Thanks for the welcome Jim and Eileen. Glad to have found this forum! Doges are good, and their treasure is even better!

Just joined this group last week...
I love reading Thrillers, Mystery and Adventure, and also comics...
I am addicted to reading, the only other addiction being watching movies / series.

Yeah. Better than They Thirst, if yer into it. :D Not as good as Swan Song though.
Well, that's one way to intro oneself. The name's Thomas Duder, but that's, like, one name out of four you can choose to call me. I'm a local (well, for my place) model, blogger, gamer, reader, author, and ex-musician as well as wannabe vocal talent.
Well, I've been TOLD I got talent, but every time I focus on a new project I usually set aside all others until I feel done with it.
I came here to network with other readers, market and promote my own action-adventure urban fantasy novella series, and mingle with other action junkies.
I, literally, found this group by typing "action-adventure" into the search bar here at Goodreads. :D How can I not join a group after my own heart, y'knowwhatImean?

Welcome Thomas! We're glad to have you here. Wolf's Hour is good, but, I'm with you Swan Song is great. We're just ramping up for another "Featured Member Author Group Read" and This month's Group read is Wolf's Hour.

I am Jay. I live in NJ, US. I am mostly into murder mystery novels. I recently authored a novel named CONTRIVED. Please check it out - http://www.amazon.com/CONTRIVED-ebook...

So I'm still editing the beejeezus out of my Catalina Eddie book and hope to have it ready in time for Christmas (year undetermined). The good news is that it just keeps getting better and better. It's so good now I can hardly stand it. But y'all just gotta wait.
This week seems to have been Festival of the Book Week all around the country. Our FOB here in Missoula, Montana, was great fun. James Lee Burke read the opening lines from his current work in progress. It was an absolute knockout. Forgot the title, but it's about the nature of evil.
So there ya go, folks!

Hi back at you. Glad you enjoyed your book festival!
Hi back at you. Glad you enjoyed your book festival!

Hi Karrie! I'm always happy to welcome a James Rollins fan - he's on my Top 5 Favorite Authors list. I have to say I miss his stand-alone stories. While his Sigma novels are good, they've got a whiff of 'formula' like so many of the stories in that military-AA vein. Amazonia is my #1 fav of his. I must have said, 'How in the world does this guy think this stuff up????' at least a dozen times while I read that one. :)

When you do read them, (seems like there are 6), read them slooooowly - you'll want to flip the pages quickly, but resist because it seems like Rollins is done doing the great stand-alones. I am totally jonesing on it. There are few writers who tell stories like that, they are all so different, well-written, great idea stuff and wonderfully thought out.

Subterranean 1999
Excavation 2000
Deep Fathom 2001
Amazonia 2002
Ice Hunt 2004
Sandstorm 2005
Rollins is now showing Sandstorm as part of his Sigma series on his website, but it really reads like the last of his stand-alones, it just happened to have characters that he then takes into the Sigma series. To me the difference is, the 'formal' Sigma stuff reads more military ops than adventure. For me, once he turned the Sigma corner his books lost the true 'AA' vibe. To quote Mr. Rollins, AA requires the application of the three M's = Magic, Murder and Mayhem. The Sigma series has no magic for me, although I enjoy those books, I don't rush out to buy them.

On Rollins, I agree, the Sigma Force franchise books are different than the stand alones, and I didn't even finish the last one. I really loved them at first, because they're treasure hunts, and I love treasure hunts. But now, yes, formula. Character development issues. I'd love to see him do another totally new book.

Alex, Did you try "Altar of Eden", from 2010? That was my first Rollins stand-alone - very interesting and fast-paced, with swamp chases and genetic experiments, I think it was categorized as "techno-thriller".
Of the stand alone novels, I'm an Ice Hunt fan...but that's only if I had to pick one. I like all of them.
We have a lot of good discussion, information and links on the James Rollins Page in the Author (non-memeber-author) section.
