The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York The Power Broker question

Why is it not available on Kindle

Although I have read it twice I was looking to download it to my kindle as a gift for a friend. It is kind of tough to carry on mass transit every day going to and from work. Any ideas as to why Random House/Caro have never made it available on Kindle (or the Barnes and Noble equivalent)?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

On Amazon there is a link you can click: "Tell the Publisher! I'd like to read this book on Kindle."

There is a summary and study guide for Caro's "The Power Broker" on Amazon. Search for its ASIN number: B0069A7DMI. You'd think that "The Power Broker" would available for the Kindle. It's a masterpiece and a physical copy is large and heavy.

I cut my physical copy up into 4 sections and am reading it that way.

It's an old book, so likely a dispute over royalties I'd assume.

I have the Complete New Yorker dvd set so I'm reading the series of excerpts, which come out to around 200pgs altogether. Probably will be sick of Moses by then anyway.

It's bs that TPB is not available on kindle. His new behemoth on LBJ Is yet this masterpiece isn't. I tell the publisher weekly that I want it on kindle.

It is not available in Nook either. I listened to it as a digital download. I agree it is a great book, I think it is Caro's masterpiece. I am currently reading a digital download of Paths to Power on LBJ, not as good as Power Broker. I wish it was available as a digital download.

Here it is - 3 years later and still no Kindle version. I can only imagine the churn in additional sales of TPB if it went Kindle tomorrow.

An opera about Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs debuts in March 2016. Perhaps now there's a chance for TPB as an ebook?

There is a way. Buy a used copy of the paperback and send it to https://1dollarscan.com/ and they will convert it to a pdf file. (The paper copy will be destroyed, which is how they comply with copyright law.) With Calibre you could then convert the pdf to a Kindle friendly format and upload it to your Kindle. I've done it. It works. My guess is that Caro doesn't want it in ebook form and the early contracts didn't allow for digital reproduction. They all do now.

Lyn Wow, thank you Eric. Good to know this option. Are the scanned PDFs optimized so you can scan them?

While it's not yet an option to e-read. Consider lugging around this 1000+ page book a statement? "Yes, I read and enjoy 1000+ page books, and yes, it's that good a book that I'm willing to take on my daily commute." Tell you're friend, it's all part of the experience. Clicked on that tell publishr link, can't tell you how many times I reference this book, might be time for a re-read myself.
