I finished Escaping Life by Michelle Muckley. It turned out to be a wonderful read. It's not action adventure. It reminded me in some ways of the movie "Crash." A murder mystery where there is what I call a spiritual connection between characters. The end was also pretty fun too.

Escaping Life by Michelle Muckley

Now I'm reading The Murmurings by David Walks-As-Bear. I'm not sure if which direction this is going, but, if you like stories about Modern Native American Indians with spiritual roots, I'm enjoying this one so far. Stone's a pretty cool action heroy type.
Quote of the day (a toss up between):

"There's something to be said for normal. I'm just not the guy to say it."

And

"Your going to have a hard time picking your nose without that funky finger!"
(David Walks-As-a-Bear).

I like the characters, I like the story so far (just getting into it) I'm not keen on the narrator yet, but, changing narrators (unless they are really good or fit to what they read) takes a while for me to get used to.

So now I guess I can ask again, how do you like the books so far comparing with each other?

message 2459: by Scott (new)

Scott | 126 comments I definitely think the later ones are better. However, the early ones are some of Lehane's first novels and he had to build characters that he uses throughout the series. The earlier ones are still good though.

Jim Crocker | 271 comments I just finished a psychological thriller.

The Warehouse by Paxton Helling

I wrote a huge review on this one. Not as huge as Hugh's reviews, however. But, hey. I say check it out. It's an all-niter.

Finished this thriller on Sat afternoon. It was a fun read. Way over the top action, but it brought back memories (in terms of action and cliff-hangers) of my first Dirk Pitt thriller I read years & years ago: Raise The Titanic! (Dirk Pitt, #4) by Clive Cussler . I gave it a 4-star review.

That's the same way I felt about The Gray Man, I liked it wasn't thrilled with it, wasn't even sure I would continue with the trilogy. Originally I was going to give it 3 stars and the more I thought about it the more it grew on me, so I ended up giving it 4 stars. I also just finished the second in the trilogy On Target and gave it 5 stars. Which it deserved everyone. I loved the second so much I will finish the trilogy.

Tad (tottman) | 74 comments Just read on Paul S. Kemp's website that there is a new Egil and Nix book coming out this year. I'm about a quarter through The Hammer and the Blade and really enjoying it. I keep sneaking chapters when I should be trying to finish up The Leviathan Effect and getting a start on Prophet of Bones.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did. I was chatting with another friend who just read the third book The Daylight War and he loved it, but it did end on a major cliff hanger so I may wait until the next one comes out.

Who am I kidding? I'll probably read it in a couple of weeks.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm reading Sharpe's Trafalgar. Pretty good. I would NOT want to have traveled aboard ship back in the early 1800's. Sounds absolutely disgusting. Worse than a Carnival Cruise.

Rizwan Khalil Its really amazing that even when you read the works of literally hundreds of authors and collect thousands of books, there'll always be almost that many (or more) out there you have absolutely no idea about.... Thanks guys for some GREAT! suggestions, specially Jonathan Maberry's entire works with Joe Ledger, Benny Imura & Pine Deep series (every one of which looks terrific), and Larry Correia's MHI series already on my next read pile (that keeps getting bigger & bigger BTW). Currently finishing Ghost Country, then after Deep Sky I'll be right on Rot & Ruin or Patient Zero.

Lets keep hearing about more awesome books!

Do the math sometime. It's depressing. 50 years of reading over 100 books a year & you wind up reading about 1% of the books published in a single year.
:sigh:
So many books, so little time...

I wish all my problems were so bad.

That book has been sitting on my shelf staring at me for quite some time. After my painful experience with GRRM and The Game of Thrones series, I keep telling myself not to start series' that haven't been completed, but I may not be able to resist The Way of Kings. I'll be very interested to hear what you think of the book.

Jim Crocker | 271 comments Just started Cruelty To Innocents (The 911 Abductions, #1) by C.K. Webb . It starts with a bang and we're offff and running. The stakes are high and an innocent life is on the line. Time to step up. Will she do it. She better!! I started the sample last night on on Hugh's recommendation. At the end of chapter one I hit the [BUYME] button and am not sorry I did. Wow!

Eileen, I hope you enjoy The Dragon Factory. It is the 2nd Joe Ledger action thriller. Different monsters than the 1st book and plenty of action. The 5th Joe Ledge book comes out tomorrow, so you have plenty more thrills to look forward to.

I love Perry's books anyway. But the opening certainly does get your attention and will put your head through a couple of flip-flops. He's promising a lot with this one. The Boyfriend by Thomas Perry

message 2498: by Eileen (new)

Eileen So far, Joe Ledger in The Dragon Factory is kicking some series butt. This book doesn't slow down for a minute. I'll have no problem catching up to book 5 in the series. I like Ledger's cockiness and yet he's a emotional wreck at the same time.
