Bonnie Rozanski Hi. I'm an author. Way back, I accidently listed one of my books, "Y", twice, once under "author" and once under "reader". I never thought it would cause any problems, so I didn't delete it. However, one group reader read "Y" (and hated it, giving it a 1* rating. It's a love it/hate it sort of book) She first listed the rating under the "reader" listing. Then, a week or so later, she realized that wasn't the right place, and did it again under the other listing, without deleting the first one. So, now, both 1* ratings are calculated into my overall-book average. How can I delete the duplicate listing of "Y" along with its duplicate rating? I tried deleting it myself, but it said I had to have librarian status to do it. Could you?

Thanks so much,
Bonnie

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments Hi Bonnie-

First, I encourage you to become a Goodreads author...then you can edit your own profile and books. :) You can apply to do that, here: http://www.goodreads.com/author/confi...

Next, I found two copies of your book, "Y." One is a kindle book, the other is listed as an "ebook." Am I correct in assuming the "ebook" version is not an actual published version? The isbn's don't seem to pull anything up, but I want to make sure before I go deleting.

I did combine the two, which is the first step.

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments They look like two separate editions to me.

Bonnie Rozanski Sorry, I'm getting a little confused. The original duplicate is not there any more, so I can't give you a link. However, recently I uploaded "Y" to Barnes & Noble, and that seems to be showing as an entry when I click on other online sources. ("Y" is not an actual published book. It is a Kindle book on Amazon and a Nook book on B&N.)

As for getting the reader (Donna Lawrence) to remove one of the ratings, since the duplicate entry is not showing anymore, all that I see now is her review on the main listing (the one with 31 to-reads.) So I don't see how she can delete her first rating, even if I ask her to.

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments Since that reader was the only one who had that edition shelved (and she had the other one shelved as well), I merged the two and tried to add the ebook edition back. It did not return - so I guess that means it was not an actual separate edition. I refreshed the rating statistics and that should fix it.

Bonnie Rozanski Thank you, Melody for your super-librarian magic! Everything looks just fine now, except for the fact that it still says there are 7 distinct editions, when there are 6, (but that's no biggee.)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments 7 editions of what, Bonnie?

Oh I see. 7 distinct works. I refreshed that and should just show 6 now.
