This link is too good to miss :

Thanks - I'd missed that one, lots of useful info there.

:0)

message 3: by Chookgate (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments Does anyone know how to change the time stamp display for messages so that we can see the time in GMT/UTC instead of whatever presumably US timezone it's showing in?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Mine is showing the correct time for the UK, Chooks. Perhaps it has something to do with setting your location in your profile?

Worth a try, maybe.

message 5: by Chookgate (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments Sorry that was rude of me, not been back to this thread to see if anyone answered! Mmm, my location is set correctly I think. I'll check back tomorrow and see what time it says I posted this (28th August at 8:15 pm)

message 6: by Chookgate (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments Ah, interesting! When I upgraded to IE9 I started having problems with lots of websites, so I've been using Google Chrome for everything except the few sites that wouldn't work with it. When I log in to Goodreads using the Google browser it shows the time as 8 hours behind, but when I log in using IE9 the time is correct. So the problem is with Google Chrome somewhere ...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No worries, Chookgate. Wonder if anyone else is seeing same, though?

Chookgate, if you click on the 'unread topics' link over to the right, under the search discussion posts thingy, it shows all the posts you've not read yet. Handy!

message 8: by Chookgate (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments Useful, thanks never spotted that before. I'm way behind though, I haven't read many of the Meet the Author or Book Recommendation threads yet, I'm already too 1-click happy!

message 9: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments Sounds like Google Chrome is on US West Coast time, if that helps. Don't know if Google itself is over there or not...

Don't be afraid to look at them, Chookgate. It's not like they're very on topic, most of them. Lol

message 11: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie | 99 comments Can anyone give an idiot's guide to Kindlegraph? I followed the instruction to add the email address to my approved list but I haven't received anything yet.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I think Steve is building a log cabin. He really has to sign each one so you will get it when he has swarfega'd his varnished fingers I expect.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I believe the term he used was 'waxing his beams'

I let the comment pass...

message 14: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie | 99 comments Thanks Simon and Patti. I'd also requested a couple of other authors but they are American so I will wait until tomorrow to check.

message 15: by Chookgate (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments I requested Denis Batcheldor's kindlegraph (Soul Intent), I got it in seconds! Probably just coincidental timing. (I got one from Steve last night)

I have requested another one I've seen no sign of, but if the author has to respond to a request and it's not totally automatic I'm more than happy to wait - I'd rather they were writing books than hovering over their email!

message 16: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie | 99 comments I agree Chookgate. I just was concerned that I had made a mistake as it is the first time I have used Twitter and had requested something to be sent to my Kindle.

message 17: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie | 99 comments I received the kindlegraphs last night.

message 18: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Sep 27, 2011 01:48PM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Recently Goodreads users have been experiencing various problems and bugs. Clearing your cache may help. If you click a thread and it says there are no new posts yet you know there are, click back a page and you will see them.

If you haven't been on in a few days you may see many, many unread posts. In most cases this will be an error. Goodreads seem to be aware of the problems and are working to fix them.
More information can be found here.

message 19: by Susan (new)

Susan (susielily) | 469 comments Thank you very much for that Patti - thought I was going bonkers! It's really been going haywire for me.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Most welcome Susan. If you (or anyone!) ever need any help with anything or have any questions, please just ask.

Simon, I and all of the lovely people in our group are here to help whenever we can.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Just to bump this. Goodreads is in a bit of a mess still. It looks like the unread count isn't working at the moment along with lots of other problems.

Hopefully they will sort things out.

Take a deep breath and stick with us!!

message 22: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Sep 28, 2011 02:49AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Things seem to working properly for me now. I did have to go through lots of threads that were showing as having new posts but didn't. Once I clicked on all of them, everything seems fine.

