Kristina | 33 comments Do you have a favorite time of year or month to read? October is my favorite month to read. There's something about the weather, the changing of the seasons that makes reading even better. I also love the spooky feeling in the air, perfect for scary books and such. I love laying on the couch at night covered in a blanket and reading. I leave the front door open so the cool autumn air comes in and it's just perfect for reading.

message 2: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I do not have a favorite time of year to read or a month I prefer over the other. It is nice to read curled up when it is chilly out, but it is also great to read when it is nice and sunny laying out by a pool or beach. I love, love, love reading year round!

message 3: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I seem to appreciate this time of year to read but I think it's because it's slower for me at work.

But I LOVE reading when it's chilly underneath a blanket with the cool air blowing around.

And Fiona - me too about the heat!! What is that? I've been like that the last year or so.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I completely agree with you Fiona. I have issues outside in the summer as well, the heat irritates me.

A favorite month??? Hmmmm probably October and November. I can't decide.

message 5: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Honestly, I don't have a favorite month or time of the year to read. I'm not really a "mood" reader either. I'm reading Dracula right now and even though it's fun to read it in October (the "spooky" month) I could just as easily read it in March or even June and get the same effect from it.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't have a specific prefered month. But August still has its tender memories for me. I associate August with the summer vacation, when I was at school and when I used to go to stay with my grandparents in a pre-mountainous zone and read in the orchard.

message 7: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments Fiona, I also agree about the heat. I would have to say if I have to pick a month, I would pick October. Summer is winding down (good riddance), and fall is starting. There is something about October that just makes me want to snuggle up and read. I think that it is the changing of the seasons. I am so happy that summer is leaving, I just feel like curling up under the blanket and reading.

message 8: by Liz (new)

Liz (busy91) I don't know about a fav month, but I tend to read more when it is cold outside. Probably because I am not fortunate enough to have A/C, so any activity (even reading) is uncomfortable in the summer.

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I think when it's cooler, you just have more energy. The heat drags me down so bad, and I don't sleep well either which is like, double-whammy. But when it's cool, I feel like doing everything, including reading.

message 10: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I like October and April the best for reading.I can sit outside and not be bothered by so many insects. It a little milder outside. It just has a special feeling in the sir for me i guess.

message 11: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Winter, and here's why...Nov is my birthday and Christmas is a short jump away. By December 26 I have a huge stack of brand new TBR books I got as gifts. I love pushing my way through them.

But...I have just as big a stack right now as I will in Jan, so maybe that holds no water!

message 12: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments The whole year trough is perfect to read but every season has its won charm. During smmer I am always going outside with abook, that's where you can find me. This summer I even went constantly outside with two or three books, some magazines...I was armed for some hours.
winter is great here with the fire place on or jsut to curl in a blanket with your book.
I adore sitting in the garden on a bench during autumn or winter and put a blanket around me. You feel it's cold but the blanket keeps you warm enough adn it is such a wonderful feeling to read like that.

message 13: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I usually read all year long no matter what the season. I'm use to reading before bedtime, no matter how hot or cold it is. Now because of October and GR I've been theme reading with Dracula, which is a first for me.

message 14: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 38 comments It is funny you mention that, I read quite a bit more through autumn, then in the winter I write more. Spring I go back to reading and then summer I write...

Boogoalo Fall...there is something about getting ready to cocoon that makes reading so delicious. Cup of tea and a blanket to cuddle up in. Life is good!

Meghann | 49 comments i don't have a favorite month, but i do love reading outside in the summer. i love waking up and sitting outside for hours reading. i also love reading on rainy days. curled up in bed or on the couch reading.

message 17: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Normally (ie- in places with 4 seasons) I read more in the winter. There are few things better than curling up with a nice hot toddy and tearing through 5-6 books. However, in locales that split their years between the wet/hot season and the amazing temperate not-too-hot season, I always tend to read more during the hotter, more hermit-inducing weather than in the winter.

message 18: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Seasons in the Caribbean are generally tourist season and the rest of the year. I read more in July and August because I go travelling and sitting on planes for up to 25 hours at a time means I get through a lot of books (and I read very fast anyway).

