8th Book is the last though. I don't think I can wait another 4-5 years for a 9th.

Yeah, Me too One with Jem or Many maybe ? Back in 1800s

message 8: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments My theory is that the ending is a "flashforward a la LOST. Herself said it's a happy ending and that it doesn't necessarily mean we won't bawl our eyes out. I'm thinking we get to see Jem, Maggie, Ian Jr or even Bree in the future reading something about her parents in the past. That's just my theory though...

I know, how many wonderful pages we could have read about them in those 20 years! Such a waste!

Jem going back into the past as an adult, that would work great I think too.

Oh, that would be fantastic! I love Jem and would LOVE to see him all grown up. I think he'd be so much like his granda!

message 12: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Me too Jen, I think he'd be a mini-Jamie.

message 13: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I know, Carolyn! Imagine the possibilities! There could be another entire series! :)

O.K I can't wait !!! she must put another excerpt to continue this one soon or I might just Go mad with thinking !

Do You suppose Roger will see Jamie ? Or what time was this ? Obviously before Claire and Jamie met but was Jamie still a child or a teenager ?

I'll die of curiosity.

message 27: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments i was really hoping we'd get it in 2012, lol. But at least we'll get the scottish prisoner book.

message 28: by Evelina (new)

Evelina (evelando) I love Jamie&Claire but after the 8th book I really think it's time for the series to end. I see why Gabaldon is reluctant of finishing it, this story must be like a beloved child to her but before it gets to late it's better say goodbye!!

We're almost close I know but still.

I totally agree with U. It would be sad to see the series end but I'm more excited by the prospect of knowing the ending.

Although I kinda want to meet the teenage Jamie as well if U know what I mean ;)

Iusedtobeacat Laura wrote: "I hate to ever see it end! This way I always have something to look forward to .... even if it is a long time between books."

I agree with U. Hopefully DG would start a Spin Off with some of the other characters Like Jem/Young Ian/Maybe William too ?

But still J&C will always be my Favorite.

message 33: by Annie (last edited Aug 26, 2011 10:26AM) (new)

Annie (annjordan) | 36 comments I don't think that DG will be able to end with Book 8. If J&C die in 1800 there is no way that Book 8 will be the last book. I think that there will be a Book 9. Although I never want to see it end. I love these books so much!

message 34: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I know that it will have to come to an end, but I think she's done a wonderful job of pacing herself and not letting the series feel rushed.

Plus I hate to think of my future without more Jamie and claire to look forward to.

message 35: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Really! 2012 or 2013 whenever it gets released, can't come soon enough. The wait is killing me ,and I'm assuming most of you, as well.

message 37: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments There is a book 9. It's a prequel. That's all it says on Herself's website. ;) The possibilities are endless!

So, I'm pretty sure book 8 will end Jamie and Claire's storyline.

Jen,
The Prequel isn't Book 9. It's shown after Book 8 because Book 8 is the latest so far in the series.

Diana hasn't said one way or the other if 8 is the last one and her response is ussally she doesn't know because she hasn't finished 8.

message 39: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I didn't think the prequel was book 9 too. I thought it was just another book, like Lord Johns. I heard it'll be 9 books total before Jamie and Claire's story ends.

message 40: by Sheila (new)

Sheila | 34 comments Jen wrote: "Wendy F wrote: "I bet that [spoilers removed]."

Jamie wouldn't (view spoiler) But that's just a theory some of us have come up with because Roger is the first of the time travelers to travel back before his original trip to the past. So who knows how it's going to effect things.

message 41: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Aug 26, 2011 09:09PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Well, good(?)that the prequel isn't book 9. I'm not ready to say goodbye, but I am quite ready for some closure. As Tom Petty says, "the waiting's the hardest part."

I hope the prequel is all about Brian and Ellen Fraser. I need more of their love story as I assume it's one to rival Jamie and Claire's. After all, they made Jamie! ;)

Oh, when I referred to (view spoiler) There are all these theories about time travel. Depends on which one you subscribe to. Many say you shouldn't talk to a past version of yourself or people from your life who haven't met you yet. Might cause a domino effect and change the whole scheme of things. Wow, this is making my brain hurt! Hurry up book 8!!!

Jen,
Yes I thought that was what you meant. But when (view spoiler) so it all depends on how you look at Time Travel. But I'm thinking you can't remember something that hasn't happened for you yet.

Well, my view on time travel is time is a great circle and not linear. So, for me it would be quite possible. The most important thing is how DG views it b/c there we'll know what she's doing with the books! lol

I agree with you Wendy. (view spoiler)

Can 2013 get here any sooner?! I can't wait for The Scottish Prisoner to ease the pain.
