M.A. Demers | 169 comments James Patterson has been declared by The Guardian newspaper as the highest paid writer in the world. But Patterson runs a fiction factory. So isn't the title of "highest paid writer" really a misnomer?

Inspired by a conversation with fellow indie writers, I've written a blog on the issue: http://mademers.com/bad_egg/2011/08/w....

I'm curious to know what others think. Do you aspire to be a James Patterson?

Ted Summerfield (ted_summerfield) | 46 comments No.

JP sounds more like a story aggregator/publisher than a writer.

Unfortunately, this practice is becoming all too common with publishers using their big money writers as cover to produce more books.

I know of one woman who brags about being a so-called 'ghost writer'. But why? No one can anyone verify her claim since she has 'nothing' with her name on it.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL, Peter. I think he was the guy who played a character called "Edward". :-)

Peter (74765525) | 49 comments What does it say if someone aspires to be someone other than oneself?

They want to take up acting. :)

Well, it didn't stand a "ghost" of chance to begin with.

We will now return M.A.'s discussion back to it's original intent - Jame Patterson.

M.A. Demers | 169 comments I aspire to be a successful, well-paid writer. This falls into the category of someone other than myself. I don't think that makes me an actor, but it does possibly make me insane or at least delusional.

And don't we all love stream of consciousness conversations?

:-)

Peter (74765525) | 49 comments M.A.: ambition is different from envy and imitation. As Frank S. once said (kinda), "you'll do it your way."

Amy: PROUD DIRECTIONER (ravinxx) | 13 comments James Patterson is a wonderful author. I love a lot of his books, even though I am only 13. His writing style is unique, and he covers many genres for a single author. He doesn't direct one type of book at people, he likes to expand on his thinking, and I really like that about him.
