Marsia I am fifty pages in and I don't get the book at all. Can anybody guve me the basics, i was half asleep when I read it...

Jenn Okay don't stress just keep trucking along and I promise you will love this book. I had the same problem and someone else encouraged me to get passed the first 100 pages and then it all started to make sense. Once you get passed 100 pages you won't want to put the book down. Also, try as you may, but you will probably end up crying with this book too. You will fall in love with Taylor and Jonah Griggs. I say after you read it once, go back and read it again and it will be so much clearer the second time around. It's a great read with so much put in to it..I don't know what else to say except I felt the same way as you at the beginning then ended up falling in love with it. GL!! Happy reading. Don't give up!!!!!

Marsia But I dont have any idea whats going on,AHHHH like i cant get my chareters strait either

Jenn The basic's of the first 50 pages:
The italicized portion of the book is actually part of a manuscript to a book/diary that one of the adult characters, Hannah, is writing. Taylor lives at a school and she is in year 11 there. They have a game that is played every year by the school kids, the townies (kids who live in town) and the cadets (the military kids who stay out in the wilderness by the school for 6 weeks every year). They basically play war games with each other which was started by another character in the book out of boredom which you will learn about later in the book. The school kids each have a leader for each house they belong to and a main leader who speaks for the entire school which becomes Taylor but most people don't want it to be her. The Townies, School and Cadets each rule over parts of territory such as the Townies rule of the Prayer Tree House and the school kids rule over anything that is water and the Cadets rule over the Club House. Each group wants to make changes and use something that the other group has..so they make negotiations and so on.

Okay, hopefully that helps start you out. Everything starts to make sense as the story goes on and unravels the mysteries of who certain people are and how they all connect back to the main character Taylor.

Jenn What page are you on now??

Jenn Shoot, I want to tell you so bad about each character but then it ruins the story plot as it goes on.. :( Well, ask me anything you want and I can answer from there with out trying to ruin the story line for you. lol

Marsia OMG! Thanks soooo much!

Marsia I dont get the house thingy

Jenn The school house or the house that Hannah lives in? You will learn later towards the end of the book about the house that Hannah lives in and what it means and why it was built. As for the house/school that Taylor lives in, it's basically like a boarding school for kids except that most of the kids that go there don't have parents, basically they are probably wards of the state, or they are trouble makers. It seems like they have a few arsonist who go to school there. Anyway, there are so many kids that each one depending on how they are and there needs are divided to live in certain house's (dorms I'm assuming). When they talk about year 11 or 8 or 7, it just means the grade they are in like being in the 8th grade or 7th grade or a jr in HS ..and so on. The girls all live together and the boys all live together so no co-ed houses.

Jenn Hannah's story unfolds through the story she writes as she is one of the characters. Her story slowly unfolds to Taylor through out the book as Taylor starts to piece things together. That story she writes, its about her and her friends. Except in the story they all have nicknames except for two people. Those two people are talked about a lot when it's back to Taylor's point of view, but in Taylor's POV those two people go by a nickname. Trust me, it will all make sense the closer you get to the end of the book. Its all part of what Taylor has to do ..the mystery she has to solve about her mom that leads her to figure out who the characters are in Hannah's story and if it's all true and who the Hermit is and who the Brigadier is.

Jenn Hannah also acts as a gaurdian for Taylor. Hannah knew Taylors mom pretty good.

Marsia Omg! I finnished! its sooooooo good! Do you think that their might be a sequal?

Jenn Yay! I'm glad you finished it and liked it. :o) Did it make better sense as it went on? I don't think there will be a sequel. However, there is another book I've seen on goodreads called The Gorgon in the Gully. It's about Jonah's younger brother Danny and it looks like Jonah is in the book quite a bit from what I've seen other people post. SO that might another book to read to get a Jonah fix. ;o)

Marsia Ok, so my question is do you think taylor was preggo?

message 20: by Jenn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jenn Hmm I didn't consider it. But I think no. I think if she was the author would have made mention of it when they went to beach at the end of the book most likely. Or at least I would like to believe she would have.

Natalie why did you think taylor was pregnant? i dont remember thinking it just intrigued in case i over looked something i have read quite a few books since though so maybe i shrugged it off since then lol

Marsia Because, I thaught of like basicly history was repeating itself, exept for all the death.

Natalie oh yeah i think i remember what you mean now. might have to re read the end again!

Marsia haha thanks i was like, that was idiotic... right after i said it.
