there were not many authors and the collection is really messed up.it took me more than 45 mins to get the best 3 i could find..
if you spend some time you will get some good books.
i bought
The Help(hardcover)
Bittersweet(hardcover)
The Hostage(paperback)
for 200 bucks.
@vinoth ..he he he i pick a lot of stuff ..once i spent 2 hrs and picked up like 9 books ... all Sidney Sheldon and D. Steel for my brother and dad as birthday gifts ...:)

Steel for my brother and dad as birthday gifts ...:)"well both are my all time favs(have read all Sheldon and planning to read all Steel,i know its quite a lot) and yeah. , i spend a lot of time in bookstores unless i take someone along with me, then it would be a for a lesser time as they(usually my dad or ma bro) would keep reminding me of how much time has passed since we reached there..
My sources for new books : > Flipkart, the best - they give good discounts
> Landmark stores - I go there when I feel bored, and purchase if I really like something
> Friend's bookshelves - why to pay when you can get something for free!! ;)
In Mumbai, I tend to go to Oxford, just because it is convenient and near my office. Earlier I used to frequent Strand. But now majority of my purchases are over FlipKart. In Bangalore, Premier was my favourite store and I was so sad when it shut down. Blossom's and its second hand book treasure was awesome.
Is there any second hand store like Blossoms in Mumbai? The book vendors on pavements near Flora Fountain aren't the same anymore.
Previously I used to buy from Flipkart but now I have moved on from there b'cuz their prices are quite high compared to other online stores. So now I prefer:Indiaplaza.com
Homeshop18.com
ndtv.com/shopping
You can check out these sites they give better discounts than Flipkart

Aditya wrote: "My mom watches this channel on Dish TV. No they have started a special book channel which is only available in Dish TV now......

A channel on books! I am wondering what do they showcase - upcoming/goldies books and authors! Not sure how far will a book channel go, among the internet, fb, twitter, G+, fashionTV, cookery, not to forget ebooks era!
I wish it was available on Airtel too!

a channel for books!!! i did not know that. i am not a DTH guy , so there is no possibility of me seeing what they have to showcase :(
Smitha wrote: "a channel for books? mine is tatasky, so no chance for me to watch and enjoy"Yup really when I first heard abt it I too was shocked. But yeah there is a channel!!!As far as I got to know it's channel no.120 on Dish TV

Cool! Tell me the channel no...
BTW I don't like their presentation style. They would simply repeat the printed features on the product packages and tell them again and again in different words. Those girls are not technically knowledgeable and experienced to influence me to buy anything. I'll check how're they doing in that "books" channel..Ah Ankit! You already shared the channel no. I'll log in as soon as I get up tomorrow morning.
It has been three months for me in Mumbai and due to lack of time and proper company I did NOT discover any great book-place till now! Major regret!I am hugely disappointed with Justbooks here in Mumbai. So less number of outlets and so far from the place I stay. Last few purchases has been from Crossword and yes from the nearby malls. I so despise buying books from a mall. Where are the book places here! Somebody HELP me please!

I like "Landmark". I don't know where it is in Mumbai - but worth looking for. Most of their stores are vast two floor houses offering electronics stuff in the ground floor and books in the first. Lounges, coffee tables, and lots of books. What else would be better?

Same. I can easily get a book for 15-30% off from Flipkart, and they have the cash on delivery system too, so you don't worry!

Landmark! My next purchase will be from there then. :D
Hey how could I forget my Hyderabad experience!I spent 6-7 months in Hyderabad last year. I lived near Nampally. At Abids (across Hyd General Postoffice), some folks hold a sunday market. At some stalls you can find old (second hand) average quality books for Rs.10-20 only. Most of them are crime/suspense or military novels. Worth more than the money you pay for them. Bestsellers may cost around 50-100.
I wonder if there are similar markets in other cities too.
there is, in Calicut, there are shops devoted to secondhand books - these were costing Rs. 10 per book till a few months ago - good ones like Angela's ashes, Patricia Cornwall series, Diane Mott Davidson... you name it, they had it, but one has to search them out of scores and scores of romance titles.
i used to buy from second hand shops. have stopped for a bit as i moved and i had to part with so many books.....thankfully i was a little bit ok with it as i gave most to a friend who would read them atleast......and pass them on...to charity.....
i have used flipkart.
i use an online lending library called book and borrow.....a fixed amount for a certain period of time..and books.....and i can keep them as long as i want and i get the next set when i return the first....home delivery...
have had good service so far....but waiting a long time for some books which seem to be in cirulation all the time....
also a lending library near my house and i seem to be losing a fortune in fines though!

bookandborrow.com seems great. Thanks for talking about that ;)
I think the people who run it must be people who like or love books not just business people.Once I was sent a book that I had not chosen. I guess they did not have what I had wanted...
But I discovered erma bombeck that way! Her sense of humour is just too good!
I am really annoyed now. I ordered two books from Home Shoppe 18, Complete works of Kakfa and a Naguib Mahfouz which I had been pining away to read. Now I get this message that the books cannot be delivered due to demands thus sending the book out of stock!! It was out of stock when I ordered and they promised 13-16 days. And I so sure that these books don't have a whooping demand.Flipkart has gone nuts with the crazy prices they have revised. Home Shoppe 18 promises to never deliver books. I may murder someone now!
U r in Bangalore right? What about just books? Or do they not stock what u r after?.....Or u prefer to own books?...
Just books have opened first branch in chennai and I am excited. I was told they have 6 lakh books!...in all their branches together.....
Yeah, I found flipkart expensive!...so that has been recent has it?....
Email someone or call manager or write a written complaint....I mean an old fashioned letter!.....usually they have to respond to that!....send it off to head office maybe!.....
Murder someone?....relax!....re read one of ur favourites and calm down!
