I think I would like to be a circumnavigator b/c I have been doing this on my own up to now. I am currently on a book set in Argentina. This is actually the 52nd country I have visited this year, but I don't want to register all my books so I will just start when I finish it. Is that OK?

If so, I will figure out the steps for you.
Is it complicated? My screen is enlarged due to my poor vision and all the colors are changed so often it is difficult for me to do complicated computer stuff. I think it is best I skip it. I will keep this simple, but thank you anyhow.

Thank you, Diane. If I do something wrong just tell me. It is kind of hard just hopping into the middle!
Hi therehave completed my travels - literally and literately.
Thanks for this project, Diane. I've posted a summary of my reading journey on my challenge board. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Natalie wrote: "I will be rogue traveller and attempt to read as many books in a year as possible!"Awesome! Happy reading!
Diane,Let's chalk it up to a senior moment but I am confused. I am participating in both the 80 countries and states challenges this year. I will not finish by Dec. 31. I was wondering if I could transfer the countries and states that I have visited over to circumnavigator and just continue next ear with the challenges?
Thanks

Absolutely. Both have options with no ending date.

Thanks- I will start a post under circumnavigator for both of them. This will allow me to find more countries!
This will be a wonderful way keep track of the books I'm reading geographically and to challenge myself to read more books by a variety of authors or set in different areas of the world.
I will do the circumnavigator challenge simultaneously with the rogue traveller because it is self-paced and it will definitely broaden my reading experiences into different regions of the world while learning about other cultures.
This is a great option! I'll be renaming my 2013 Frequent Flyer list to a Circumnavigator list and will endeavour to travel again as a Frequent Flyer in 2014. I only hit 60 books in 2013, so here's to trying for 61+ in 2014!
What about US states for 2014?
Patricia wrote: "What about US states for 2014?"Re the United States, I am just carrying on where I left off, part of being a circumnavigator
I'd like to be added as a Circumnavigator , and hitting up anyplace on the map that strikes my mood . I'm not sure where I'll be starting ,whether it'll be on the countries or states ...I guess I'll toss my name in on both areas .
Thank you
Thank you
Could you please add me to the world circumnavigators ?
Thank you ~
Thank you ~
I already finished Tourist 2014 and decided ( by myself) to move to circumnavigators but my books are not counted :(Should I stay as Tourist till end of year or continue as circumnavigator?
I'm happy to say I completed my goal of 8 regions for the year. I have also read a book from 25 States and 3 from Canada so far. I am pleased with this result and look forward to reading more of the world. As I add to my library I am now searching for books from other lands, something I had not done previously. Thanks for this group. My reading life is larger and fuller, more satisfying due to the group.
Yay!! Sounds fun and uncomplicated! I'm new to Goodreads and this group, but already liking it here. Will figure things out, but a little patience as I have no clue how things work. :D
I'd love to join, I'm a travel writer currently in India and next week, Sri Lanka. Has anyone read any books set in these places that they can recommend?
Travel writer, the job of my dreams :)Try Aravind Adiga for India. I haven't read his debut novel, The White Tiger, but I loved Between the Assassinations.
I can't come up with a book for Sri Lanka just now, but we have some threads in this group with recs for different countries.
I am going to join as a Circumnavigator and enjoy no deadlines. :) Now to create a new thread and capture my previous travels...
I am going to join as a Circumnavigator as well, as I love challenges but I'm easily stressed by the deadlines. If that is okay, I'm also going to add books I've read for my personal Around the World journey.Going to set up a thread for my travels!

ok im not sure what to do...im not a fast reader. any suggestions. i want to start a challenge for 2015. Happy Reading!
Melissa wrote: "ok im not sure what to do...im not a fast reader. any suggestions. i want to start a challenge for 2015. Happy Reading!"The simplest challenges are Rogue Traveler and Tourist. For Rogue there is no set number of countries. You just claim the number of books you read. For Tourist, the goal is 24 countries in a year. Another option is to be a Circumnavigator. There are no time limits and you can take as long as you want and carry your progress from year to year.
Hiya, can I just adapt my 2014 frequent flyer into a circumnavigator thread, or would you rather keep the 2014 thread on the system?
Amy wrote: "Hiya, can I just adapt my 2014 frequent flyer into a circumnavigator thread"That works just fine.
I'm going to join this challenge too, if that's okay? I'll start keeping track with my current read.
Kelly wrote: "I'm going to join this challenge too, if that's okay? I'll start keeping track with my current read."Welcome aboard, Kelly!
I would like to join this challenge. It appears I can count anything back to when this thread started in Aug. 2011. Is that correct? Since I've kept track of my books back that far, I can add those countries if that's okay.
Laurie wrote: "I would like to join this challenge. It appears I can count anything back to when this thread started in Aug. 2011. Is that correct? Since I've kept track of my books back that far, I can add thos..."That is correct for the Circumnavigator track.
For the Frequent Flyer, Tourist, or Rogue Traveler you can only count back to the beginning of 2015.

Daisy, I started a new topic for you. I was not able to move this post.
Hi Diane,How do I transition from the 2015 Around the World in 80 Books to 2016 Circumnavigator? Do I copy my list from the 2015 ATW to anew thread?
Happy new year!

The easiest way to make the transition would be for you to change the title of your thread to circumnavigator and just continue on from there using that same thread.
Hi Diane,Thank you for the quick reply! I just copied the country and book cover list from the previous thread and opened a new one.
Regards,
Johanna
Happy New Year !Looking forward to continuing the Circumnavigator Tour and read as many countries as I can!
Have a wonderful 2016 everyone!
"Adjust the rules as you see fit," they said.OK... I know this is not quite the spirit of the game, but three books come to mind which are literal circumnavigations of the world, by bike:
The Boy Who Biked the World: On the Road to Africa Parts 2&3 also available.
Thunder & Sunshine the grown-up version of the same story
Discovery Road (which you can obtain free in exchange for an honest review...)
