I'm still plugging along with the Audio Book Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton narrated by David Lee.

It's a good story so far, but, if you like it, and I do, then your in for the long haul. There's a sequel and no way he's going to get from where he is now to the end of the story by the end of this book (8 hours left).

It's going to be a 4 star read for me. Very good. It's more of a pure sci-fi or space opera than action adventure, but he's got some of everything there from espionage to fantasy (sort of) to good old fashioned explore and investigate ... to hell, it's in here.

It has a lot of moving parts and it's easy to get confused if you aren't paying attention. The scene flips from vinyette to vinyette quickly but you'll like the characters and want to know what's going to happen next for every one of them.

It's well done!

(remember, the Hugh-Scale, a 4 is a very good read!)

Eileen Mike, I haven't read anything by Kate Daniels, interested to hear what you think.
They have a $4.95 sale for members at Audible till the 18th and Harry Dresden is on sale! I'm up to book 5.

Ctgt and Lisa, after you finish reading Resurrected I hope you pop in and join our discussion.

I know!!!! I've already bought the Harry Dresden books on CD. LOL. I saw that sale.

I plan to start Gunmetal Magic today or tomorrow (finishing up library books). I didn't care for the Magic Bites books...BUT, MrsJ and others love it. I just couldn't get passed a few parts of the book. Notably the romance that threads through the whole story (and the type of romance bugged me. It seemed a little heavy handed. Big strong alpha male...woman being independent..."me male, ugh". "I am woman".

Just me maybe. I'd look to a few others I suspect that I'm just not Ms. Daniels' target audience in that book so I don't want to mislead you.

Ctgt Eileen wrote: "Mike, I haven't read anything by Kate Daniels, interested to hear what you think."

I bought On the Edge and Magic Bites for my wife last Christmas. She hasn't read the Kate Daniels yet, but she loved On The Edge and promptly went out and bought the next two in the series.

Eileen wrote:"Ctgt and Lisa, after you finish reading Resurrected I hope you pop in and join our discussion."

Will do. Hoping to finish by the weekend.

message 1368: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I just finished reading 2 good books, Santiago: A Myth of the Far Future and Finding Round I'm on a roll!

Now, what to read...what to read????? I might start the MHI #4 that's out, since I just finished #3.

Mike and Ctgt, I do think Kate Daniels book are targeted more to the female readers.

Well...I don't know if you saw my review or not Eileen, but I got through 50 pages of Andrews' book (Gunmetal Magic) and tossed it into the library return bag. I apologize to everybody here who loves it...but I just don't care for it. I'd gotten 20 pages of love story angst and it was still dragging on. Too bad because the opening scene was great.

Try for yourself. I know MrsJ and others love Ms. Andrews' books.

I just read your review of Gunmetal Magic and I liked it. It was an honest review and what more could you ask for. Wouldn't it be terrible if we all liked the same things and isn't variety the spice of life?

It would be hideiously boring if you ask me. Diversity (in any of it's many forms) is far more interesting and exciting than homegeniology. (The study of being the same, Homogenius) ... Tim, what's the word I'm looking for again?

Here's a quote from the book of a quote by Pink Floyd: "There's someone in my head, but it's not me." Anyway, it went something like that.

Don't forget to eat lunch.

My little icon is from the Simpsons. It was a great episode where Homer makes Bart a bed, which ends up looking like a scary clown.

But I think you just mean the other picture I have on my page which is the cover of the special edition of It.

It by Stephen King

This is my favorite book and I know it has made a lot of people see clowns in a whole new light. I highly recommend it.

Just started The Sisters Brothers. Odd book. It was recommended here as dark humor, action and a bit unique. I'd say so far that's fairly true though the humor has left me a bit cold so far, mostly. It is another I'd call "interesting" though. Sort of "it's own animal".
