Did you like the movie better than the book?

I liked the movie but I don`t think it was better than the book. I felt that the characters were better understood in the book, than in the movie. Take for instance Zero, I felt sympathy for him. Whereas in the movie,,he was forgettable.

Does anyone else enjoyed the book better than the movie?

The movie was great, but NOTHING beats the book. I'm 24 years old and it is still one of my top favorite books! It's such a good story... I will ALWAYS love Holes.

I think the movie definitely added to the movie (which is rare lately) but I don't like it better. I think they would both be losing something if they weren't paired.

In my opinion, the movie was amazing with the actors...
But I agree with the people that say the book is better... more descriptive and more dialogue.

The book was way better.

Holes is great any way you look at it! Both the movie and the book were excellent!

movie sorry

The book is heavy on magical realism, which frequently works better on the screen. I liked the movie better.

I read the book first and then saw the movie. I find the books are always in more detail and you can get into the characters a bit more. And if you read the book first you have a clearer understanding of what is happening. I enjoyed the movie too :)

Both ,but books are always better but not in this case.

I watched the movie before reading the book, and I can't really choose between them. They're both wonderful.

I wish I read the book before I saw the movie but I did't read much when I was really young, when I saw the movie. Maybe one day I'll read the book because I think I would enjoy it more. The movie is my favorite ever and I still claim it to me.

I liked the book much better than the movie, but that was just my opinion.

i like the book better than the movie

The book was great, the movie was OK - don't much care for the lead actress in it.

The movie was cool but The book was way better

I like the movie a lot, and it is one of my favs. But nothing beats the book!

BOOK!!!

I like the book better then the movie because it was better okay.If you guys have a problem go suicide:)

Oye haramyo the book is better, I might be a ref but u fuckin cunts sitting on the compute are fags

The movie was admirable in its attempt, but the book is a classic (my opinion only) for young readers, and anyone else who like a good read.

BOOK!!!!! I always love the books but i honestly think movies inspired by books takes away the creativity of the picture you make in your head.

Both the book and the movie were incredible but I think I have to say the book is better

i like the movie and the book

I feel that the book was better than movie. The director of the movie did do a pretty good job of doing everything the book did.

i loved the book 100 times better than the movie
i had to read the book for school and thought that i wouldn't like it cause the movie was not my favorite but i was wrong it was an awesome book

I loved both. I had to teach the book, so read that first. It certainly makes it easier to show character development and explain some things you can't in a movie, but the film was a classic in its own right - and it was fun watching spot-the-cameo such as Louis Sachar and his wife appearing as customers for onion tonic and the casting of the Fonz as Stanley's eccentric Dad( Henry Winkler has aged a lot, but is still recognisable)and Eartha Kitt as Madam Zeroni. In fact, it was brilliantly cast in general. Stanley wasn't fat, but they explained that in the DVD extras and I accepted the reason given.

I liked both the book and the movie. I had a book and movie discussion with my Teen Book Club and we believe it is one of the closest movie adaptations to a book.

I took a poll at the meeting and it was 8.6 out of 10 for the movie and 7.8 for the book.

Actually, I thought the movie was better than the book.
In the book, when it came to establishing the history of the town, I felt the writing was all over the place. We would be reading about the present, then without much explanation, we're suddenly reading about the past. It goes back to the present but quickly drags us back to the past. I felt like a dog's chew toy.
The film managed to blend the past and present very well, I thought. Rather than showing us chunks of the past, which is what the book did, it was neatly placed together.

Also, the description of some of the characters (X-Ray, Armpit etc) weren't that great. I couldn't even picture some of the characters because their descriptions were so vague. There were times where I was thinking, "Who is this person again?".
I thought that the story was amazing, no doubt about that. But the actual writing? I wasn't that impressed by it, to be honest.

This a question that is worthy a discussion ! For me a movie can never be better than it's based-on book . When you are reading you're the director , producer and even the actors . Not to mention the time , a 2 hour movie can not replace - not a little bit - a book that may be read in days and is available to reread again and again . When it comes to Holes , I really liked the movie , but it's not fair to compare it to the book .

I actually liked the book better it made it more graphic 4 me!

Yes

The movie was all right, but it doesn't even slightly compare to the book. The book was the story of a young boy's struggle to overcome his own body, his family's history, his bad luck, his bad circumstances. It is rich, it is heartbreaking, it is deep, it is complex, and it is not afraid to deal with less than comfortable topics which children usual don't get to engage with. The movie is just a quirky story about a kid with bad luck. Even though the plot is essentially the same, the way in which the story is told completely changes the experience and meaning and depth. No comparison between the two. Far and away, the book is an incredible work of literary beauty inspired by real life pains and struggles. The movie is just an entertaining movie.

I really enjoyed the book and movie but I honestly liked the movie better.

The movie was great! The book was better!!! They were both amazing but the book to me has sooo much more detail and gets you a lot more hooked, but the movie did explain some things in more detail.

The movie is awesome
I think I liked it better than the book
It's the first movie that I've liked better that the book
It's my favorite movie
I watched it at LEAST 7-8 times

I loved the book too... The movie's stanards were not as much as the book!

Both great.
They can show very different things.

I loved the book and in places got so tickled my students had a great time laughing at me. The movies was good, but I think all great books should be read before seeing the movie.

i got very bord

both. but the book was really good.

For example, Tarzan, The Wind in the Willows, Holes . . .

Yeah, the movie was SO much better. Disney makes everything better.

I think the movie was most of the time dead on to the book. I still think that the book is better, though.

I like the book better but I was surprised and how much like the book the movie was. There were only two or three different things in the book.

the movie did a good job. i liked them the same

I love the book but I think the movie is good too. I think the film sticks to the spirit of the book.

I like the movie better because it explains more.

Usually the book is always the better one compared to the movie. Although in this case I like both of them fairly equally. This movie was fairly better than all the other book to movie comparisons.