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
All of them?????
Yup..
I like to read during all of them :)

message 20: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments I don't have a favorite month, but I love the months that I can sit on my back screened-in porch and read, especially the months where it's not too hot. Probably April, May, some of June, September, and October before it gets too cold. My back porch is just my little sanctuary for reading. Of course, I don't have any trouble finding places to read when the weather doesn't permit me to use my porch.

message 21: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) You are all kind of making me miss seasons.

message 22: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 33 comments I lived most of my life in AZ where we didn't really have seasons. I never experienced fall until I moved to NC a few years ago. I love to read all year round, but October is definitely my favorite now. It wasn't like that when I lived in AZ, I read the most in the summer there because it was so dang hot outside.

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (goosers34)
The fall for me is prime reading weather! but I must say I used to tremendously enjoy reading during the summer at the beach! before I had children sucking every ounce of my attention for themselves!! oh to be able to sit and enjoy a nice hot sandy beach towel and good fluff!

message 24: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments I agree with all of them, but I think I read more in the fall and winter because it is colder out and I stay in the house more or we are snowed in. Nothing better than a snowy day in the warm house with a blanket and hot chocolate and a book.

I think December is my worst month because of Christmas and the shopping.

message 25: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments mmm, hot chocolate, can't wait to drink that again, but white hot chocolate for me!!!!
I will start to mention it around, so my boyfriend understands that it is time for him to make it....

message 26: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments Jeane-White hot chocolate is amazing!

message 27: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Ashley, I know!!! I am already a real white chocolate lover, but when about four years ago I drank for the first time a white hot chocolate during christmas period in Torino I was completely crazy by it!!!!!!!
And my boyfriend makes it soooo good tooo......mmmmm, I need one! (but just ate so much fish, I'm full)
I am going to mentally prepare him!:-)

message 28: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Kristina, it's nice to know someone out there can commiserate with my AZ pain. Summer is the season for reading.

message 29: by Sarenna (new)

Sarenna (djsthree) | 63 comments I love reading in winter when it's cold and raining outside. I could sit in front of my fireplace with a book for hours.

message 30: by Melody (new)

Melody | 564 comments I couldn't agree with you more Sarenna. I also love curling up in front of the fire. My reading really slows down in the warmer months. I'm from the southern hemisphere and it is warming up here now which is great for so many other things but not for my reading.

message 31: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 157 comments I really don't have a month where I read more that usual. I read whenever...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Uh, all of them?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't really have a favorite time of year to read. I just try to give myself a minimum of an hour before bed each night. Granted sometimes it's much longer. I love reading in bed in the blankets!

message 34: by Stef (new)

Stef (buch_ratte) | 650 comments I definitely read more from October to March because during those months I read on the weekends as well. From April to September I rather go outside to enjoy the good weather.

message 35: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments December and January, because of various reasons like my birthday, holiday time, no work, cold weather ... it all adds up.

message 36: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) I don't think I have a favorite month to read...but what I read seems to depend on the season. In the fall/winter I tend to turn towards the more serious fare, while in the spring/summer I want brain candy. The books I buy after Christmas (with my stack of B&N Christmas giftcards) are always so much more serious than the ones I buy after my birthday in June (with my stack of B&N birthday giftcards). Of course, I totally agree there's nothing like a chilly/rainy day spent curled up inside with a good book...

message 37: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments From January the 1st till December the 31st!!!

message 38: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments I don't have a favorite month, per say... however, I have to say that I read much more often/go through more books during the winter time. I live in northern Michigan and I hate snow, so I stay inside and read.

message 39: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments That sums it up for me too Jeane!!

message 40: by Marsha (new)

Marsha I love to read outside- so warmer weather works well. Good book, pool for a dip, sunglasses, iced tea, and a comfy lounge chair is just about perfect.

But I also love curling up on a gloomy day to read.

message 41: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments That's funny, Marsha. I think I'm the opposite - the colder, the better. Plus I have that whole month off around Christmas to read!

message 42: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 5 comments I think that I read more in the summer. I'm usually in more places with less distractions.
I do like a blanket, hot chocolate and a book too.

message 43: by Jensownzoo (new)

Jensownzoo | 338 comments January. Like many of you, I like reading while wrapped in a cozy blanket with a mug of hot chocolate or chai. Also, all the holiday activities are over, I usually have a good stash of new books, it is not quite time to start planning the garden, and I'm usually broke and can't go anywhere anyway. Ideal time for reading, I should think!
