I'm a new group member and author of a new book in the genre. I grew up reading Tom Clancy and Nelson Demille. I graduated from the US Naval Academy in 2003 and flew helicopters in the Navy for 10 years. I got off active duty in 2013 and recently just published The War Planners

Welcome, Marya and Andrew.
Andrew take the opportunity to review the group guidelines regarding author promotion. We are pretty specific about where and how authors promote/discuss their books.

I grew up reading Clive Cussler. I enjoyed H. Rider Haggard and Edgar Rice Burroughs during a dig into classic adventure books. I devoured Jack DuBrul's Mercer series. (Hoping for a new one this year)
I also enjoy Jim Butcher's Dresden series, although classified as Fantasy, it does quench my adventure taste.
I am currently attempting to write my own adventure story, but I will abide by the rules of promotion.

Hi Ben. Definitely Bond/Fleming. Goldfinger was one of our first group reads. Welcome.

Welcome, Mike!
Hi. I"m Stacy and I"m new to Goodreads. I love reading lots of genres but I really love high-paced action books with some kind of medical twist. I just read an advance copy of a book by a new author I thought was just great and it prompted me to try to find more books like this. It was The Organ Broker by Stuart Strumwasser. Loved it!!

"Marathon Man", by Goldman is a jewel, as is "The Eye of the Needle" by Follett.
And I prefer Fleming over le Carre.

The moderators will delete any self promos out of the correct thread. As such both of these were deleted.

Welcome, Danny.

Reading was something I had to do at school so I never enjoyed it, however since reading Mario Puzo's Godfather I've grown a love for reading books.
My favorite author would be Clive Cussler; I'm currently reading Robert Ludlum's Bourne Identity.

I'm a long time avid reader. I'm the kind of reader who will read almost anything, as long as it sounds good to me. Of course what sounds good to me varies. I don't know that I really have favorite genres anymore and the only genres I won't read are ~ religious, chick lit, paranormal creatures (werewolves, shapeshifters) and westerns.
I definitely love my action/adventure. I've always loved a more action filled book and my Hubby introduced me to Matt Reilly years ago when He suggested I read Ice Station. So, of course I became a Reilly fan and I've read all his books to date, except Troll Mt ~ haven't gotten to it yet. I also enjoy Andy McDermott's Chase/Wilde series and loved his new Persona book (I hope it'll be a series). I just finished the most recent book in the Chess Team series by Jeremy Robinson and am going to try Second World by him next.
I was excited to find this group because most of the people I talk to about books (except my Hubby) are very girlie girls and read all the chick lit crap that I can't stand. So, I can never get any good recommendations. I hope to find that here, as I'm always looking for my next favorite book. :)
Hope to get to know you all and read some great books!
Welcome, Jordan and Karsyn!
Karsyn, you might also like the Event group series by David Golemon if you like the Chess Team series.

I tend to get stuck in a writer until I have finished them. Did it with the Bond books, then with all the Sherlock Holmes novels, then Jack Reacher and now reading all of John Le Carre's word. It is a disease!
Hi Sirius welcome. Yeah I think that's a common malady among readers. At least those of us who are a bit OCD.
:)
:)

My name's Graham and I live in Australia. I came upon this discussion board a few months ago but I've been shamelessly lurking, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a keen thriller reader and also a writer: my debut novel will be released in January 2016 (ebook and paperback).
There's lots of interesting stuff being discussed here, so I thought I'd jump in and participate a little more.
Cheers.

Looks like a great group and looking forward to hearing from you all.
Bob

Apart from working the work, doing the job and dozens of other mundane things, I write Oligarch series. My recently released book should fit in perfectly with this group:
Mortal Showdown

I'm looking forward to meeting readers, fellow writers, explorers, navigators, cosmonauts, serial killers and their captors and others, engaged in action/adventure as their routine -:) and to contribute to the discussions around.
Already yours, Nik

First and foremost I am an avid reader, and love talking about books and finding new authors.
Thank you for having me.
Welcome to the newcomers. I'm the prodical moderator... um... I mean' the Moderator's Ghost... I come by now and then to haunt the boards and wish that I had more time to post like I once did. I am currently enrolled in a Masters program and, spending a lot more time on school work and Daddy time than online. If you will accept that online for school doesn't count).
Welcome to the Group. I'm glad that you could join us.
