What are you reading now?

So how did you like the graphic nove..."
You have three great ones there, although I personally prefer Sin City, Vol. 1: The Hard Goodbye to 300...but just barely.
Fiction wise I'm trying to concentrate on Red Country and Crisscross. I've got a couple of books to review but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a sermon tomorrow, so just finished preparing that. Probably watch TV a while and then maybe read some fiction.

I just finished Robert Crais's The Monkey's Raincoat on audio book. It was a good read, if a bit dated. (You may enjoy it more if you were reasonably adult in the early 1980s).
Classic Noir(ish) Gum-shoe private Detective story.
I just started Covert Dreams by A/A A Member Author Mike Meyer. So far it's a good psyhco-thriller. I'm not sure what, but....sumptin's goin' on there. Well written and fun-scary read (scary in a "what if something like this happened to me" way. So far, no paranormal activity...unless you include Covert Dreams?)

Welcome to pulp. That's how it rolls...
:)

I also added to my collection of audio books today with On Target and The Dragon Factory for 1 credit. I love a sale!

The King of Plagues (3rd in the series) is on sale at both B&N and Amazon for $2.99.

That's been on my list for a long time. Still haven't read it.

I hope your sermon went well, Mike. I'm sure it did!

Good luck in school, Chris.

That's awesome!

I jsut finished Covert Dreams by Mike Meyer.
This is a well written suspence/thriller. It's got some old world ideas in them, but, at least for me, they still play well. A mix of mystery, thriller and pseudo-science. Well done!
I think there's another and, I'm a fan of the first one. (though, if you read it, you'll want th enext one). It doesn't end like most books, but then, it probably ends like it should.

Now I'm reading The Lady and The Tigers by Olga Greenlaw.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm late in responding, I hope I didn't miss the sale.

You probably do a wonderful job!

I really liked the audiobook for Swan Song... and tell me, can McCammon write an appocolypse scene or what! That was intense!

My review is at http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..., in case you're interested.
Now I'll be moving to Joseph Finder's The Moscow Club , which I expect will be a much more conventional spy thriller.

Yeah I couldn't quite bring myself to 5 star it but definitely a 4.5

There is no reason you cant enjoy both.

I agree. And the Apocalypse is sooo much better in Swan Song... Bombs going off, buses flying through the air, people getting liquidated. Really terrifying and well done.

The Stand is probably my favorite King book (and I'm not on the whole a King fan). Still it may be a matter of taste because I don't really like Swan Song. It's among my least favorite McCammon books. (On a side note I wasn't aware King had ever commented on the book's similarities to The Stand. I think if you've read both the comparison might be natural however.)
I don't know what it is you liked about Swan Song, but the "mode" of ending the world is totally different in each book. It's simply (I think) that they both rest heavily on character.

Yes, the Apocalypse was different in both. I just like the way it was written in Swan Song. The Stand painted a really grisly, and good, picture of dead America.
It was character driven for sure and, the spiritual message was played out differently too.
I don't see them as the same, though I've seen the argument made that they were (I just didn't agree with it). The "environment' was different as well in Post Apocalypse Swan Song too.
Nuclear Winter vs. death and dying.
but DUDE the Apocalypse series of scenes in Swan Song blew me away... if you'll pardon the expression.

Mike, I guess I'll just have to disagree with you on Swan Song.

I loved the early King stuff, but I agree with you Kevin, after It, I pretty much gave up. I can't comment on Swan Song because I haven't read it yet, but this is weird timing, I just started The Talisman after a co-worker recommended it to me.

Congrats on making your first skein! What's the plan now for the yarn?

Alpaca yarn?! I'm getting this Twilight Zone feeling here. First the Stephen King discussion, now alpaca yarn? My wife and I just recently watched The West Wing episode about Deborah Fiderer and alapaca farming. Very Strange!!!!!

The Twilight Zone

Like I said, I love his early catalog. 'Salem's Lot was my first and probably favorite, but I love The Stand and The Shining. I have 11/22/63 on Kindle but have not read it yet.
Salem's Lot, with David Soul... made a classic mini-series for TV.... and made vampires cool again.

In my view it's a classic, and I much prefer it to the more bloated John Le Carre's that came later.

I've actually spun up over a dozen skeins of yarn so far, but only 1 was plied twice & this was the first time I did 3. I had to make a couple more bobbins & modify my spinning wheel to hold the extras - plural because I was planning on making 4 plies, but decided that was too thick. The orifice would accept it, but it was close, so I dropped back to 3.
This is pure Alpaca yarn, so I have no plans at the moment. I think I spun it all too tight, so I'm not sure if it what it will be good for. Maybe a scarf or hat, the only two things I seem to be any good at knitting. I still have a fair amount left on 2 bobbins, so I guess I'll spin up some more & do one more skein at 3 plies & see if I can't get it softer.
I'm struggling to knit a small pony that I will stuff when done. This is my second attempt with commercial yarn. When I get it right, I have some one ply yarn I made with a mix of my daughter's old pony, Speedy, fur & Alpaca. I figure it will make a nice keepsake to remember him by. He's still very much alive, but over 30 now. The yarn is very scratchy, so my plans for a hat or scarf won't work. They'd be torturous! Think shedding cactus.
