I'm still cool with a serious discussion of Star Wars in our group. It is, after all, a pretty important work of sci-fi (sci-fantasy), and what better excuse to talk about it in the discussion proper. I guarantee it will be a good discussion. But I also like the idea of Heir to the Empire very much. I've wanted an excuse to read it again.

If to read a Star Wars book, I would like to nominate Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry, which is the book between the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It is only Star Wars to my knowledge that has even had a soundtrack to be made out of, and the first book to have a game based on it on pc and Nintendo 64. In my point of view, it would be a great place for anyone who wants to read a Star Wars book, and not have to read a whole series or be introduced to other events in the Star Wars Universe.
It is the story about how Luke and Leia was going to rescue Hans Sole from Prince Xizor, the head of the Black Sun organization, the biggest criminal origination in the galaxy after Vadar sold Hans.
The game wasn't made about the book, it was made at the same time as the book(along with every thing else SotE related).
Also, my inner wookiee is raging at the typos right now.

Jeffrey wrote: "I think ADF's book is clearly space opera. There really is no other category that it falls within."Space Adventure. But a lot of people use Space Adventure and Space Opera interchangeably.
One of my favorite Star Wars, I've read them all, is The Han Solo Trilogy. One of the most important single novels, IMO, is the 1st in the New Jedi Order series, Vector Prime.
Definition of SPACE OPERA: a futuristic melodramatic fantasy involving space travelers and extraterrestrial beings - Merriam Webster
As far as I understand, Space Opera is a term used for science fiction stories where the focus is on the story and not on the science, this would typically indicate that any 'space adventure' is, also, 'space opera'. It doesn't have to include large scale space battles to be space opera. In fact, one could probably also argue that Military Science Fiction can be lumped under Space Opera in many (or most) cases. I'm not sure, because I didn't think this stuff out, but for me the only clear distinction is for Hard Science Fiction, where the science is supposed to be not too hokey.

      Poll is up.
Top 5 votes, plus I added Heir to the Empire as a personal choice.
That's right, I altered the rules. Whatcha gonna do, blast me?

If Leviathan Wakes wins, then you should still read Heir to the Empire anyway, Laurel.
Consider it one of the books I'm reccing back at ya, since I read your recs the other day.
