Getting to the exciting climax in To Ride Hell’s Chasm by Janny Wurts.
The quote of the day from the Duchess of Phail-
"Well your full of cow pies up ot your ears! Don't give way on the orders of rabble or bow to Devall's uppity marshal. He can stuff his gold braid! Yes, up his tight arse where it will hurt the most for all I care for his posturing! These wagons will pass. Afterwards you can shoot all the crossbolts you like, and ram yourselves straight to oblivion!"
You rock Bertera! (and I'm not going to call her "Bert".) Don't screw with the Lady's Auxillary from Sessalie!
(Though, varily, I fear for m'lady's safety. Such a sharp wit is sure to draw the ire of the master villain....but then, I'd love to see her hand it to him too! If not, I pitty whoever's in charge of the here-after in Sessalie.)
If you can't tell. I'm enjoying this book.

David, has the "Chess Team" Series stood up through four books of fun? I read the first one and liked it. I have the others but I haven't made it to them yet.

I hope you like Ice hunt as much as I did. It's one where the action just doesn't stop once it gets going. I really had fun reading it.

I hope so too (specially since I'm a sucker for awesome arctic adventures). Thanks Hugh for the added incentive!

Nice helpful reviews Mark! One of these days I'll just have to go through all of my Connelly books starting from the beginning....So many, MANY great books to read, so very little time... (sigh)

It's pretty awesome and Rollins introduces my favorite supporting cast Sigma Force Member in Ice Hunt, Joe Kowolski.

Yes, especially the 2nd and the 3rd ones. If you liked the first one you will like the next two. I did like the 4th, just not as much. Maybe it all those novellas that led up to it.

I finished Magician: Apprentice, and I gave it five stars. Haven't written a review yet. Now I am reading Daughter of the Sword, which has a lot of promise with the visions of modern Tokyo and the villain's intense fixation on certain swords. Also reading House of Corruption, which I think fans of Dracula would enjoy.

I have this book but haven't read it yet.
I think I'm going to hold off on reviews for awhile until the whole Amazon thing shakes out.

Considering either Black Order or Amazonia next...both by James Rollins....recommendations???

I loved the Rift-War series, the last trilogy, not so much, but the first two or three tiers absolutely loved it.
Daughter of the Empire by Janny Wurts is part of that large group of books too. Raymond E. Feist wasn't the only one writing those.

I liked both of those. If you've been reading the Sigma Force Series, I agree with the idea that the Black Order sets up the Judas strain and that's a good book too. Amazonia I think in an epilogue hints at the beginnings of Sigma Force. Not Painter Crowe, but the guy who hired Painter, and ran Sigma Force for a few books. (not sure about that though).

Oh, I'd go back and read Sandstorm then. It's the first Sigma Force book. Those work best in order because the sub-plots get a bit confusing if you do them out of order.

I know that's a typo, but that sounds like a bad pirate porn movie :)

LOL, I wasn't sure if you meant to do that, or if it was a faux pas or what.

If you've read Map of Bone(r)s, I suggest reading Black Order next, then go with the chronological order....Because even though I liked but not loved Black Order, the next Judas Strain was one of the best action adventure book I've read. And then came Last Oracle and it was impossibly even better... God, how impatiently I'm waiting for The Eye of God!

Ah, wise choice... and, when your done, you'll never look at your blender the same way again...(Think Quisinart!)
These stay good through four and I'm waiting for #5...I haven't spotted it yet. Just a fun series.

Great to hear.
I like your "Once Pressed the Eject Button in a Helicopter". I just saw that you changed it. Sounds like you might be a MHI recruit.
I don't fly anywhere without a live chicken!
(You'll have to finish MHI #4 before you get that one).

Cheers pal, so dont worry about going back to sandstorm?? ive already bought a copy of black order

I catch it every once in awhile but probably not as much as you change it.
By the way, when you get to book for, near the end, that scene with Skippy and Ed fixing the Evil Spirits is one of the best and funniest in the series.
and I change it about once a week, sometimes twice a day if I don't like it or suddenly realize it makes me look demented like an axe murderer (other types of demented might be okay.)

Number 5 couldn't come out fast enough for me.

Ctgt, the gnomes are great.
I'm thinking I should reread those again soon.
"Once you go Gnome, you never go home" ...."Ew"
I also loved "The Emerald Forest." But I'm biting my tongue (fingers?) so as not to spoil that one.
Holy being left on the support boat with lots of high powered weaponry made for a good scene in the first mission too.

I've considered logging them to read later on a rainy day.

Just kidding Seeley. I'm really just glad somebody noticed them. They were all in fun anyway. (At least in my cavernous and empty echoing mind they are.)

It's "The Many faces of HUGH!" A.K.A. the back drop for a U2 song..."with or without "HUGH""
That's funny. I hadn't thought of that. It reminds me of a Navy story.
On my first ship, we had this hand carved wooden elephant that we kept in where we worked. Once we were getting our work spaces inspected so we thought we'd have some fun. The Inspector came in CIC and looked around, with the elephant sitting right out in plain sight, actually right in the way.
He took notes, but didn't say anything. He went from there to another space. While he was going one way, we took the elephant as quick as we could to the next space he was going to. He walks in, there's the elephant sitting on the OPS Boss's desk. The ispector looked around, didn't say anything moved out to the passageway.
We weren't sure if he saw it. We looked at eachother and shrugged, and handed the elephant off to the nearest OSSN who raced down to the next place the inspector was due. This time it was on the floor where he had to step over it.
The Inspector looked around, stepped over the elphant, inspected our space then went to look at another area. The LPO (Leading Petty Officer) looked at the guy next to him, they shrugged and ran it to the next space. We leapfrogged the little wooden elephant past him four times (Five total sightings counting the first one). He never said anything about it.
Then, when we were reading the inspection report, the top line said, "I think you need try and get the Herd of Elephants all in the same place so they can be returned to the wild."
What do you know? Officers really can see Elephants.

Reminds me of this Seabee bar on the Chu Lai base that was "Off Limits" during the day. What this meant was that nobody could possibly be there, because it was closed and Off Limits. Of course it was packed to the gills with all sorts of people - officers, NCOs, lowly scum like me. You had to be "somebody" to even know about this place. Outta sight, outta mind and outta site.

Then I need to get started on my 2nd digital library book:

Thanks goodness I discovered that I could FINALLY download books .from a nearby library

That's hillarious
Peace, Seeley
