I agree with this. This is why the title fits so well, representing different situations throughout the story.

I agree with you completely, Tom Robinson only did good for whoever needed help and gets falsely accused, its wrong.

I do agree that most people are nice in the story, once you really see how people are you can see the good in everyone. Mrs. Dobose may of come off as really mean, but if you really know her past you could understand where she comes from and why she acts the way she does. Mayella may of come off as a really mean girl but she was very troubled, i mean going through the things she went through, most people would have a hard time with that like she did. Atticus see's the good in people because he probably understands what they are going thorugh, and understands that they may come off as mean but can be really nice. Atticus probably dose not judge a book by it's cover, and that is why he sees the good in most people.
@Anthony I agree with you about Scout growing up and acting mature for her age. But at some points in the book she was a little disrespectful and defiant toward her aunt. I think her aunt was too harsh but you still have to respect your elders whether you agree with what they tell you or not. Overall, I think Scout could have been a little bit more mature throughout the book.
@ Kelsey You have a good point on answer 3, you can never know who a person actually is until you meet them.

@CharlieYou didn't prove that the title is appropriate.I don't get it what you was saying about the sports, because it didn't mention about the pain how he went through.I agree your last answer because even though they behave by their own way, they were having true kindness inside of them.
Question 1: I felt the title, "To Kill a Mockingbird", was extremely appropriate for this novel. In the book the phrase, "killing a mockingbird" serves a literal meaning and a metaphoric meaning. Atticus, for Christmas, gives both Scout and Jem a air-rifles and tells them that they are allowed to shoot any bird they see except mockingbirds. Scoutr and Jem being little kids, they ask why they couldn't kill mockingbirds, and Atticus goes on to explain that mockingbirds do nothing more than make music for everyone to enjoy and it is wrong to harm something that hasn't done anything at all. As the book is about social inequality in the south, there are many examples of "mockingbirds" in the novel. One was Tom Robinson, who was wrongly accused of raping Mayella Ewell. The court trial was clearly and obvously unfair because Tom, as an African-American individual, was treated differently than his Caucasian counterparts. Tom, in this case, was a "mockingbird" and had clearly done no harm to anybody. Another example would be Arthur "Boo" Radley. At the latter part of the book, Arthur saves Scout and Jem when they are viciously attacked by Bob Ewell. Atticus believes Jem has killed Bob Ewell, but it is later revealed that Arthur "Boo" Radley had stabbed and killed Mr.Ewell in order to save Scout and Jem. Mr.Heck insists on covering up the whole matter by saying that Bob Ewell fell on his knife. They figure Arthur does not need the attention and it is to his best interest that they just cover it up. Mr. Heck argues that Tom Robinson had been wrongly put to death because of Mr.Ewell, and now Mr.Ewell was dead. "There's a black boy dead for no reason, and the man responsible for it, is dead. Let the dead bury the dead this time, Mr. Finch. Let the dead bury the dead.""(Lee 316) Having revealed the truth to the public and make a local celebrity, would have harmed Boo Radley rather than help him in any way, as Boo was used to his shy lifestyle. It was better in the sense that doing that to Boo Radley would be just like killing a mockingbird. The novel's title, "To Kill a Mockingbird," fits perfectly with the theme of the existence of social inequality and the existence of good and bad in the world.
@Maggie - Even though it wasnt suppose to be meant litterally, i still dont like the title of the book. In my opinion, it isnt appropriate!
Maggie wrote: "1. I believe the novel's title is appropiate. In the book, when Scout and Jem recieve their air rifles, their uncle tells them that they "can shoot all the bluejays [they] want" if they can hit the..."Maggie, great answers, and quotes! I agree will all of it!
1:I believe that the title "To Kill a Mockingbird" is appropriate for the book. The reason I believe that it is apptopriate is because the author of the book is using the title to represent a metaphor. The metaphor that she is trying to show and get us to see is the racisim that Tom Robinson had to deal with by being falsely accused by Mr.Ewell's daughter of raping and beating her. Then later being shot while trying to escape prison.2:Atticus is my favorite character because he is a calm and humble man that doesn't get angry or feel hatred towards other people. For example when Mr.Ewell spit in his face because Atticus cross examnied him and accused him of being the one that raped and beat his daughter Atticus didn't fight back and just walked away.
3:Most people in the novel are nice in my opinion but the ones that acted or showed racism towards the blacks hadn't seen the good in them yet like Atticus had. I think that Atticus could see the good in people is because of his profession he understands all the conflict between people when it comes to trials and all the anger that is also shown in the trials. I really don't know if I can see the good in people from just seeing them but I try my best to not judge immediately and get to know them first before saying the person is good or mean.
Jonathan wrote: "@Maggie - Even though it wasnt suppose to be meant litterally, i still dont like the title of the book. In my opinion, it isnt appropriate!"
It doesn't matter if you like the title or not. And you have failed to explain how this title is inappropiate.
@Maggie :Great answers i agree to all three them. Especially the last one because you are right that you have to have experience on being able to see the good side on people.

