Connie | 188 comments It's fun to see how excited we all are over this. Are we easy to please people, or what? :)

message 52: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, so true Connie. :)

message 53: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Darn it. Went to update my page count (clicking on the gray link which worked for me before) and there was nowhere to enter the page number. Only a section for comments. Anyone else having this problem?

*deep breath*

*patience*

message 54: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Never mind. Just figured it out. But I swear GR switched it on me. Oh, well.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Connie, do you know how to use the page thing? I'm pretty clueless here. :P

message 56: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oohh, I figured it out!

message 57: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Emma: Aren't we funny answering our own posts?!? Another sign of being addicted to goodreads???

message 58: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Soo true Connie, I'm a major addict!!!! :D

message 60: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I just noticed that if you look at your friends, you can see what they are reading and what page they are on. Neat!

message 61: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 157 comments I just noticed the progress bar too!! Too cool. I noticed first thing when I logged in tonight.
I can't wait to what page my friends are on in their book! Maybe this will entice to read faster and not be online so much. Nyaa...that would be way too easy!

message 62: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Ann I also noticed that when you watch your friends! It is great!!!!

I feel like a little kid that got his favourite candy!!!!!!

message 63: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments To answer several people's questions: I noticed one of my books I'm reading says it's way longer than what it is. When I looked, the book has lots of footnotes and a bibliography, both of which I don't read line by line **maybe that's just me** It added a good 50+ pages to my page #.

Has anyone checked to see what happens with audiobooks?

message 64: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Julianne - For the audiobook I'm listening to, it just has a place for me to put a page number, so I'm just not using the progress bar for that book.

message 65: by Lynlee4 (new)

Lynlee4 | 117 comments I'm feeling a little dumb! The progress bar was there yesterday, I set it for one of the books I'm ready, went back to it last night and can't make any changes/updates. When I click on the book, it brings me to a comment box.

What am I missing?

message 66: by Tisha (new)

Tisha This bothered me FOREVER until I figured it out. You have to click the title twice. So click it..it brings you to the comment box. Then click the name again, you will see directly underneath it allows you to change it.

However, I just tried it again, and now it lets me update it by just going to my profile and clicking the title.

message 67: by Lynlee4 (new)

Lynlee4 | 117 comments Ah ha! Thank you! got it - sheesh...should it be that hard? lol

message 68: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 157 comments I didn't see where it posts the number of page the book has :(

message 69: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 157 comments Scratch the above post. I found the place where it does.

message 70: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (notestothemoon) Okay so I have been a geek and worked it out. It does include every single page in the book, so for the version of dracula I'm reading there are 25 pages at the beginning extra. I'm gona have to add that on every time I want to update my progress. Calculator at the ready ha ha :)

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

It is going to keep us on our toes! Just another activity on GR to keep us addicted!

message 72: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Iknow! I have to say I love the progress bar. I explained it to my hubby (who's on GR too) and he just gave me a look like, "There goes my crazy wife again..."

message 73: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I loved the progress bar to start with, now I hate it. I read 4 or 5 books at a time (1 next to the bed, 1 bag book, 1 computer book and 1 or 2 books I'm trying to finish). I am now feeling constant pressure to update how much I've read before I forget whenever I read a few pages! I shall have to take the bar off.

message 74: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Petra, I feel your pain. I have 4 books that I'm reading simultaneously at the moment and I feel pressured toward reading them just so that I can update the progress bar. I've made a promise to myself that I'll only update it daily just so I don't go overboard.

message 75: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Oh yeah, I think once a day is good enough. At first I was going to try to do it twice a day--once in the morning and once in the evening--but even that was a little much for me.

message 76: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Gone cold turkey. Not doing the progress bar anymore. ;-D I feel freeeeeeee!

message 77: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments THE PROGRESS CRACK BAR.... Sounds like a snack.

For OCD freaks like me... I like it...

message 78: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Petra, you crack me up!! Ha ha ha ha....

message 79: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Ummm...yeah, it's totally addicting. You feel like the more you can update the better reader you are, right?!?!? Oh, and I saw someone close to my heart who managed in one night to update a book 10 pages apart (in one evening). Looks like an obsession if I ever saw one.

message 80: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I do love the progress bar but I stopped using it as it was stressing me out thinking I had to update it. Does anyone know if its possible to actually turn it off so it doesn't show at all?

message 81: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments It doesn't stress me out because I am not going to put the computer on jsut to update...but yesterday evening I was thinking...oh I didn't update my book yet and it will be night and and...:-)

I just update it when I go on the pc and as the room where that is, is sooo cold... so have only a few times I restart it during the day.
Keeps me a bit off it too....

message 82: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Jeane,

Good thought...make the computer room so uncomfortable you won't linger! And make the reading room nice and cozy...................

message 83: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) That wouldn't work for me - I have a laptop and work on it all the time. Also the weather's (always) lovely. So I need turn it off.

message 84: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments It does work Julianne. My boyfriend is using his laptop and I use his computer in the bedroom, where it is freezing cold. BUT, the fire place is on, so I read there and don't move anymore.
Just all move your computer to the most uncomfortable room to stay long!

Abigail (42stitches) | 360 comments LOL...this is too funny. I can't really bring myself to use the thing because my books are scattered and I don't want to keep them in a pile by my desk. I have 3 in my bag and one by the couch, one by my bed and another in the bathroom. And I am promising myself I won't bring them all into the living room just to update every day...Promise!
*chuckles*

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

Having a difficult time keeping up with the progress bar on the books. Think I'll pass, Oh who knows!

message 87: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I adore updating my progress bar but aren't obsessed with it anymore. But almost every time I go on Gr I update it when I think about it. It kinds of make me read more too.

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

I try too but I have two of the books I'm reading at work. I am reading too many books at once that is my big problem.
