Jim (jimmaclachlan) I was blown away by Mark Chisnell's The Wrecking Crew, the first of his that I've ever read, although this was the 2d in the series. Don't let that stop you from reading this first. It works. The designation is mere chronology.

My 5 star review is here:

I finished Fated Loved it. I'm starting 1812: The Navy's War by George C. Daughan for a little "light reading."

History is cool. Not exactly action adventure but cool.

Yes, I read them both and liked them. I even went to see her at our local bookstore. They lined up chairs in a circle, I sat in one of the last three open and she came up and sat next to me! Lovely person in every regard.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) You're welcome, Mark, but you earned it. There's probably a few around her that think Hugh should hand over the curmudgeon title to me. I'm pretty upfront & hard on poor writing or logic fallacies in novels. Next time your book fits for a group read, I'm nominating it.

Eileen Since June is almost over (where did it go) and I never had the time to read Fated (Alex Verus, #1) by Benedict Jacka . I've decided to get a jump on next months group read The Innocent (Will Robie, #1) by David Baldacci . It's been a fast good read.

After reading Jim's post, I'm starting The Wrecking Crew by Mark Chisnell today.

Then I finished reading a large (2,400 locations) sample of The Monster Hunters by Larry Correia by Larry Correia. This is a collection of the first 3 books in the Monster Hungers International series. Wow! I loved this sample. Tons of monster & blazing gun action! I will be picking up this book for sure!

1812: The Navy's War and about to start The War for All the Oceans: From Nelson at the Nile to Napoleon at Waterloo. I'm on a history binge. A Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier: Some Adventures, Dangers, and Sufferings of Joseph Plumb Martin kicked it off. I've got my eye on a book about Benedict Arnold and one about Peggy Shipman, his second wife...

And I have a good Sci-fi novel in the mix somewhere, Honor Harrington #1.

David Dalton | 152 comments I stumbled across Matt Helm books recently. I never realized that there were 27 of them! I am going to do a quick read of a sample of The Wrecking Crew (Matt Helm, #2) by Donald Hamilton (4th Matt Helm book). Then I plan to start reading Matt Helm The War Years by Keith Wease by Keith Wease. Written with permission by the son of the late Donald Hamilton. Sets up the story and character of Matt Helm. This is my July KOLL book.

I've read all of them that have been published & actually most of Hamilton's stuff. Excellent.

Thanks for turning me on to Wease's books. I'll definitely get one & try it. I'm not going to hold out a lot of hope though. BTW, it's his son that is handling writing permissions. Gordon is the one that has been trying so hard to get the last, unpublished Matt Helm published. I hope so!!! I've been waiting a lot of years for it.

Still reading The War for All the Oceans: From Nelson at the Nile to Napoleon at Waterloo. The best part is the story of Lord Thomas Cockrane on the HMS Speedy, a 14 gun Brig against a 32 gun Spanish Man-O-War, the El Gamo, with three times the crew. He figured out that his Speedy sat so much lower than the Spaniard's guns that if he pulled close, the Spanish couldn't depress their cannons enough shoot down into the Speedy and he could fire up, through the gunnel and deck of the Spaniard.

When the Spanish tried to board him, with superior numbers, he had some crewmen paint their faces and they scared the superstitious spanish as they swarmed over the deck. The Lord Admiral's own words are funny.

He described his cabin aboard the Speedy as "So small, I must stick my head out of the skylight and use the Quarterdeck as a toilet tray when I shave." (The ceiling was only 5 feet from the deck.)

It's non-fiction, but, it's action adventure so far, even some humor!

Half way through Smooth Operator - Gamal Hennessy. There is some serious talent here. Good action/mystery/characters/twists and turns.

A third of the way through Bring It! - Seeley James. My interest is piqued as I continue to read.

I also plan to start reading a digital library loan later today: The Hit (Will Robie, #2) by David Baldacci and later this month, the first book in this series by David Baldacci The Innocent (Will Robie, #1) by David Baldacci .

I liked that book despite having a few awkward parts (debut novels always do). The second in the series is better, and includes a glimpse of her childhood involvement in a cult. I have her third, The Doll, sitting in my stack.

Linda (goodreadscomlindasmoore) | 3 comments I am 78% through The Dream You Make by Christine Nolfi Christine Nolfi has wrote another great love story. This book has me reading when I should be doing other things, like sleeping.. But I just have a hard time putting it down.

Anne is trying to work two jobs to be able to adopt her nephew whose mother was killed. He has many problems but is coming to trust Anne so much. There is another couple that lived where Anne's sister lived that want to adopt Dillon but Anne is doing everything she can to keep him. He is after all related to her and the only relative left for him.
Michael, Anne's boss is falling for her yet has issues of his own with trust. They make a wonderful couple but between them there is so much going on it seems they can't get together without arguing and of course there is the kissing. He is a wonderful man that was hurt badly by his ex wife.
Will everything work out for Anne, Dillon and Michael?? I sure hope so and if you want to know you will just have to read the book and find out. lol I can't give anything away.

It is a wonderful story as are all of Christine Nolfi's books that I have read. She is a wonderful author and I love this book so much. I already give it a 5* rating and haven't even finished it yet. There is only one thing that would make me go to a lower rating, but I don't think that will happen. :) Thanks for this book Christine. I am so loving it.