@BaldemarI agree with you about the title.I guess if people read this book until the end, everyone will agree it.
I agree what you say.The last answer,I could see another aspect after your comment.

My favorite charecter is jem, because he plays sports and usually if you get hurt in sports like he did you have heart for that spor..."
why do you think it's appropriate monte?
1.The tittle "To kill a mockingbird" is appropriate for the book."Mockingbirds don't do one thingg but to make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs. they dont't do one thing but to sing their hearts out for us." Boo Radley was like a mockingbird. He did not interfere in other people's bussines, and he also helped them out at times.2.Atticus was a very wise man. He did not care what other people would say about him because he was helping Tom Robinson. Atticus was a dedicated man, did not give up on Tom's case even when people told him it was noo use. He always saw the best in people. He always had everything under control, so he is my favorite character.
3.The saying "Don't judge a book by the cover" can apply on this situation.Scout and Jem judged Boo before even meeting him. They thought he was a horrible man, but after meeting him they realized that he was nice. I think that everyone is nice in their own way, some people may not show it at all times, but they still are. Atticus has learned to look right past all the bad things a person may have done, and focussed on the positive.Being able to do that is very hard. I try to look on the positive side of everyone, but its not easy at times.
Jose wrote: "i dont think the novels title is inappropriape because throughout the whole novel no mockingbirds were killed or harmed"@Jose
I would have to disagree. The title was more of a metaphore, and not a literal meaning.
Elinni wrote: "Maggie wrote: "Elinni wrote: "@Jorge I agree with your response, shooting Tom Robinson 17 times is breaking the 8th amendment and especially when he was obviuously innocent for the crime."I can..."
I understand that, but even in present day, if a prisinor has gotten past a certain point, the guards aim to kill.
1.The title is appropriate for this novel because it goes along with the conflict or situation of the story. It is an anology to the murder of Tom Robinson and the misjudgment of Boo Radley. Both Atticus and Miss Maudie tell Jem and Scout that: "it's a sin to kill a mockingbird" because they dont harm or pest people, but benefit them by making music. Similarly, Tom Robinson was like a mockingbird without having harmed anyone he was wrongly accused and eventually killed. Likewise, Boo Radley, only had good intentions, and the will to protect the two kids, but most of his life he is misunderstood and forgotten by the community. Tom Robinson and Boo are the mockingbirds of the story, and thats why i think the title is appropriate for the novel.2. My favorite character is Scout, because of her outgoing personility, courage, and outlook on life. For such a young girl, she has the ability to see beyond people like Mr. Dolphus Raymond, who is not very well liked by the town. Scout takes the time to listen to him and realizes that he is also misjudged. While people are cold and distant toward Boo, Scout is friendly and normal toward him. It also takes a great deal of courage to stand up to adults, but Scout was able to stand up to Mr. Cunningham and ended up saving her father. From helping her dad to talking to Boo, Scout is a great character.
Rhianna wrote: "2. My favorite character is Atticus. Atticus is honest and hard-working. Unlike other lawyers would have, Atticus actually believed Tom. He tried to help him, unlike his sister he considered Calpur..."i really do agree with you, Atticus is a good person because of the reasons you stated.
Andrea wrote: "1."To Kill A Mockingbird" may suggest something very different to those who have not heard about nor read the book. Yet to the reader, it seems like a title that ties in with the book itself. After..."I do agree with you on number 2, after all the things Atticus was told and the people around him disagreed with him, he still manages to stay strong.
#3 i do you can see everyone in the novel, and what makes me think that is that, you can always see bright stuff about hard situations, why not on people? i think atticus saw i this way because he is one of those persons that over thinks about people and im pretty sure he oversaw kindness.and i dont think i could do any of that even tho i said it could be possible but i just decide not to do this, this is real life, people dont care, you are nothing to them
#1: I do find the title to approptiate because the mocking bird is a symbol of Tom Robinson. He was accused of rape, but is actually a sweet person who has never done anything but good, just like mockingbirds who "don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy." (PG.103)#2 My favorite character would have to be Scout, mainly because I had i marched with who was nicknamed Scout from this book. I do like Scout's remarks on fighting, though. I liked how she got mad at Dill the whole getting married situation and said "I beat him up twice but it did no good..." It is sort of childing but humurous too.
#3 I agree the people in the book are nice once you seee them. Even the bad people in the book are just doing what they believe is right. Just like in your everyday life it's hard to see the good in people. Especially those who look bad. But once you realize that ypou don't know the whole story behind that person and stop judgeing imidiatly, you'll start seeing the good in people.
Question 2: My favorite character would have to be Atticus Finch. As a lawyer, he is a respectable man, but he goes beyond that. He agrees to take cases that he knows he will lose. He defends those who would otherwise be found guilty within minutes in a courtroom. He defends an African-American, Tom Robinson, as he's wrongly accused of raping Mayella Ewell. He knows he will lose because of Tom's color, but Atticus faithfully believes in giving anybody and everybody a fair trial no matter what. He is a very respected character by everybody in the novel, his perseverence for the law is what makes me like him the most.
I truely believe that everyone in this novel means well for the most part including Mr. Ewell. Many may disagree, but understand that everyone has a background in which they learn morals from good or bad. In my opinion Mr. Ewell was a good man but just with bad intentions which he obviously wasn't born with. Moving on the subject of Atticus, he was always respectful and treated others the way he would like to be treated. Atticus is a fine example and does show what a gentleman is and how he should act.
I think that most of the people were nice. Atticus seems to be just a great person at heart, he is not judgemental and he naturally sees past the bad in people. Personally, if I would not be able to do that, once someone has been ugly to me or my family I obviously don't like them but i do belive in second chances as well but it is difficult.