Please let us know of any problems you may be experiencing so we can investigate them.

message 23: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments I've had the odd thread show up as no new posts, I just clicked back a page. Hadn't realised it was a site-wide thing.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Is it still happening, Mhairi?

message 25: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments Not in the last few hours that I can remember. I think it happened a couple of times first thing. I'll let you know if it happens again.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thank you.

message 27: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Seems fixed now. At least, I've not had a problem since this morning - well not here anyway!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I haven't had any trouble for a ndnscrui rndfndfn roifnvn vrnurioererpms gj vm;ddfo

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Someone get the hose. Simon's exploded again.

Yes please; how do I empty the cache? Just click on things one at at time, or is there a quicker way?

AND a big thankyou to you and Simon for all the good work. You're stars!

message 31: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments Yeah, I have no idea how to clear the cache either!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Which operating system do you use, Susan? Internet explorer? Firefox? A different one?

message 33: by Susan (new)

Susan (susielily) | 469 comments Oh dear, I don't know. I've got Vista. I don't use the email thing on the machine, just Hotmail. But I have got a thing called C.cleaner, which gets rid of cookies and other stuff - shall I try that?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yes try your c-cleaner then let me know if it helped, please.

message 35: by Susan (new)

Susan (susielily) | 469 comments Patti (P E) wrote: "Yes try your c-cleaner then let me know if it helped, please."

Thanks, yes it worked. Now nothing appears to be unread, and there is no red writing. Probably speed up the computer too!

message 36: by Susan (new)

Susan (susielily) | 469 comments They've come back again now (the red reminders) because I've signed in again. But the site does seem to be back on track, so fingers crosed!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lovely. Let me know how you get on this evening.

message 38: by Susan (new)

Susan (susielily) | 469 comments Everything in perfect working order now Patti.

message 39: by Sucajo (new)

Sucajo I don't know if this is the right place for this question but if not hopefully someone can point me in the right direction :)
What happens when you block another member? I can find instructions on how to do it but not what it entails. I assume it keeps your account private from them but does it stop them commenting on your book reviews, status etc? If you are in the a group with them, I assume they can still see the comments you make in various threads and respond to them. Any help gratefully received!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Good question Susan. I don't know as I have never done it. I might have a play tomorrow as I am being stalked by a Canadian :)

message 41: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Lol... I have done it once, never heard of him afterwards so I can't say.... Either he was totally blocked or he moved on to another target....

message 42: by Sucajo (new)

Sucajo Thanks. Guess, I just want to know, if I block this person are they still going to be able to sneak up on me when I least expect it?

Good luck with your Canadian, Simon :)

message 43: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments The goodreads help section has a contact page Susan. http://www.goodreads.com/about/contac...

Maybe if you send them a message with your question, they might be able to get back to you with an answer. There is also a section in the help area about reporting someone for abuse (if that's the case).

Lol Lorraine, I've never had any problems on this site, but on occasion have had on other sites or in the online game I play. My usual answer to that kind of stalking is to tell them I am a man in real life pretending to be a female online. It really messes with their head, and has been 100% effective in me never hearing from them again....lol.

message 44: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Awesome Maureen , mind if I pinch your idea in the future?

Good luck Susan I hope your problem gets sorted x

HAHA! I've pretended to be male on MANY websites before but then there is an awkward moment when you get a girl hitting on you and you must explain that you are actually female yourself too...

poor simon. stopping the stalking would have been easier if youd not given me your address...
he luvs me really. if not i will torment him til he does...;)

message 47: by Maureen (Mews) (last edited Dec 31, 2011 03:39PM) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments Oh Louise thats not the worst I have done :(. I used to tell potential on-line stalkers that I was a hermaphrodite. Baffle them with a big word that they had to go google. You could almost feel the confusion and disbelief oozing through the computer screen (before they ran away). Then I grew-up and realised that it was something that afflicted real people and not something to be joked about.

Still, it was amusing for awhile until I grew a conscience about it.

message 48: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Wait till you're old ladies - no-one stalks you then - not even wrinkle-cream manufacturers!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments You do make me laugh Ignite. Haven't you noticed me hanging around in the bushes outside your place?

message 50: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, I thought it was the postman. For some reason he's scared of me.
