Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments 27 but at least half that list is books I have no intention of reading anyway

message 52: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I can claim 16 definites but I've also read some books in the collections, e.g. I've read three of shakespeare's plays, I've read some of the Faraway Tree and Narnia collections - I've not included these in my total though. When I look at the titles on the list, I see a lot that makes me think "apparently I should read" rather than "I want to read". That said, I do have some on my wishlist and my maybe list and on the shelves at home.

message 53: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have read 16 I think (although I abandoned two of them), and several on my tbr.

message 54: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments 26! That's more than I expected. I usually have around 10-15 in those type of lists, but this one includes some recent books as well, which helps my score. I noticed that perhaps half of those I read after joining goodreads and this group :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments There was Faraway Tree there?! Missed that one.

message 56: by Margy (new)

Margy | 11 comments 38--helps that there are lots of Austin and Dickens on there as I've read all those. I try to read 1-2 classics every year.

message 57: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments 49 of the list of 100 read for me. I have almost all of the others on my TBR, except the rest of the Narnia books. The first was enough. I have a copy of the 1001 list on my PC. I look it over and check off what I may have read, but I don't really keep score. There are so many different lists and the mix of old and new titles changes every time I see a new one.

message 59: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, thanks for the link, Mariab. I feel so unread now. I have made it through only one of the 20th century books, but better with the 19th century ones.
I have read 3 1/2 of them. If I can ever finish One Hundered Years of Solitude, it will be four.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Got 2 of 20th and 6 of the 19th century read

message 61: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I've read 38. The Big Read was a BBC survey a few years ago in the UK, where people had to vote their favourite book. So it's really a list of books that the average BBC-watching Brit is familiar with, rather than a list of books you should read. And it keeps changing as it's passed around the internet. The original list is here.

message 62: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments And I suspect the vast majority of people who voted for the Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespeare hadn't actually read them in their entirety!

message 63: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments The link posted below is a list made with/by prominent authors (alive, of course)

message 64: by Mari (new)

Mari 37 for me!

message 65: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments I have one read one from 20th century and 3 from 19th century.

message 66: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I've read 20, plus probably a few more in high school. There are still some on that list that I would like to read one of these days.

message 67: by Paakhi (new)

Paakhi Srivastava (pankh) | 199 comments I have read only 11 of these, but most of them are on my tbr list.

message 68: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments Here another list. This one from Bruce Springsteen

message 69: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I've only read two from Bruce Springsteen's list!

message 70: by Mari (new)

Mari I've only read 2 from Bruce's list, as well!

That list is tough...

message 72: by SarahA (new)

SarahA (goodreadscommedsdemon) | 3 comments I have read 29 of the list but I "mean" to read many of the "classics" and always get distracted by much "easier " to read books. The same as many I would presume!!

message 73: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have read 3 from Bruce's list.

message 74: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I've read 2 from his list. not a fan... ;)
