I just hope M. Night Shyamalan doesn't screw it up for the tv series.

Something Wicked This Way Comes, Christine, The Martian, and Code Zero.
Now I'm reading Stardust.

I finished Damoren this morning and it's a good action horror novel about monster hunters with special weapons they bond to. I'd recommend it to people like action and horror combined.

Sounds good Danielle!

I'm finishing up a historical thriller by Robert McCammon, Speaks the Nightbird. It's not action adventure, its a suspence thriller set in colonial South Carolina around 1700. I'm enjoying it. Twisted plot, the narrator is a great fit for the story and a a lot of really twisted characters.
And trust me, this town needs a new Blacksmith in a bad way!

You might also want to check out Matt Helm: The War Years by Keith Wease. It's pretty good. My review covers some of the details, no spoilers, here:

That whole series is good and yeah the blacksmith yuck. I just finished the latest book last week. The narrator is one of the beat out there. Mccammon has never disappointed me yet. Im still reading boys Life and just finished his rather strange debut novel Baal

It's a series I will follow. Pretty dark but good premise and action.

I've never read a Stephen King novel. I'll have to give it a try.

I haven't but I think the first book was group read not too long. I keep meaning to check out the series.
Just about finished with The Black Dahlia,I really have enjoyed it so far.
August group read nominations are taking place now. Go here to select any book that fits in the action/adventure genre since it's random read month:

Just finished the second book in that series "Dark Rising" and loved it.

Right now I'm reading another book I got for free, The Black Opera by Raymond Embrack. It's been an interesting read, although the vast number of characters have made it a bit difficult to get into. Plus I've also had graduate school reading horn in on my fun reading time.
Just a reminder that Nominations for our August group read are open until tomorrow, the 28th. We have had only one nomination. This is your opportunity to take advantage of nominating any book that fits the requirements of the group reads. Don't miss your chance!

I'm a couple chapters in and ... not impressed. The bad guy's letter in the opening is so far over the top it's distracting. Hoping things improve.

I enjoyed that as well, Janey.

Stephen King does seem to be author people either enjoy or they don't. You may just be over on the don't side.

I think that is very true and I'm one of the ones on the "don't" side. I can only think of 2 or 3 King books I've read from beginning to end and liked fairly well. Even then, didn't like them enough to re-read.

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying A Game of Thrones. I've read the first 4 books in the series and love them.

I received my advance copy of Lee Child's PERSONAL and ripped through the first ten chapters before falling asleep with the Kindle in my hands.
Contract says I can't discuss it until 02-Sept, but I can tell you, it's classic Lee Child. The story has yet to unfold for me but the writing is probably his best to date. Great phrases, visceral details, etc.
Peace, Seeley

Zurich's a good place to be looking for a book. If we put Lee Child on his own scale, with ONE SHOT being his A game and Nothing to Lose being his D game (no failures for Mr. Child :), I'd put Never Go Back in the C+ position. It's good, but the background and other story elements were fan-oriented. It was better read in release-order with the 2-3 previous books.
If you're looking for his best works (IMHO), try these:
Tripwire
Echo Burning
Without Fail
The Hardway
Bad Luck and Trouble
Gone Tomorrow
Peace, Seeley

Now reading Swag , 1970s Elmore Leonard.

Well, it's hard to beat the intricacies of Mr. Child and the linear, non-formula methodology. But there are a couple who stand out. Our own Lance Charnes whose two novels are character driven and finely plotted works: Doha 12 and South. Then there is the new traditionally published young author Roger Hobbs, whose anti-hero opens a whole new genre: Ghostman
