Abrar (abrary) | 2 comments Hi everybody,
I hope am following the Librarians code in adding this post here.

Theres a book that has been added to this site http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38...

and due to religious sensitivity, or rather over sensitivity-I request for this page to be removed.

of course the book is valid and people are rating it since 2008, Yet since then some negative comments were pouring in, and it's just absurdly inappropriate and offending and the worst yet those comments cannot be removed.

Many users expressed a sense of puzzlement this Divine book is even in this site. Many in so many words convey that its "weird" their Holly Book is up for ratings in that very page. For instance Wafaa Khaled writes:
ليسَ كمثله شئ .

وجودُه غريب هنا !

Another reviewer got: 57 likes for saying: "
" Heba:

"guys The Holly Quran must be removed from this site for to Muslims it is God's Message that was descended to His Prophet Muhammad, So How could be up for rating and be put with books written by man ?"

Other comments were using offensive language this only emphasize an Islamophobic attitude.
such as: "Daniel:
This book sucks ass.

(Though I love that Good Reads lists the author as "Anonymous"!) "

and : "Walter:
A boring book plagiarized from Jewish and Christian scriptures."

Thus I ask for this page to be removed.

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments All religious texts, including the Bible, have authors listed as "Anonymous."

To be fair, if it's been written, bound, and sold, it's a book, and it belongs on GR. Every listing on GR is able to be rated and reviewed. Not everyone is going to like or value every book. I haven't actually looked up the scripture/holy book that I subscribe to...mainly because I don't care what everyone else rates it.

Abrar (abrary) | 2 comments Hi there,
Thanks for your responses.

Obviously am not coming through to you, you insist on not treating any book differently, and that people should offer their opinions any way they wish to any book they may like to write about. But that's not the case. We must understand and try to accept other cultures' and religion's differences. Dutch calls it a book, for in your opinion it looks so ?

What if the majority of the users think it's not? notice that am not talking about "fans" who like the "book" or the "author".

This is not coming from mere religious zeal, the very fact that many users who rated the book thought of putting it up for rating as any book as: bizarre, says it all. I am voicing their opinion, and I can hardly translate every comment written there in Arabic asking why would it be up there for rating.

How about issuing a poll voting for keeping or removing the page or any translations or other editions of the same "Book"

Goodreads is not a religious site, and does not treat religious books -- of any religion -- as set aside or off limits.

There is already a related topic in the Feedback Group (which is a better place for this discussion anyway). So I'm closing this one.
