The purpose of this thread is for members to suggest themes they would like to read about each month. I will create a poll and the themes will be selected based on how many votes they get. The theme with the highest votes will be our theme for October, and the next highest, November, and so on.

Are there any themes you'd like to nominate?

message 2: by Traci (new)

Traci I have never read a spy thriller. (except for one Bond book) Something I'm interested in trying so that's what I'll nominate.

I've been talking up the James Rollins books, I'd nominate one of those. I think that would be in the same category as "National Treasure" with Nick Cage.

So in broad terms, you are nominating a treasure-hunting story, Hugh?

message 5: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Those both sound superb!

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) | 5326 comments Mod
hmm... yes, I hesitate to say that because they are really much more than that on both counts, but I don't want to over parse things.

As long as we are talking in broad terms, that's a yes.

What category would you use to describe them?

Of course, we can do plan B and just do random nominations, but I thought it might help to have a theme to guide choices. What do you think?

oh, your a tricky one Lady D.

That's not easy. (and I said yes to Treasure Hunter theme)

Historical Myster-suspense? (which sounds lame now that I type it) maybe Historical Conspiracy?

or in this case... treasure hunting sounds pretty good about now.

Okay so far we have:

Treasure Hunt
Historical Mystery/suspense
Military/War Adventure
Military Science Fiction
Organized Crime
Western
Police/Law Enforcement
Private Detective

Any other suggestions?

If I can make two sugguestions, Miltiary Science Fiction (i.e. The Lost Fleet etc.).

message 12: by Traci (new)

Traci Organized crime?

message 13: by The Pirate Ghost, Long John Silvers Wanna-be (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) | 5326 comments Mod
The Temple Dogs! good idea Traci!

message 14: by Gokhan (new)

Gokhan (kintaro) | 4 comments How about Westerns (example: Berrybender series) for completeness? Not that i will vote for it over historical mystery.

message 15: by Traci (new)

Traci I don't think westerns would win right away but it would be fun to read one. I' m really looking forward to this botm because there's a very high chance it'll be a book I haven't read, maybe even a genre. I haven't had much experience with action/adventure.

That's a good list to start. We can make some more nominations when we run through these, unless someone is dying to add to the list.

I will try to get the poll up on Sunday, so get your noms in before that.

I guess you know that spy won the poll for the October group read. We are going to have to have a runoff on the other themes since we had plenty of ties. We'll do that in October. If you think of other themes, feel free to make suggestions here.

If we go with The List of Seventhen "Young Sherlock Holmes" would be good, or maybe the most recent Sherlock Holmes, movies.

Are you nominating List of Seven for the November read, Hugh? If so, I'll add that to the nominations thread for November. Just wanted to make sure.

message 25: by The Pirate Ghost, Long John Silvers Wanna-be (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) | 5326 comments Mod
Yes, I am. The List of Seven was a lot of fun to read. It's historical setting, very action oriented with a touch of romance, (not too much!) and enjoyable humor (victorian Humor but enjoyable). That's my nomination.

I read it so long ago, It's fuzzy, I want to read it again!

Jason (darkfiction) | 281 comments Mod

Traci I read it awhile ago too and just remember how much I loved it.
