I read a book I think was from the 1960s or thereabouts about a girl who is an indentured servant to a New England family. She goes on a sea voyage with them. The only other things I remember about it are that the family has a red-headed son about her age and that she and someone else run across a frozen river or bay at some point.

I don't remember a full sea voyage but a ship was involved at one point. Could this book be it?: Jonica's Island by Gladys Malvern
I'm not positive, but I don't think that's it. If it at all helps, I've also remembered that there is an old woman neighbor who is kinder to the girl than the family she is serving, at whose home she takes a much-needed bath. Also, near the end of the novel, the son becomes a cabin boy or a sailor and comes back a few months or years later.
