Thanks for the thorough answer I'll keep it o. The audible wish list. Pandoras Star has been highly recommended to me recently

I really liked it. It's a two book series and their both huge. The first book is lots of detail and mystery and hard sci-fi stuff. Then about 2/3rds of the way through the action starts and doesn't let up until the end of the second. There are more things going on than on a carnival broadway, lots of character and story groups. Likable characters
Lots of time spent universe building. I loved it, some people find the detail and complexity excruciating. (to me... all good stuff.)

I've read the first two in that series and really enjoyed them. Love the "ward" concept.

I like how there are so many different wards. And finishing with that I moved on to

7 Super-soldiers on the run....with each having a mission to kill. Who can you trust?

Also reading "Red Haze: A Werewolf Story for the 21st Century", by Ian Redman. Not the best written story every, but it has captured my interest. A werewolf who targets terrorists. The 1st of 3 Red Haze stories.
Looks interesting David. Kind of liked a couple of other books by him, think I'll pick this one up at Audible and try it today as I do "other stuff"...including sitting here and letting my joints rest up. LOL.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Mike, take care of those joints!
Doing my best. I take a lot of "Goodie's Powders". The doctor would give me pain pills but I don't want them. Need to have my knees replaced. Costs too much for now (the part I have to pay out of pocket.
Still I mostly get around.
Still I mostly get around.

A very good friend of mine finally managed to get her second knee replaced two years ago (first one done almost 20 years ago) and she is finally getting around pain-free for the first time in many years. I can sympathize with you as I know how she struggled with it.

My Hero has had both knees replaced. It was woth whatever it costs. (We are drowning in doc bills.) He gets around well now. Has other issues, but gets around well. For more than 10 years.

Yeah, I thought that, too. And he loses track of things like water only runs downhill. I have pretty well given up on him. But I have also given up on vocabulary. Nobody seems to know what words mean, including copy editors. E.g., check the difference between revelry and reverie.

I read through the book so fast that I did notice any glaring issues. I don't think it can be as bad a self-published and self edited books. I have read a few and the editing can be quite atrocious.

And yes,

Just started Chimera: A Jim Chapel Mission. Pretty good but with one thing that bugs me a bit. Nothing that would make me put it down...but I do grit my teeth sometimes.

Started this today, too. I gotta know....what's the one thing that bugs you?
Not bad...I'll mention it when I review it but since you asked: (view spoiler)
If nothing changes I'll probably give it a 4.

The December group read poll is up. It's closing earlier than usual, on the 24th, so don't miss your chance to vote.

Thanks for explaining. I do understand what you're saying, I'm about a third of the way through. It's been a good book so far.
Wowk, I'm behind. I read Pagan by Andrew Chapman. Good action, interesting characters and monsters, dystopian setting but it was fun read, even if it didn't make my best ever shelf. It's not a replacement for MHI (then what is?) but it's enjoyable enough. A bit oversexed and I didn't like the werewolves socital issues, but there was enough blowing up, smashing trashing and filletting of people monsters and things going on to be fun, and Chapman has a good sense of humor so it's recommendable (for adults).
Now I'm reading PRECIPICE by Leland Davis and finding it good, well written, solid story that should be in the DOHA 12 zone. I found it predictable up to a point, then, very unpredictable (not sure if that is good writing or a bad start) the characters were likeable and the action was fun and tight. Recommendable book. Maybe 4.0 or 4.5 stars to DOHA 12's 5. Worth the time to read it. Not a replacment for Ludlum yet.
Good modern espionage story.

I read it and liked it too. I'm not "Top shelving" it but it was a fun read. I hardly know what words mean anyway so, the vocabulary didn't bug me and I do a lot of text to speech while I drive so editing errors have to mess that up before I catch them.
I did notice that there was a point where it looked like somebody else took over and started writing. Humor started flaring up and as things became more and more wild, the characters became more and more loose... it was fun (it might have been better if the whole book was written that way) and, it seemed here and there to get away from him (the plot).
That said, I enjoyed the read.

I finished PRECIPICE (Which is a good ready by the way) and I started Apocalypse Cult by Alex Siegel.

I haven't noticed a definite change in style yet, but now I'll be looking for it. LOL

I noticed there are several books in the Event series--have you tried any others?

I have the next one but haven't started it yet (kindle book)

Wow...I'm flattered you use Doha 12 as a yardstick. Thanks!
I read "Valiant" in the "Lost Fleet Series" ...it was a re-read to get ready to read the next one.
"Black Jack Geary... He could rule the human universe....star systems quake at his arrival... and...of course, even he can't understand women without help, a seeing eye dog and a road map..."
(for the record, I really liked this one... for a better actual quote...the third rule...
"If you cannot give mercy, then you should not expect to receive it."

I like the Lost Fleet series...no comment on the female understanding other than you left out a super computer.

Probably I forced the reading of this book too much and should have put it down and came back at a later date. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it currently. It happens

I also agree that among Rollins stand alones, Amazonia is my favorite.