1.I think the title of this novel is appropiate,it shows how they compare an inocent men to a mokingbird,"mockingbirds dont do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They dont eat up peoples gardens, dont nest in corncribs, they dont do one thing but using their hearts out for us. Thats why its a sin to kill a mockingbird",the reason why they say this is too compare Tom Robinsons case to a mockingbird, Tom Robinson didnt do any harm to anybody but yet he got the punishment for it.
2.Atticus is my favorite character because i really admire how he stayed strong for his family and never put his head down throughout every comment everybody said about him.He never changed his mind about not helping an inocent men.I really admire how he never backed down and he was able to overcome every step of the way.
3. I do agree that everyone has good in them and sometimes you have to get to know them before you judge somebody, for example Mrs. Dubose she was an old sick lasy yes she would pick on Scout and Dill but she actually didnt mean all that stuff she said she was just old and Atticus always had a nice thing to say about her. I think now a days not a lot of people get to know you first before they judge and that is a realy big mistake we all make now and then.
I agree with all the things you said people shouldnt really judge a book by their cover, sometimes people may really surprise you of how amazing they can be.
I agree with every word you said.It was a sin to kill Tom Robinson thats why they compare him with a mocking bird.
@Andres "Atticus was my favorite character because he always new what he was talking about, even if he didnt know about the subject it would sound like he did. Not only that, but he was the wisest in the novel in my belief." I totally agree with this statement Atticus was the wisest.
