Rizwan Khalil I'm reading Area 7, and just as Ice Station was one of my very top read of 2013 so far, looks like this won't disappoint either.

For various reasons couldn't read a single book through October to November other than The House of Hades and finishing Grave Peril, so missed all the group reads.... Well, nothing like a mindblowing, hyperventilating, nonstop thrill ride like Ice Station to bring you back in the game! Right now can't seem to stop following Scarecrow, but I'm determined to finish reading the other group reads Lightning and Mistborn: The Final Empire as soon as I can. Also after hearing all the the high praises of Amazonia, as a BIG fan of Mr. Rollins I'm very ashamed to admit that I hadn't yet read it. Looks like I have my works cut out for me.

(Oh and I still would very much like to return to Dresden-verse and finish through all the books sometimes in between the above ones!)

The Scarecrow series is a must for all action-thriller readers. Reilly really produced some fantastic books with these. However, do read them in order. You will be disappointed if you don't.

message 3807: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt Just started Furies of Calderon. I've read a couple of the Dresden books and enjoyed them but I have a friend who loves this series so thought I would give it a try. So far so good.

Janey | 158 comments Last night I finished Monster Hunter Legion (MHI, #4) by Larry Correia the 4th book in the MHI series. Loved it!! Can't believe I have to wait for July to read the next instalment. I noticed there is an ebook about Tanya the Elf but I don't seem to be able to buy this in the UK yet.

Dave Edlund (dedlund) Just finished reading Callsign King - Book 2 - Underworld (A Jack Sigler - Chess Team Novella) by Jeremy Robinson Callsign King: Underworld. Having recently enjoyed Prime, I was looking for a similar story... this was only somewhat similar. King (Jack Sigler) is the main character, and none of the other Chess Team members are present. Bummer! Overall, I give it 3 stars (will post review). I wanted more... Still, I'll try another Chess Team novel, hopefully with the whole team>

Travis (travistousant) | 362 comments I've read The Wise Man's Fear which I liked better than book 1. Stardust which claimed to be a fairy tale for adults but I think is at more of a young adult level. Then laughed at some pretty gritty humor in Fool from what I've heard Christopher Moores other books are supposed to be pretty funny too. Next up The Eye of God I think.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments Just finished Ghostman , an entry in the growing genre of "fixer thrillers". A tidy, efficient crime thriller with stripped-down prose that goes by fast. The protagonist is largely charisma-free, however, and the twisty plot doesn't seem to challenge him the way it should. 3.5 stars rounded down.

Ghostman by Roger Hobbs

Now reading The Death and Life of Bobby Z and/or Black Karma , depending on my mood.

I've just started
South by Lance Charnes

Wow, what a ride! It's a futuristic tale unlike the post-apocalyptics so popular these days. This one is set in a world that did NOT have a nuke-war or alien-invasion -- and it's a whole lot creepier. It's that rare combination of literary and intelligent AND exciting! Can't wait to find a quiet moment to finish it. Might have to blow off the NYE celebration :)

Peace, Seeley

message 3823: by Rizwan (new)

Rizwan Khalil Finished Area 7, and as usual a fun nonstop thrill-ride from Reilly, although not as jawdropping and addictive as Ice Station, I must say. A bit TOO MUCH to digest some plot-twists and I felt Reilly could've left out some unnecessary subplot elements that otherwise had no connection to the main story (escaped psychopath prisoners on top of everything for example). Still, it was very entertaining, and a solid 4 star from me.

Now, I can't decide which to read next: The next book in Scarecrow series Scarecrow or James Rollins' Ice Hunt. Any suggestions?

Riely also has another book unrelated to Scarecrow that's titled Temple. It was a lot of fun. I didn't like it as much as Scarecrow but that's kind of like saying I didn't like Amazonia or Subterannean as much as Ice Hunt... we're talking the difference of hair thickness here. All good.

I'm really enjoying the Destroyermen Series (first book,Into the Storm) by Taylor Anderson. Though thre is a lot of action in this book, it is proably best catagorized as adventure Science Fiction or maybe Science Fiction Fantasy. The series is sort of Edgar Rice Burroghs and Harry Turtledove join the "The Battle of Midway" (the big 4 hour movie with a cast list that looked more like the guest list at the Academy Awards, Heston, Wagner, Mitchum, Fonda, and a huge list of others)

It's got an "old world feel to it" like the books I read growing up, and it's got a modern style with 4 to 5 star world building.

I'm on book three Maelstrom and so far they are all really good reads.

The only knock I have is that he tends to "recap" and "Summarize" the first two books within the story, sometimes more than once in the begining. Having said that, it's helpful, if it does slow the start, and easy to get through.

The first two books started with great battle scenes too!

I like this series!

Rizwan: Not sure if anyone has suggested the Joe Ledger series of action thrillers (Jonathan Maberry) to you yet. From Patient Zero (Joe Ledger, #1) by Jonathan Maberry to the book I am starting today: Extinction Machine A Joe Ledger Novel by Jonathan Maberry . These would go along very well with the titles you have listed (which I have read and enjoyed them all).

P.S. Have you read any of the Chess Team thrillers by Jeremy Robinson? Great action! The first one published was Pulse (Chess Team Adventure, #1) by Jeremy Robinson .

Rizwan Khalil Thanks very much David, but I already have not only the Joe Ledger series and Chess team series, but the Alex Hunter series, MHI series, Event Group series and many other similar action-adventure series on my very lengthy current/next read list :) (not to mention the rest of the Jack Reacher & Dresden Files books) All of them just look awesome, and I can't wait to finish them off one by one.... I guess ALL I need now is just enough time to actually read them as soon as possible!

Altar of Eden was my favorite of his work. I've met him, interviewed him for my blog, and every time I ask, "When will we see the sequel to A of E?" Every time he tells me "soon, working on it". Must be tough to work on because he's been telling me that for three years now :)
